Bayfield Bugle
It was back to curling on Jan. 27 after a
week's absence due to tthe'weather.
Koene and Rigers played with three
players each. The Koene team took seven of
the eight ends. Final score - Koene 9, Rogers
�1. Vera Miller skipped the J. Brandon team
o victory over G. Riley 9-4.
A, Brandon was leading 7-0 over M. Fran-
cis, skipped by E. Turner. The Francis team
had a good come -back and defeated Bran-
don 9-8. The top three teams are: Francis
.138, Koene 120''0, Riley 106. Joe Koene was
the winner of our draw prize donated by the
Nip N' Tuck and the Curling Club.
Congratulations to the ladies who curled
in Seaforth Bonspiel on Jan. 23. The M.
Francis team was secor)d in the early
draw . Joan Calif won a door prize and M.
Mcllwain avas the lucky winner of a pound bf
bacon. In the late draw, A. Brandon and her
ladies won the consolation. Alice also won a
draw prize and a flower arrangement.
Helga Bell took home the bacon". All in all,
it was a very enjoyable day. Thank you

A former Bayfielder, Diane (Pugh) Gunter had the distinction of entertaining Queen
Elizabeth and Prince Philip 'during their fall tour to Canada. Mrs. Gunter ( seated right)
was Program Chairman for Toronto's Ward 7 for the Royal visit. She also organized the
walkabout in Riverdale Park. Mrs. Gunter was educated locally. She went to school in
Kay field, Huron Centennial School and Central Huron Secondary School. She is the sister

Hawks gro unded, Brewers win
In Bayfield Recreational League hockey
on January 15, the game against the
Brewers and the Night Hawks was
outstanding, as the • Brewers excelled
themselye; by vanquishing the Night
Iawks.
This ‘%,,s a great achievement for the
,ewers, and they showed the Hawks could
be beat')'1 by ;r score of 11-5.

from Bill Courtney.
Varna 6- Puckers 4
Scott Consitt .gave Varna a hat trick and
helped put thein un the winning side of a
contest against the Puckers. He scored a
lune goal, another assisted by Dale
Stephenson and a third on a pass from Dan
Taylor. 'Taylor scored a goal, assisted by
Consitt and l )ale Radcliffe. Radcliffe scored
on a pass frutn Ron Keys and Keys netted,
the puck with help from Bill Carnochan.
Brad Baggott scored three of the Puckers'
four goals. Assists went to Ed Fogarty and
Brian Van :1,iken, Fogarty and Mike Leitch,
ai.uf Fogarty. Fogarty also netted a goal on a
!las, frons Van rAaken.

Brewers 7 - Varna 5
On January 22 the Brewers continued
their winning play when they beat Varna, 7-
5.
Darryn Telford and Murray Connolly each
scored two goals to help the Brewers take
the win. Assisting D. Telford was Mike
Telford. Connolly was assisted by M.
Telford and Earl Flynn on one goal, and
went in alone for his second.
Bob Snell put the puck between the goal
posts on an assist from Connolly and Geoff
Merner. Merner then cane back to score on
a pass from Orno Adair.
Scoring for Varna were: Scott Consitt, •
from Dan Taylor and Dale Stephenson;
Lorne Taylor, from Stephenson and Wayne
Cantelon; D: Taylor, from Consitt and
Stephenson; Dale Radcliffe; D. Taylor,
from Charlie Broadfoot and Consitt.

Warriors 11- Puckers 4
The Bayfield Warriors lived up to their
name in play against the Puckers, winning
by 10-4.
Bob Orr helped bring the Warriors' the
win with four goals. He went in alone to slip
his first shot past the Puckers' goalie. Dave
Telford and Bob Rogers earned assists on
Orr's second goal, Jim Shropshall and B.
Rogers on the third and again Rogers and
Ken Merner on the fourth goal. Dave Telford
scored an unassisted goal, as did Andrew
Cooper and Chris Bedard. Larry Bunn
backed Cooper on his second goal of the
game.
Jim Shropshall also netted two goals, his
first on aupass from Bill Campbell and his
second goal, assisted by Bedard and Mark
Kirk.
For •the Puckers, Ed Fogarty put two
goals past the crease, assisted by Tom
Johnson and Dennis Merner on one and Rob
Graham on his second. Mike Leitch and
Johnson completed the Puckers' scoring
tally.
Warriors 4 - Blades 7
The Warriors' nett game saw the team
downed by Blades 7-4 in play an January 16.
Double goal scoring was the pattern set by
the Blades. Dave Stugeon went in twice to
score on the Warriors, and assisted Geoff
Corrie on one of his two goals. Carrle's
second goal was unassisted. Travis Poetill
also netted two. His first was assisted by
Brad Hohnes and Pete Postill and his
second by Rob Blake. Blake rounded off the
Blades' scoring attack with assists going to
Holmes and T. Postill.
Andrew Cooper led off the Warriors'
scoring, assisted by Rusty Brandon and Bob
Rogers. Rogers brought home the second
goal on a pass from Mark Kirk and Jim
Shropshall. Bill Campbell netted the third
goal, assisted by Wes Gotzzard and Kirk
gave the Warriors' their fourth and final
goal of the game.
Marilyn Haw was the January Recreation
Draw winner.
