Terry. and Todd Davies, Danny Brideau
and Frank Scbloendorf of Vanastra, and
Mike Seagren of Seaforth were the top win-
ners in the first-ever Air Band Contest held
in the area, sponsored by Central Huron
Secondary School. The group emerged vic-
tori0us after a hard -pitched battle with 14
other "air bands", and werc obviously the

cheers from the jam-packed crowd in the
•For the uninitiated, an "air band" is a
group who selects as a model a famous rock
band, then mimes ti1e sound and often-
o»$landish actions of the real band, using
fake or invisible instruments on the stage,
while the sound is supplied by a tape of the
authentic group, played in the background.
For their win, the boys chose to imitate
the hot band Twisted Sister, performing the
song "I Wanna Rock" during the competi-
tion, with "We're Not Gonna Take It" as an
encore. Mike performed as lead singer,
Terry was lead guitar, while Todd, Danny
and Frank "played" the drums, guitar and

bass, in that order.
Teri"y Davies, an uncommonly talented
young man, who is President of the CRSS
Students' Council, as well as the President
of the Vanastra Leos Club, reports that the
Leos will' be hosting an Easter Dance for 14-
18 year-olds, at the Glasgow bin, Vanastra
on Saturday, April 13. Music will be by Dee -
Jay Mike Seagren, and Terry hints that the
famous Air Band may again appear. Call
Terry or Todd at 482-7065 for more informa-
tion ... or to offer your help to the Leos for
this event.
Lions' clubhouse
Ten Vanastra Lions and their spouses
drove tq Guelph last weekend to attend the
Zone A15 Annual Meeting and election of of-
ficers and zone chairmen. The two-day
event was a gala affair, and thoroughly en-
joyed by everyone.
Len Davies, President of the Vanastra
Lions, reports that his club is currently
renovating part of the new D & D Glass
premises at Vanastra. Basically to be used
as the Lions' clubhouse. Mr. Davies says
that plans for it include a drop-in centre for
Senior Citizens, as well as a rental hall for
small area clubs.
Cindy Connolly, Chief Instructor at the
Vanastra Pool, extends a warm thank you to
the Lioness Club who last week donated
money for equipment for the Vanastra
Music for today's youth
CLINTON - The Reflections of Rockford,
Illinois will be appearing at Central Huron
Secondary School (CHSS) on April 5.
The group is a 30 person group of Chris-

and jobs.

Jonathan De Cou. Mr. De Cou studied music
at the Moody Bible Institute.in Chicago.
Barb Hodgins, will also be appearing the
same 'evening, inspiring the audience with
song.
There is no admission fee, and while the
musical is directed towards youth, it has a
message for all of us. All are welcome. The
music will begin at 7:30 p.m., April 5 at. the
Clinton high school. We need you to make it
a success.
More air band news
By Janet Tench
CLINTON - On March 29 Central Huron
Secondary School (CHSS) held an event new
to this area; an airband contest.
An airband is a group of teenagers who
want to be stars for a day. They think of a
rock band that they'd like to be and each
teen pretends to be a member. Then they get
on stage, dressed as their idols, to act out a
performance (with a tape. playing the song
of their namesakes.
Airbands face several problems. First of
all, each youth must represent a member of
the band in order to be credible. When Lita
Ford and Bryan Adams become brunettes,
while no less entertaining, it isn't enough.
Then there is the problem of pretending to
play the instruments. The drummers fared.
well, but the guitdrist generally made the
mistake of moving down their fingerboard
for the lower notes instead of up. FInally
when there were backing vocals in a song,
they were rarely accounted for on stage.
Despite the difficulties, students from
CHSS formed airbands. The most encourag-
ing band was made up of new Canadians,
who performed Bryan Adams' "Someone".
They had the crowd singing along; which,
despite their lack of a prize, made there the
biggestvictors of all.
The most exciting performance was given
by the boys doing Ratt's "Round and
Round". They took third prize. The most
delightful band was The Pointer Sisters,
who used the airband idea in its best form:

satire. Three gentlemen in drag, after teas-
ing the audience t the point that male fans
jumped the stage, shimmied away with se-
cond prize. Finally, the most lifelike band
portrayed Twisted Sisters, miming "I Wan-
na Rock". They, led by Terry Davies, took
first prize.:
These airbands brought to CHSS a night of
excitement and dreams. Students could
mingle with .these- "rock stars" and dream
of a day when they might meet the real ones.
Fifth year
for Feest
CLINTON - The Klompen Feest is a
special one this year since it marks the 5th
year for the annual event.
Bob Campbell, the chairman, has had a
rough winter, but he seems to be giving all
his efforts to keep things going for the event.
"We all wish Bob a complete recovery
and everyone is doing their best to make
Bob's job as easy as possible," notes com-
mittee member Joanne Carr.
Now for this year's activities. The first
event will occur Friday, April 19 when the
Klompen Feest Queen Contest will be held
at the Seaforth District Community Centre
during the dance sponsored by the
Huron/Perth New Canadian Club. The band
Black Forest from Kitchener will provide
the music. They have played for the street
dance at the Klompen Feest and were well-
received. Anyone who may be interested•in
becoming a contestant is asked to contact
Mary Divok at 482-7036. She will provide any
information and possibly some business
sponsors for contestants.
New signs will be made and/or repainted
and posted at the town entrances and in the
town. New flags will be made to give a new
"spruced -up" appearance this year.
The souvenir booklet will have some ma-
jor changes as well this year. Look for the
booklet two weeks before Klornpen Feest.
Applications are already coming in for
the concessions. If you are interested in ren-
ting a spot contact Jack Roorda.
Dr. Ken Wood has the parade plans well
underway, but if you wish to enter a float
just contact him for the details.
The students. at Central Huron Secondary
School have been asked to assist in the sell-
ing of the KLM draw tickets. The winner of
this draw will receive a trip for two to
Amsterdam. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.
Students will begin selling tickets today, so
if you wish to buy a chance to go . to
Amsterdam, just ask a high school student .
for details.
Since the students will be selling the ma-
jority of tickets, the Klompen Feest com-
" mittee decided to let the Student's Council
keep some of the money made. If they sell
most of the tickets they will have profits for
their own fund raising activity of new .
backstage -curtains. So the purchase of a
KLM tickets (or tickets! !) helps not only
the Klompen Feest, but it also will help the •
CHSS Student's Council fund raising pro-
ject. Student's Council will also be awarding
a cash prize to the seller of the winning
ticket. Please give them your support.
There is much, much more in the plann-
ing for the 5th Annual Klompen Feest. next
week on Tuesday (April 9) there will be
another Klompen Feest meeting to be held
at the New Town Hall Council Chambers at
8:00 p.m;. Anyone with any ideas or anyone .
willing to give their time to help make
Klompen Feest '85 a success is asked to at-
tend this meeting.
More regarding new contests, entertain-
ment, the chicken dinner, and other events
will follow the April 9 meeting. Look for the
next Klompen Feest News Bulletin at that
time! !•
