Learning on the job SARNIA - Tracey Erb of Bayfield, a stu- dent in Lambton College's two-year Marketing Program, recently began her paid co-op placement with the Com- puterland outlet in Sarnia as a sales trainee. She says she's getting to know more about computer trends and potential while giving demonstrations and serving customers. She adds, she's convinced computers will play a big part in Canada's future. Miss Erb, 19, a graduate of Central Huron High School in Clinton, was treasurer of the Student Council and took part in many fund raising assemblies. She is the daughter of Richard and Mary Farb of R.R. 3, Bayfield. While at college, Miss Erb took an early advantage of the co-op placement service and worked in the office as one of her co-op placements. She also worked at'the Bayfield Village Inn for the summer. The college has helped by showing her how to set limits and co-ordinate school and work as well as the experience of working under five or six peo- ple and learning the inside information on marketing. . In her spare time, Miss Erb enjoys aerobics, rollerskating, figure skating, bad- minton, and walking. The Happy Hookers have not had nearly as much, fun while working on .this crest as we did doing the large one which hangs in the Township Com- munity Centre. Due to the weather they have not had any hooking bees. The March meeting will be held at the home of Marlene Forbes on Thursday, March 7 at 2 p.m. The date is changed because- the 'P.E.P. Fashion Show is being held at the 'G.oderich Township Community Centre on March 6. There will be a quilt to work on so do not forget your thimble. It may havebeen a long time getting the first snow but it would be nice if the white stuff would quit coming down now. A trip to the sunny south would be nice as long as one did not get sick while away like Lorne Tyn- dall.' One would think our tiny community had enough troubles since December. Although they live in Clinton many still think of Jessie Jones, Lula, Merrill and Lorne as part of this community. Sure is nice to hear all of you are on the road to recovery. Our sympathy is extended to Joan Crawford and Linda 'Jones due to the deaths in their families; also to the Jervis family. Everyone will miss seeing Les tending to his anin'ia15 and birds. Bayfield MONTE CARLO NIGHT February 23, 1985 9-12 Bayfield Community Centre New marina rates set BAYFIELD - Members of the municipality of Bayfield met with members of the Docking Association on Feb. 16 to discuss the proposed rate increases for 1985 and 1986. Bayfield Clerk -treasurer Pat Graham said the representatives of the association were receptive to the rate increases, but were concerned about increases beyond the two years and into 1987. The municipality could not offer any ideas or guarantees on costs for the following years. The association also submitted a list of suggestions on work the village could carry out including paving of the parking lot, improving washroom facilities, planting a cedar hedge, planting trees and spraying the bank with weed killer. Clerk Graham said the village would look at the suggestions in light of the anticipated gross revenue from the marina. "We have to deduct costs and see what's left,” said the clerk. He ,4aid Bayfield may look at the capital facilities and then investigate grant programs, the Board of Industrial Leadership and Development (BILD) for example, for any expansions or capital expenditures, such as paving. The municipality was required to raise its rates following a meeting with Small Craft Harbours in Burlington. Councillor Jim Quick, acting as the municipality's representative reported that the government office was receptive to a plan to allow increases in two installments rather than in one lump sum for 1985. In 1985, a serviced slip will cost a boater $18.50 per foot and in 1986, the same slip will cost $20.00 per foot. Unserviced slips will cost $16.00 per foot for the season and rates for transient boats will be 50 cents a foot. Councillor Quick said Small Craft Harbours was "quite adamant" that the municipality be competitive with the private sector because of the excellent facilities provided. • Result of CNIB canvass Bayfield Lions News The Bayfield Lions canvass on behalf of the CNIB resulted in a final figure of $876.00. • Thank you to the Lions. It is reported that the response to the Lions request for used eye glasses has been good. If you have not yet dug out those old and obsolete spectacles, there's still time. Just drop them in at the Bayfield Hardware Store. They are a real help to less fortunate people in the underdeveloped countries. Again thanks to those who have contributed. Envelopes for the Easter Seal campaign are being distributed and no doubt, the Lions will receive community support for this very worthy project. Games of crokinole and euchre, lots of popcorn and films for children were part of the fun at the Valentine Box Social held in Holmesville on Feb. 15. Here Alison Culp tries her`.., hand at crokinole. The highlight of the evening was an auction of the boxed lunches to the gentlemen in the crowd. The party, sponsored by SS No. 6 was held in conjunction with Goderich Township's 1-5-0.
