N N'EWS-RECOYiD,WEDNESDAY, MAY 8,19 Candy Stripers �Ttk up work hours CLINTON - Twenty-two Candy Stripers were honored for the many hours of volunteer work they contribute to the Clinton Public Hospital during an awards ceremony on May 5 at the Ontario Street United Church. Sherry. B,ezzo, Teresa Bezzo and Brenda Hoy each received a 400 hour bars. Joy Taylor received a second red band for her cap and a 300 hour bar and Suzanne Walker and Donna Pickard also earned a 300 hour plus bar. Kim Cook and Carole Roorda each donated over 250 hours to hospital work and received a second red band. Miss Roorda also received a volunteer pin. Cindy Cook was awarded a volunteer pin for putting in more than 200 hours. A Hospital Auxiliary Association (H.A.A.) Certificate and one red band was awarded to Michele Verbeek for 150 plus hours. Christine Baker and Michelle Gautreau received a H.A.A certificate for over 100 hours. Receiving a cap and CPH certificate for volunteering fol more than 50 hours were Lynn Bezaire, Cleo Hubert, Shelley Hutchings, Lana Jones and Brenda Tideswell. Laura Roy put in 40 hours of work, Anne Tyndall, 42 hours, Andrea Smith 24 hours and Lynn Fleming 20 hours. Guest speaker for the ceremony was Clinton Public Hospital Administrator Dan Steyn. People Oren and Marg Williams, former Hensall residents, spent the past several weeks visiting with George and Judy Parker, family and friends, and will be returning to their home in Prince Edward Island this week. Queensway Nursing Home News The ladies from Arnold Circle of Carmel presbyterian Church joined the seniors for Bingo last Monday. We'd like to thank all the volunteers from Carmel Church for hosting the Bingo games for the month of April. ° Mary Parlmer won a victory in the Tues- day morning spelling bee. She correctly spelled more words than anyone else. Con- gratulations to Mary. Rev. Stan McDonald led the worship ser- vice on Tuesday afternoon. Assisting him were Dorothy Brintnell and Erlene Stewart with Vera Ross at the piano. The Christian' Reformed Singers were in singing Tuesday evening and the seniors' thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The Ceramic Club met on Wednesday morning. Lil Baker and Erlene Stewart were there to provide assistance. Seniors also played bingo with several Health Care aides from Conestoga College who are gaining practical experience from visiting our nursing home. They are a dedicated group of health care specialists and we enjoy having them around. The Baking Club created two culinary delights; chocolate -coffee cream bars and cherry macaroons. Queensway was a polling station on elec- tion Day. We were proud to be a part of the election process. The close proximity of the station made it possible for us to vote, if we chose to do so. Friday morning after our exercises we.. • listened to a few short stories and played Charades. Friday afternoon several ladies attended a tea-party. Althpugh we see each other every day, we dori't always take the time to get to know as many people as we could. An afternoon tea provided. us with the oppor-. tunity to get to know a few people at a time. The ladies' present were Vergie Williams, Elva Willert, Mary Gower, Ida Jackson and Grace Dinney. The Three links Senior Citizens from Hen - sal hosted a Euchre party at Queensway for the residents. Ladies high score was Florence Joynt; Men's high was Ray Fran- cis. Father Mooney from St. Boniface, Zurich was in Friday afternoon to hold Communion. Through Baptism Matthew James Martin, son of Dennis and Carol (Johnston) Martin was received into the church through baptism on, Sunday at the United Church. Betty Simmon greeted the congregation and ushers were Wayne Corbett, Wilmer Ferguson, Bill Fuss and ••• Hans Gerstenkorn. Mr. McDonald spoke on the 23rd Psalm, and the choir, with Belva Fuss as organist, sang. The flowers at the front of the church were placed in memory of Jean Smale by the family. The congregation were remind- ed that next Sunday was Christ Family Sun- day, Mothers Day and anyone wishing to place flowers in the church in memory of their parents should notify the church office this week. A number from this area attended the Spr- ing concert by the Choirs and Brass band of the Ontario Christian Music Assembly held in Exeter United Church on Saturday even- ing. John Van Til frorn London -Service at 10 AM. • The Busy Bees finished their year off with a 'nature hike through Benmiller Conservation Park. Nine girls and three , leaders had an enjoyable time and saw plenty of Trilliums and Violets along with several animal homes. Clot done with lunch just before the rain came. A teacher party was held at the Visser's home .on Monday night for all the clubs and Sunday School Teachers - many of whom come from Vanastra.
