Christmas in the Year 2050
It was Christmas Eve 1984. I was lying in
my bed, very anxious for Christmas Day to
come. I must have fallen asleep, because the
next thing I knew I was in the year 2050, and
it was Christmas Day. All of my family were
downstairs. We were just about ready to
make breakfast, I was jumpy and excited,
but the rest of the family just looked very
solemn, as if they didn't care that it was
Christmas. Oh, well, I thought to myself.
They will probably snap out of it after
breakfast.
On Christmas we usually ate pancakes, as
we did today, but instead of mixing up the
batter in a bowl with a wooden spoon, and
then frying them up in the fry pan, Mom just
pressed a button and BLAMO!, instant
pancakes. Personally I think that making
pancakes that way doesn't make there quite
as nice. We didn't even use real maple
syrup. I was in a total state of shock. We've
always used real maple syrup on real
pancakes! The robot maid then came
around and collected •our dishes and put
• them in the dishwasher.
Next we went to our plastic tree in our
round living room. To:open the presents we
used a remote controlled present -opener. I
was really excited, but opening the present
with remote control took all of the fun out of
it. For lunch we went to Grandma's house.
I thought that finally Christmas would seem
like Christmas, because I thought that
Grandma and Grandpa wouldn't change
Christmas at all. Boy, was I wrong! Instead
of looking and acting as if they were having
fun, they acted as if they were...were bored
with Christmas! Can you believe it? Well I
didn't believe it. For dinner all we did was
add water to a bunch of stuff that looked like
cardboard. PRESTO!ainstant turkey dinner
with all the trimmings. This time my
patience was at its limit: All of a sudden I
blurted out "Okay you guys, I am sick and
tired of all of this 'bored with Christmas'
stuff ! Now, we are going to start smiling and
have some fun. Right? I said that very
loudly and definitely. My family told me
that it was against the law and that they
were going to turn me in. Imagine that! My
own family turning me in for yelling of all
things! They grabbed me so that they could
take me away. The police put me on a bed in
a cell. I started screaming "No! You can't
keep me in here!"
The next thing I knew I was in rpy own
bed, in my own room. You don't know how
happy I was to hear my mom wishing me a
Merry Christmas. She even made the
pancakes by hand. You know, I really
wonder if my dream was what Christmas in
the year 2050 will be like? I hope not!

Christmas in the Future
Christmas in the Future
Christmas has always been celebrated
with extra work put into everything. There
are the trees that are brought into
everyone's home. Whether they are
artificial or real doesn't affect anyone's
feelings. The trees are always brightly
decorated with homemade decorations such
as bows or string or paper loops. Although
homemade decorations mean more, the tree
is sometimes decorated with bright shiny

blue, red, white, gold and silver tinsel with
shiny ornaments. Lights are put up around
windows and on the trees, instead of candles
like in our great grandparent's days.
Soft red stockings are hung instead of old
socks as in the recent past. Christmas was
remembered back then as the time of
Jesus's birth, of Jesus being born in a stable
in Bethlehem and of the Three Wise Men
bringing Jesus gold, frankincense and
myrrh. Now at the mention•of Christmas,
people think more of the giving and of Santa
Claus coming than of the birth of Jesus.
In the future everyone will be decorating
their trees completely with bought
decorations, if they have. one. Many people
may have little ceramic trees instead.
Barely any young people will go to church of
their own free will, to hear the real meaning
of Christmas. In the future the giving and
receiving will be much more frequently
talked about than Jesus. Only few young
people will say their prayers Christmas. Eve
because few parents will take this part
seriously.
Santa will probably be receiving letters
from robots that can print,' write, draw, talk
and paint and dolls that can jump, walk,
run, hop and that are no bigger than 13
inches. Older kids will probably want
computers that can play all sizes of tapes,
records, discs and that have AM and FM
radio. Teenagers will probably listen to high
electronic sounds and will be deaf by the age
of 30.
Christmas's true meaning is the birthof
baby Jesus and although in the future most
of our Christmas carols sing more of Santa
we must remember that carols like Away In
A Manger and 0 Little Town of Bethlehem
have important meanings too.

Future Christmases .
In the future Christmas will be much
different. Ten years from now it will be ,
different but not as different as 100 years
from now. Christmas never MA,' t'hiicb
except for the part about Santa Claus.
Twenty years ago nobody had even thought
about a reindeer with a shiny nose.Maybe in
20 years they may have Santa Jr. Nobody
knows. Saint Nicholas was a real person, a
nice one. Santa Claus is just a copy only
jollier and. happier. In 500 years there may
be another nice person like Saint Nicholas
but that's doubtful because if someone went
around giving away everything they would
probably put him in a mental home. If there
ever was he or she would never be as famous
as Saint Nicholas.. ,He or she might have
rockets and robots for elves, space stations.
instead of the north pole, plastic trees
because all the real ones died. Five hundred
years after that he or she might be called
"Joe" and have miniature jets pulling his or
her sled or spacemobile. If there was a
nuclear war and a few races 'survived there
would never be another Saint Nicholas
because nobody would trust anybody else.
That would be about 10,000 years away. It is
doubtful that anyone would survive. Nobody
can ever know what Christmas will be like in
the future. It could be. the same or'
completely different. The only way to find
out is to wait....
