If I were an elf I'd work and work and
worry. I'd hitch up the Reindeer. WOW, I'm
poofed! It is cold so I'd get a blanket for San-

If I Were An Elf
Ifj., were an elf
I would help Santa Claus.
I would be good,
Forif 1 were bad,
It would be terrible.
I'd get the reindeer ready.
Their names are Comet, Cupid, Donner,
Vixen, Dancer, Blitzen, Prancer and
Rudolph.
I'd brush their fur.
I'd help Santa get his boots and suit on.
Mrs. Claus would make some hot chocolate
before we went.

If I Were An Elf
One night I was helping Santa Claus and I
went outside and there was a storm. I told
Santa that he was going to have a hard time
getting to the children and he said, "The
children are not going to get their toys."
I hope Rudolph can get to the village in
time. I hope Donner can too. I hope the elves
have put the toys in the sleigh.
Have a Merry Christmas!

If I Were An Elf
If I were an elf I would be up at the North
Pole. It would be very cold. And all year
round I would be making toys. My name
would be Goodniff and Mrs. Claus would call
me Goodie. I would be chief of all elves.
This year there are probably lots and lots
of toys. There would be bears, dolls, cars,
trains, ball, candy and stuffed animals.
Well better get to work oh rats! I got
a hang nail. Ooops, I knocked over a pail of
paint and it spilt all over Santa.
"Um, sor-sor-sorry Santa!"
"Oh, it's O.K. Goodniff. You better get the
sleigh ready."
"O.K." Phew, this is heavy. Ah, there,
O.K.
"Come on Santa!"
"O.K. Bye-bye."

If Santa said to me to write all of the -
reindeer's names, I would do it because I
wouldn't want to be fired.
Mrs. Claus was too busy doing Santa's
clothes for Christmas so I had to do it.
1 would make the toys like dolls and
ducks, trucks and cars too.

If I were an elf I would be worried so I
would take Santa's suit and clean it because
it gets dirty with snow.
I would wash it clean, as clean as it has
ever been before.

said Santa Claus.

If I were an elf I would have to work of
course, and be careful of what I was doing. I
would have to go with Santa on his ride for
the night. It''s fun, but we have to stop every
minute. I'get a headache because every
time he goes down the chimney he burns his
hand on the chimney.
It wasn't very much fun after all, because -
we both had a headache.

The Clinton Cubs held their Christmas party last week, complete with entertainment
from many of the Cubs. They sang, played instruments and acted out a number of
Christmas scenes. Here two elves watch the action on stage. ( Shelley McPhee photo)
The best Chri.strnas tree
The week before Christrrias was very busy
in the forest.. Ali. the families were out
getting their trees for Christmas. But out of
all the trees there was one little tree; he
wasn't very tall and he had thick branches.
He was very sad because of all the
families who came to the forest, they never
once even looked at him. But there were
always the animals who liked( to play around
him: There were many birds who lived in his
branches and under him lived a family of
rabbits. It did make him happy to have all
the little animals play around him.
All the time, he wished he could be made
up really beautifulwith lights, angel hair
and a big star on the top. Everytime he
thought of this he would start crying.
One day through the forest .were a couple
of Santa's elves. They were out to find the
best tree in 'the whole forest. When they
walked up to the tree, they stopped and
stared atwt. Then they both turned, around
and ran Wel to Santa.
WItt ii Ltuey got back they were huffing and
puffing and both of them were talking at the
saline time.
When Santa got the story. straight, they
got the box of decorations and headed down
to the little forest.
When the tree saw Them he looked
surprised. But he was even more shocked
when they 'were putting lights, angel hair
and other ornaments on him. Then, finally,
they put the big star on top of the tiny tree. It
was as if the tree was julst dreaming again;
That night there was a big party in the
forest. There were the elves, reindeer,
Frosty and Crystle, and of course, Mr. and
Mrs. Claus. All around the tree they joined
hands and sang Christmas carols.
The little tree knew that he was one of the
best trees 'in the forest. He was the home of
lots of animals, and also their friends.
Every Christmas after that, there would
be a big party with Santa's helpers to make
him•remember his best Christmas ever.

Almost everyone likes to skate in the winter,
but most people don't like getting cold. One way
to solve this problem is to have a skating rink
very close to your house. Have you ever thought
of making a rink? It's not difficult to understand
how to make one, and it isn't hard to do, hut it
does take time, The process speeds up if friends,
help you out,.
To make a skating rink you need about three
cold days in a row; the first two weeks in Jan-
uary are usually pretty good for rink •making.
Homemade skating rinks are very dependent on
.the weather — if it gets warm, watch out!
To start a skating rink the first thing you have
to do is tromp down the snow in your backyard.
This is where friends can help out, If a bunch of
you get together it doesn't take very long to wialk
MOstomp on the snow until it's packed solid.
Orrice this is done and you have a pretty level and
firm surface, find your garden hose and spray the
area lightly with water.
Before the water freezes, tromp around again
and flatten as many bumps as you can. If it's a
really cold day the water will freeze by the time
you've: finished smoothing everything out. if it
has, spray the area lightly again: if not, wait
overnight and spray the next morning. Don't for-
get to take the hose inside or it will freeze.
After two or three light sprays you should have
a nice solid base for heavy flooding. After three
or four floodings, your rink will be perfectly
smooth and ready to. skate on. If the ice gets
bumpy, get out the hose again and water your
rink. Have fun! -
