Blyth Public School is participating in a French styled winter carnival this week. Herb
Shannon was chosen as Bon Homme for the event which will see school teams competing
in a variety of activities, from volleyball matches to snow sculpting, tobogganing to tug

Blyth ties in final game
Exeter and Blyth PeeWees played a fast,
entertaining hockey game on Saturday in
the final regular season meeting of the two
teams. The first two games resulted in 5 - 4
and 3 - 0 victories for Blyth.
The first period ended scoreless after
exciting end to end hockey featuring solid

goaltending by Mike Cronyn, good scoring
chances by Ricky Howson and fine penalty
killing by Troy Chambers and Jeff Nesbitt.
Midwaythrough the second period, Troy
Chambers scored on a close -in shot assisted
by Art Bos to give Blyth a short-lived 1 - 0
lead. Just 15 seconds later Exeter tiedthe
game and the period ended 1-1.
Art Bos scored at the two minute mark of
the third after hard working right winger
Shane Taylor kept the puck in the Exeter
end.. With less than two minutes rernaining,
Exeter tied the score with a powerplay goal.
The game ended with. Scott Cronin almost
scoring on a solo rush in spite of Blyth
playing short-handed.
Outstanding players for the locals were
Art Bos, Scott Cronin and Troy Chambers.
Blyth now has a season record of 8-2-2.

Blyth school classes hold assembl

The Grades 5 and 6 assembly was held on
Jan. 31 at the Blyth Public School with Tam-
my Bearss as mistress of ceremonies for the
program.
The Bible reading was read by David
Hessels. Karrlie Yanchus gave a reading on
Robbie Burns. Piano solos were played by
Karrlie Yanchus. David Hessels, Darryl
Elliott and Tammy Bearss.
The play by Grade 5 girls was The Great
Mitten Kaper, played by Laurie Wharton,
Tammy Medd, Rhonda Stadelmanli,
Tabatha Montgomery, Debbie Logue, Julie
Bromley, Angie Hash, Donna Lynn Arm-
strong, Dawn Gross, Lisa Bromley and Kar-
rli Yanchus.
The play Th Troll in the Park One day
was played by the Grade 6 pupils. They
were, Troy. Chambers, Ricky Howson, Kelly
Cook, Leah Richmond, Darryl Elliott,
Michael Pawitch, Kim Mathers and Tim
King.
Mr. Bill Marsh told the assembly about
the Winter Carnival; The Bon Homme was
present and chose the "Dues" and
"Duchesses" for the French styled, car-
nival.
School teams were set up for various com-
petitions. The teams and leaders are:
Cartier -Lisa Bailey and Craig - Snell;
Champlain - Angela Cotton and Mathew,
King; Frontenac - Annette Lucas and John
Nesbit; Laval - Margaret Cronyn and Scott
Cronin; Levis - Sandra Hessels and Jamie
MacDonald; `Montcalm - Kim Medd and
Jason Vanderheyden; Montmerency - Cathy
McDonald and Dean Whitfield.
Lost Heir
Six tables of Lost Heir. were played last
Wednesday evening with the Winners as
follows: High Lady: Edyth Snell; Low
Lady: Ruth Shields; High Man: Charlie
Smith; Low Man: Ray Madill.
Euchre
Ten tables of euchre were in play at the
Blyth Memorial. Hall on Monday night. The
winners were: High Lady: Mrs. Hoggart of
Londesboro; Low Lady: Marj McDougall of
Auburn; High Man: Mel Jacklin of
Brussels; Low Man: Ed Brook of Goderich;
Ladies Lone Hands: Nora Kelly; Men's

Ushers and Greeters at the Blyh
Church last Sunday were Harvey Snell,
Mary Walden; Bill Howson and David Spaa-4111
ing, Evalena Webster and,Tune Peck. Gaye
Poore was in charge of Junior' Congrega-
tion.
An almost full choir sang a favorite hymn,
Ninety and Nine. Margaret Kai has resum-
ed her music duties after a six week absence
because of illness.
Rev. Ken Bauman's sermon w_, about
Heaven which he doted can be erienced
on earth because it: means a constant
closeness to God — a relationship which
passes all understanding. .
On Monday last, beginning with, a Covered
Dish meal, there was a well attended Con-
gregational meeting which dealt with 1985
budget and accomplishments of '1984. To
deal with goals for the. spiritual life of the
church in 1985, the meeting resumed on Sun-
day afternoon for some, Monday night for
others. Both were well attended.
Bus may go to Toronto Flower Show
I
The Blyth0Swinging Seniors held their '
January meeting in the Memorial Hall on
Jan. 30.
After a Sing Song with Ruby Philp at the
piano, Vice President Harvey McDowell
conducted a business session. He announced
that the Flower Show in Toronto will be held
from April 17 to the 21 and that a bus will be
going if enough people are interested.. Those
who would like to go should contact Dorothy
Daer or Mildred Ament as soon as possible.
A fascinating program.followed with Ross
Merrill of Bayfield taking everyone by mans
of slides and Commentary on a trip through
the Yukon and North West Territories. He
crossed the McKenzie River, the Arctic Cir-
cle and the DEW line. .
Because of, the perma frost all buildings
are on supports. Trees grow no taller than 15
feet. He saw many things of great interest
including the former home of Pierre Burton
and Robert Service. Vera Hesselwood
thanked Mr. Merrill for his informative and
interesting presentation.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday,
February 28 at 2 p.m.
UCW fun night
The Evening Unit of Blyth UCW began the
1985 session with a Fun Night.
Members and their husbands gathered at
the church on January 30 for a social time
including an auction sale. Proceeds from
the auction went to UCW projects.
The next UCW meeting will be on' Feb. 27
with Doreen Ritchie speaking on her work in
group homes.
Church goals met in '84
A well attended annual Congregational
Meeting took place at Blyth United Church
on January 28.
The meeting began with a potluck sup-
per...then opened with singing, a medita-
tion, scripture and prayer.
Blyth United church responded to the Ven-
tures in Mission appeal of the United Church
of Canada and surpassed the goal set for the
church in donations and pledges.
All the committees and groups'have been
well attended and very active throughout
the year. Each report indicated a busy,
satisfying and well supported program.
Some of the highlights of the meeting in -
eluded the accomplishments of the Session
and Stewards along with all the congrega-
tion in installing and paying for a new
heating system in the church and remedy-
ing the water problem in the basement.
New hymn books were purchased for the
church and MI conjunction with other chur
ches in the ac ea, hymn 'books were bought
for Rammeloo Guest Home.
The United Church Women were involved
in many successful endeavors - among
them, the Harvest Bonanza, Garage Sale,
and catering services.
Two subsequent congregational meetings
-have been set for February 3 and 4 to deter-
mine the setting of goals and objectives for
'85.
Blyth Inn, Baintons win
In Blyth Industrial Hockey League action
on Feb. 3, Blyth Inn, Baintons and Mannings
all picked up victories.
In the first game, Steve Howson scored
three goals and added eight assists as Blyth
Inn ramped past Watsons 11-5. Dale Whit- -
field and Ron flunking also scored three
each and Gary Hakkers and Wayne
McDowell added singles for the Inn. Watson
scorers were Terry Pierce and Steve Nixon
each with two and Jeff Watson.
In the second game, Baintons scored six
second period goals and, downed Hubbards'
6-1. Steve Robinson and Barney Stewart
each scored twice for Baintons and Rob
