accept our most sincere thanks for all you
have done for Bonnie, George and myself
during 1984. Most of all, I wish to thank your
Youth Education Chairman for making me
go to Ottawa. 'At the. time, it seemed that it
would be much easier if I stayed home, but
Mr. Harland would not hear of that. Now, all
I: can say is, I'm glad I didn't miss it. Thank
you very much.
"I hope Legion members read Bonnie's
account of the trip. It was featured in the
Newspaper, the Seaforth paper, and Focus.
The story has since appeared in the Legion
Magazine of the ceremony in Ontario. John
Barclay, Ottawa . Command, 'has sent pic-
tures from the magazine. He was our "ser-
vant" while we were there.
"The truly amazing part has been the
response Bonnie has received since return-
ing home. Strangers from all. over have
written to say that her story really touched
them. Just the fact that they took time to
write, sending letters with the hope that
"Bonnie" would t)et i' - addresses like

Joe Reid
Joe Reid, a well-known Scot, whose name
was synonymous with the Clinton Piano
Factory, died in London hospital on January
20.
A longtime associate with the piano
factory, in the late 1970s he joined brothers
Bob and Murray Draper in saving the
Sherlock -Manning Piano Factory from
closure. He worked at the Clinton plant as
the company accountant for more than 20
years.
In 1967 Heintzman bought controlling
interest in the business and in 1978 merged
and moved the operation to its Hanover
plant. Mr. Reid and the Draper brothers
purchased the Clinton plant and equipment
from Heintzman after the move. They
manufactured furniture and repaired pianos
under the name of Draper Brothers and
Reid Limited. When Heintzman went into
receivership in 1980, the three men, together
with Toronto businessman Norman
Hathaway, bought the Sherlock -Manning
name from the receiver.
The men revitalized the 110 -year-old
Clinton industry and continued to create the
quality pianos that the Sherlock -Manning
name was long associated with. A well
respected name in the Canadian piano
business, Sherlock -Manning pianos are
known for their high quality and exceptional
craftsmanship.
Quality, not quantity was the aim for
Draper Brothers and Reid. As Mr. Reid once
explained, "A piano requires precision that
only a human can achieve."
Late last fall, Draper Brothers and Reid
was sold to Toronto businessman Garth
Turpin. Both Bob and Murray Draper
continue to oversee operations and the
plant, but Mr. Reid's illness never allowed
him the opportunity to share his expertise
withihe new owner,
A memorial funeral service for Mr. Reid
was held in St. Andrew's Presbyterian
Church, Clinton on January 25, with Rev. W.
Barber officiating, Mr. Reid was a valued
member of the St. Andrew's congregation.
Mr. Reid is survived by two children,
Elizabeth and Ian.
