Colt 35's wind up season on winning note
The Clinton Colt 35's Oldtimer Hockey
Team finished its most successful season
since its inception four years ago with a vic-
tory in the consolation game at the Lambeth
Blues Oldtimers Tournament played in Bel-
mont on April 13-14.
During the first game the Colts were tied
with Wasaga Beach with less than two
minutes left in thelarne. Disaster struck -
two quick goals y the Old Beach Boys and
an empty netter to finish 5-2. Incidently,
Wasaga Beach went on to win the division
championship -undefeated.
On Saturday afternoon the Colts came up
with one of the best efforts of the season to
shut out Embro, 4-0, before an enthusiastic
group of their supporters i their wives and
kids and friends 1.
()n Sunda v. at R aryl, it was 9-2 for the Colts
over the Tri -County entry from Mount
.•rydges and neighborhood- It was hoped the
high score might put the Colts in the cham-
pionship round but Wasaga Beach continued
-hot, defeating Embro to cinch first place in
the Group.
In the consolation final the Colts over-
came a 2-0 deficit against Thamesford to tie
at 2-2; a score which withstood overtime,
necessitating a shoot-out. Gary Black
shutout four Tharnesford shooters while
Dean Reid and Gerry Hiltz beat the goalie
who had been their stumbling block during
the game to give the Coltsthe victory 4-2 and
bronze medals for all.
The Colts finish the season with a record
of 18 wins, 16 losses, and three ties and a lot
of pleasure both on and off the ice.
Only 22 layers register for
CLINTON - Unless interest in minor Soo- one person has made a definite commitment
cer, by volunteers and participants in- with three otters saying they will help out.
The ideal situation is to have two coaches
per team so one poach will be present to
assist the team if the other is unable to: •
John Preston, minor soccer convenor,
said, "If we can't get the players, we will
have to definitely fold this year."
Minor soccer has operated without the
assistance of an executive for number'of
years due to a lack of interest and new
blood. Last year, Clinton had only three
creases, Clinton will not have a minor soc-
cer league this year. At the registration,
which was held Over two sessions, only 22
children signed up; 10 in the 7 to 8 year
category; six 10 to 12 -year-olds; and three
for each of the 11 to 12 -year-old category and
the 13 to 14 -year-old dii'ision. Approximate-
ly 15 players are need for each of the four
teams.
As far as Coaches for the season goes, o• nly

VARNA-Alive and well is only one way to
describe the exciting .sport of rnotorcross.
This fact was shown at the CRC Productions
and Huliy Gully's Motorcross Clinic held -on
April 13 at Hully Gully between Clinton and
Hensall: With brand representation from all
the major rnotorcross manufacturers. many
riders from as far as the .11S. border took
part in the clinic led by.1984 fifth place On-
tario Open Expert Chuck Collins. b,
Topics such as'mar'h'ine maintenance, set-
up and track riding were covered. t'traking,
In addition to the a'•ove tournament, the
Colts won the consolation trophy at Zurich
early in March and came close to success at
Kincardine the end of March, losing by one
goal to a London team who eventually won
the division championship.

players registered to play in the 11 to 12-
year-old'cateeorv. TAUS there was not a suffi-
cient number of coaches.
Playing or 'coaching will take up two
nights a week, between Monday and
Thursday, with this time including prac-
tices: Teams which the minor teams play

Kincardine and Wingham.
Another opportunity for players to.

cornering; jumps, and starts were explain-
ed, attempted by the students, and then
analyzed. An hour long track session follow-
ed, with great improvement shown by all
riders, most of whom will take part in the
May 4 House League Season Opener and the
Hullv Gully CMA SeasonOpener April 21.
