5'50 at Easter service
HOLMESVILLE - An impressive celebra-
tion of fellowship was held at the Goderich
Township Community Centre on April 7 ,
when more than 550 people crowded into the
hall to take part in the Easter Sunday Ser-
vice.
The 1-5-0 Easter Celebration was held as
part of the township's sesquicentennial.
Organizer Bob Elliott said he was simply
overwhelmed by the community response to
the service.
A half hour before the service began, the
hall was •filled with -people. More chairs
were brought in. People sat on the floor, in,
the aisles, in the nearby kitchen and foyer,
and still many more could not be accom-
modated.
"Seldom in one's lifetime does a person
experience such co-operation." Mr. Elliott
said. "I thank God for the privilege of allow-
ing me to have that experience."

Ross Middleton Roba Lobb and Mr. Elliott
gave a selection of readings, relevant to the
Easter story and message.
The Goderich-Township 1-5-0 Community
Choir made their debut performance at the
service. More than 50 voices strong, the
chair sang four Easter hymns. Soloist was
Pete Postill. The choir was led by choir
director Molly Cox' and accompanied by
pianist Cathy Lobb. The choir will perform
at least three more times this year at 1-5-0
events.
Leona McBride, Jeff Hearn_ and Jackie
Norman played trumpet fanfares and solo
selections. Special music was also perform-
ed by the Central Huron Secondary School
Brass Quintet, with members Jacqui
Draper, Steve Duizer, Ron Greidanus, Steve
Hearn and Miss Norman.
The readings and music were illustrated
by two visual slide shows, 'running
simultaneously with the service. The slides
pictured the life of Christ, and life in
Goderich Township, past and present.
The service both celebrated the life of
Christ and the founding of Goderich
Township. Mr. Middleton praised . the
pioneers who came to the area and "had a
vision for a better tomorrow." -
Mr. Elliott noted, `Easter is for all days of
the year. Jesus is as much a living presence
today as he was 1900 years ago."
Goderich Township Reeve Grant Stirling
also commended the people on their com-
munity spirit.
He added, "If this is any way' our celebra-
tions will continue, then we'll have a suc-
cessful
uc-cessful 1-5-0."
Outside the hall, Easter was recognized
by three crosses, placed on a hill, and a huge
rock, representing the Stone that was rblled
away from Jesus' tomb. The 10 foot- wide
rock was built by the Grade 4 class at
Holmesville Public School.

Fire budget objections
MITCHELL - A 15 per cent increase in the
Mitchell and District Fire Area budget for
1985 is burning a hole in the seats of two
members of Mitchell Town Council.
Despite the opposition of Reeve Jim
Spence nd Councillor. Pat Pickard, council
approved the fire area budget for 1985 of
$77,295. The new figure represents an in-
crease of $13,955 from the 1984 budget figure
of $69,340.
• "I think they should stroke the word
volunteer off," Councillor Pickard said of
the fireman's pay section of the budget.
"They're too high, those guys don't get pail,
$12 an hour. They don't need that for
volunteer work."
