Effective today, loans approved under the Farm Credit Act with a five-year fixed term carry an interest rate of 131/2 per cent. This is up from the previous rate of 12% per cent which had been in effect since January 21. The interest rates have gone up in response to the rising cost of the funds the Corporation borrows to lend to farmers. The interest rate on Farm Credit Act loans with a ten-year term is now 133/4 per cent, up from the previous rate of 13 3/8 per cent. The rate on loans with a 20 -year term is 14 Per cent compared to the priorrate of 13 5/8 per cent. The Corporation also announced that the interest rate for FCC's new Shared Risk Mortgage loans will be 131/4 per cent when the program takes effect on April 1. With a Shared Risk Mortgage, the interest rate is adjusted annually, but the borrower and FCC share equally in any interest rate in- crease or decrease. Nifty Needlers hold sixth meeting LONDESBORO - The sixth meeting of the Londesboro' I 4-H Club, the Nifty Needlers, was held at Amy Gerrit's place on March 27. Debbie Gerrits was absent. The roll call was answered by telling if we are going to make another knit garment after this club and if so, what extras we'll add. The business concerning our fashion show and exhibit was discussed. We checked our books and handed out the cover pages then ribbing samples were checked and also the garments that were completed. Beginner sewers were shown ho to do a hem sample and for the more experienced, the piping sample. The material was read over, and we learned the parts of the sewing machine. Joyce Wilson demonstrated how we were to do our samples. The color of pale green was decided on as a background for our cover picture. Karen De Jong offered to write up the minutes for the meetings. The sixth meeting of the Sewing Sweeties was held at Eileen Townsend's home on March 26. Karen De Jong read the minutes of the last meeting. Books were checked for up-to-dateness. Roll call was to show a ribb- ing sample. The material for the meeting was read and Joyce Wilson looked over books and patterns. Completed books are to be in to the leaders by April 19. Achievement Day will be on May 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Huron Centennial Public School, Brucefield.-Press Reporter, Theresa Van Dorp. Personals Mabel Kyle was able to come home from hospital on April 1. We all wish her a speedy recovery after her knee operation, and may she soon be walking as good as new again. Luke Kinsman, son of Dwight and Faye Kinsman, is now home from St. Joseph's hospital in London. We wish him well. Kevin Dimond of Niagara Falls spent the weekend with Paul Hoggarth. Paul and Kevin are winding up their second year at Mohawk College in Hamilton. United Church News Pastor Don Moffat presided in the pulpit of St. Andrew's on March 31. Mary Moffatt accompanied the hymns on the organ. Com- munion was conducted by Pastor Moffat, who explained that the Lord's Supper in- volves four actions: Take, Bless, Break, and Give, which go back to Christ's action in the upper room. Pastor Moffat chose to have the communion served in the Presbyterian tradition, namely, the elders carried the bread and wine to the people in the pews. The pastor expressed the hope that the ser- vice would be truly meaningful and uplifting to all•participating.
