Clinton News-Record, 1985-5-8, Page 29On May 17 and 18, Clinton will be
hosting its biggest party of the year -
Klompen Feest.
1985 marks the Fifth Annual Klompen
Feest celebration and the event promises
to be bigger and better than ever.
Klompen Feest is a family affair, for
people of all ages and national
backgrounds. If you like singing and dan-
cing, good food and conversation, you'll
enjoy Klompen Feest.
The celebration is Clinton's annual
salute to Canada and its Dutch heritage.
The celebration honors the many Dutch
immigrants who settled in this area more
than 25 years ago. The Feest boasts the
fine friendships that have developed and
the contributions of the Dutch people to
the betterment of our community.
The fifth annual celebration also
recognizes an important historical event,
perhaps the most important happening in
our lifetime - the end of World War II in
1945.
This year's Klompen Feest celebra-
tions pay special honor to the 40th an-
niversary and in particular, the Libera-
tion of Holland by Canadian soldiers.
That extraordinary time of courage,
determination and survival has been
highlighted in this year's Klompen Feest
souvenir booklet.
We had the opportunity to talk with
some wonderful people, Dutch im-
migrants who came to Canada seeking a
brighter future for their families.. Our
stories attempt to convey some of the in-
credible experiences these people lived
through, their feelings, their memories,
their hopes.
This booklet is also designed to give
you a preview glimpse of some of the ex-
citing events that will be held at Klompen
Feest. • Performances by local dance
groups, a giant Saturday afternoon
parade, craft booths, Dutch taste treats,
bands and singing groups, a chicken din-
ner, Dutch theatre production and danc-
ing are among the variety of events that
will be staged in Clinton over the two
days.
Thousands of people have discovered
Klompen Feest. The reputation of this
• unique festival has spread across
Canada and more than 10,000 visitors
from far and wide are expected to join in
the celebration.
Klompen Feest Chairman Bob Camp-
bell and his dedicated committee have.-
spent
avespent close to year preparing for this
year's festivities.
They extend a hearty welcome. to
everyone to meet in Clinton on May 17
and 18. Mr. Campbell notes, "Whether
you are a new Canadian or a native Cana-
dian, it makes no difference. Whatever
your religion, it makes no difference.
This is a festival with fellowship, fun and
enjoyment as its main objective."
"Klompen Feest is a celebration for
Canada a great place to
call home."
