When most people think about recreation, sports such as hockey, baseball, tennis or badminton come to mind. But recreation is much more than that. The dictionary defines recreation as any form of play, amusement or relaxation intended to refresh the body or mind, especially after work. It also says that walking, gardening and reading are quiet forms off recreation. Clinton offers the quiet forms of recreation as well as the activities which require more exertion, providing something for residents of all ages and exercise preferences. For those who like competition, there are hockey leagues, shinny hockey, and badminton. The recreation committee, in conjunction with the Clinton Golden Radar Club, is also offering weekly afternoon euchre for those who like competition that doesn't involve too much physicalexertion. Those that like to combine music with exercise can take part in figure skating or an afternoon or evening Trim -A -Size program. Specal programs for children include youth gymnastics which gives both group and individual instruction on the balance beam, vault, floor, along with everyone's favorite, the trampoline. Due to the popular demand, the recreation committee offered an expanded power skating program this month which helps train and condition 'hockey players and figure skaters. For people who don't like to sweat during all of their recreation activities, the Clinton Recreation Committee also offers crafts. The first bread dough art course was so successful, it has been decided to offer the public Bread Dough Art II. It is hoped that calligraphy and cake decorating will be part of the upcoming adult craft programs. The children are not to be left out of the craft courses as workshops featuring painting, calligraphy and handicrafts hope to be offered in the near future. And of course, the Clinton Recreation Committee always offers special programs during school breaks, and the March break ( March 9 - 17) is no exception. A road hockey tournament, shinny hockey, public skating and film festivals are only a few of the highlights planned for the week. If none of these activities appeal to you, -don't forget about swimming or weight lifting at the Vanastra Recreation Centre.
