Wreath at Christmas welcomes guests
A wreath at Christmas welcomes your
guests to your home. Why not purchase ad-
ditional evergreen bows and pine cones this
year to make a wreath.
The supplies required can be few but the
variations of wreaths are numerous. A basic
wreath will need a base or frame. Local
florist and craft shops carry wire frames in
various sizes. Grape vine and natural straw
wreaths are also available in a variety of
sizes.
Fine florist's wire, wired floral picks, hol-
ly or mistletoe leaves and berries and bows
are other supplies that you may need.
To make a basic wreath with evergreens
and pine cones, break the large evergreen
branch into smaller branches. These bran-
ches can be wired to the basic frame to
cover it completely. Wire the pine cones in
groups, then attach to the frame by in-
serting the wire through the evergreen and
around the frame.
To wire a pine' cone, wrap florist's tape
around the bottom of thecone, leaving
enough wire to wrap around the frame.
For added decoration, paint the tops of the
pine cones with silver or gold paint, then dip
in glitter.
A large bow can be added at the top or bot-
tom to finish your wreath.
To hang, simply make a loop with heavier
gauge florist's wire, or a coat hanger, and
attach securely at the top.

If I Were A Reindeer
I would be scared of the weather it would
be scary because my nose might stop glow-
ing. Mrs. Claus and Santa might sell me and
it would not be nice. It would be scary and it
would be very hard to eat with the cows and
sleep in hay. It would not be fun, but my
nose would go on. I don't have too worry.

If I were an elf I would shine Santa's boots
and keep his suit clean and red. Then I
would clean the reindeer's halters and shine
the sled. Next I would paint it.
Once it was Christmas Eve, I. would pack
up the toys for Santa. Then I would get the
eight reindeer: Their names are: Rudolph,
Prancer, Donner, Cupid, Blitzen, Comet,
Dancer, Vixen. I would saddle up the
reindeer, get Santa, and he would go.

Pine cone wreaths require a good supply
of cones of various sizes to cover the frame.
First wire the cones around the outside ring
of a wire frame, then towards the centre.
Use assorted shapes and sizes as you go.
Larger cones can be cut in two to resem-
ble flowers. Place wire clippers around the
middle of the cone and squeeze; you may
have to make three or four cuts. Wire the
bottom end of the cones and include these
with your regular cones. Add a bow and hol-
ly to finish your wreath.
If you are using a straw wreath, use
wooden wired floral picks to wire the bottom
of the cone and then push the picks into the
wreath.
Bows, tree ornaments, straw flowers,
baby's breath, spices (such as cinnamon
sticks, lavender or rosemary) can be wired
to picks then added to your wreath. A little
dab of glue on the bottom of your spices will
help hold them in place.
Make a wreath this Christmas. When you
decorate your tree, put aside a few decora-
tions for your wreath and have fun with the
family making an original wreath for your
home. It may become part of your
Christmas tradition.
Here's hoping you find
miles of smiles and
happy times this
Yulefide season.

Let me. -take you to the far off land of
Laughlot.
In Laughlot there are green, green
meadows and blue skies which only contain
a few big white fluffy clouds that float lazily
by. There are light sunfilled forests in which
gentle breezes blow that are wonderfully
sweet.
It is 'in one of these sunfilled forests that
the teddy bears live. These teddy bears are
a lot like the ones you might have at home.
There is one big difference. Instead of
painted on eyes, they have big green eyes
that dart around looking for mischief.
That's exactly what one off the teddy bears
in Laughlot was doing. Treetwerper, or
Twerp for short, was nestled in an old elm
looking down on his sister's head. As she
was bending down to pick a flower, a small
thud landed on her back. Moppily, for that
was her name, looked up angrily at her
brother Twerp.
Then it came, that high pitched giggle for
which the family, the "Giggles" were
named. The joyous noise erupted from his
mouth and bubbled and echoed throughout
the forest.
Of course, Moppily was quite angry for a
few days. But since it was only five days to
Christmas the anger soon wore off.
The teddy bears were expecting a
beautiful Christmas. When it came, it filled
the description perfectly. The Christmas
tree was covered in melted chocolate and
plastered in sugary gum drops. The angel at
the top of the tree was made from lemon
meruinge. The wings were made from
beaten eggs. The laughter that arose from
the Giggle matched there name merrily.
When the laughter had died down, the
presents unwrapped, and the candles blown
out, there were four happy teddy 6ears
dreaming happy dreams in bed.
So, if you're travelling and happen to
come to a sunfilled forest in which sweet
breezes blow, you know you've come to
Laughlot. If by chance a high pitched joyous
giggle reaches your ears, you know you've
come to where the giggles live.
Drop in and say hi, I'm sure they'd
welcome you!

Bah, humbug, 2020 style
When. I woke up on Christmas Day 2020, I
got out of bed and pressed the bed maker. I
stood in a daze as it malfunctioned again.
The stupid thing started spitting covers and
pillows all over the room. I' pressed the
turnoff button, and started picking them up.
Then 1 heard the intercom summoning me
to breakfast. I stood in front of the vacuum
that took me from my room to the kitchen.
As I arrived in the kitchen my breakfast
appeared on the table. Burnt again. Well,
I've lived through it before.
The tree associated with Christmas,
which should -have been in the living room,
wasn't there. The government had decided
that any kind of tree was a fire hazard. You
were fined $200 if found with any kind of
tree. Not the kind of Christmas I'd want to
remember.
Going back to my bedroom, I made my
bed manually and then sat down on it. I
started to remember how I had heard
Christmas celebrated • along time ago.
Christmas trees, big reunions and presents
were a thing of the past. The government
expected more money from all of us at the
end of the year. More than ever. I decided to
do something about it.
I went out to the nearest terminal and
pressed MALL. I walked out of the hall and
into the mall and into the nearest store. The
clerk thought I was strange filling my arms
with toys of all shapes and sizes. But she
could not say anything, for she was a
machine. Being a machine all I had to do
was put my computer card into the slot and
wait.
After I left the. store I stepped back to my
home. I started looking through directory,
phoning people, asking if they had children.
If they said "yes," I got their address and a
toy was on its way. The postal service got
the gift there before I hung up the receiver.
After sending out my gifts I crawled back
into bed. I thought of all the people that I had
just mystified. I thought darkness and then
was left alone in it..
