Wetland guide work okayed
By Stephanie Levesque
Huron County Council will work with
Ministry of Natural Resources' wetland
guidelines and "see what happens".
The county gave its support at the
January session, but planning director Dr.
Gary Davidson reassured council that it is
not giving "wholehearted" support to the
guidelines.
The wetland guidelines say offipinl plans
should protect significant ,we,ti ds as well
as having zoning bylaw which allow for
forestry, waterfowl production, open space
and fisheries management in the wetlands.
"I agree with what's in the guidelines, but
I also believe that'the farmer should be con-
sulted and we should also 'work with them,"
said Morris Township Reeve Bill Elston.
Reeve Elston said it would be to the
farmer's benefit to work with the ministry
and the county on the guidelines.
Dr. Davidson said he intends to work with
the landowners.
Howick Township Reeve Jack Stafford
mentioned a concern he has heard regar-
ding waterfowl sanctuaries. Reeve Stafford
has heard that crops neighboring a sanc-
tuary have been destroyed by waterfowl.
That fact has to be considered when working
with these guidelines, said. the Howick.
Reeve.

Fender
bender problem
to be corrected
CLINTON - Many drivers are familiar
with the stop s' n at the corner of Mary and
Issac Streets. The sign, on Isaac Street, has
met many a front fender.
Clinton Council proposes to remedy the
problem by moving the sign closer to the
curb.
The sign was originally placed closer to
the travelled portion of 'Isaac Street to in-
dicate that the small avenue was for one
way traffic only. Councillor Gord Gerrits
voiced his concern that if the sign was mov-
ed further back "people won't see it. It will
make the street more two-way size."
It was agreed to post two stop signs at
either side of street to remedy the problem.
School Car
looking for grant
Clinton's School on Wheels hopes to make
application for government funding under
the Building Rehabilitation Incentives Pro-
gram (BRIC) grants.
The grant is available to properties that
have been designated under Ontario
Heritage requirements. The School Car
plans to spend $4,000 on renovation work and
is eligible for a $2,000 refund through the
BRIC program.
In other heritage discussion, council was
informed that the Local Architectural Con-
servation' Advisory Committee (LACAC)
has a new chairman, Nancy .Fisher-Vossen
and a new member, Marilyn Tyndall.
More parking area
Concern about lack of parking area at the
corner of Huron and Albert Streets has led
the Clinton Business Improvement Area
(BIA) to make changes to the original land-
scaping work they completed a few years
ago.
Insufficient parking area led the BIA to
suggest that the planter box, adjacent to the
fire hall, be removed to make six more
parking places. They suggested that the
wood from the planter could be salvaged
and the trees be planted in Libary Park.
Council approved the idea, and also sug-
gested that the planter be relocated at the
west side of the fire hall parking lot. This,
council suggested, would prevent people
from using the fire hall lot for quick access
parking to the neighbouring pizza take-out
restaurant.
