R$..Iiab Anderson opened the meeting with aprarticle about Bishop Tu Tu, winner of the Noble Peace Prize. The officers for 1985 were appointed. They are: leaders, Sara Anderson, secretary, Mrs. Ross Higgins; treasurer - Mrs. Lawrence Taylor; program convenor, Janisa Coultes; social, Olive Bolt, sick and shut-in, Olive Campbell. The Worship service was conducted by Janisa Coultes, Mrs. Bolt gave some Christmas poems and praise. The roll call for the January meeting, is to bring an article on Korea, the subject of the study. Euchre Winners Nine tables of euchre were in play in the W.I. Hall on Dec. 11. Winners were: high lady, Mrs.' Clarence Hanna; novelty lady, Mrs. John King; low lady, Olive Bolt; high man, Clarence Hanna; novelty man, Wilfred Walker; low man, Edgar Wightman. The next euchre will be held Jan. 9 starting at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. White Gift Service The Sunday School observed their annual White gift Service at Knox United Church, Belgrave. Sunday School superintendent Bill Coultes conducted the service and was assisted by Sunday School members. Welcoming the congregation at the door were Corey McKee and Patrick Cull while Katherine Procter and Paul Coultes ushered and handed out programs. Scripture lessons were read by Jennifer Procter and Sharon Kellar. The regular offering was received by Chris Michie, Robert Gordon, Allison Coultes and Heather Morton. Dean Vincent and David McKee collected the White Gift offering in wicker baskets. This money will be used to support a foster child in the Philippines for another year. An important part of the service was the dedication by Rev. John G. Roberts of a projector bought for the use of the Sunday School and church with money from the Memorial Fund of the church. A screen was the gift of Catherine MacDonald in memory of her parents, Mc. and Mrs. Norman Keating former members and Londesboro young people to go carolling By Dora Shobbrook LONDESBORO - On the third Advent Sun- day Rev. Dave Snihur and Harry Snell welcomed everyone to the church. The ushers were Fred Peel, Brent Radford and Dennis and Gerben Wilts. The third Advent candle (the candle of the three wisemen) was lit by Mr. andMrs. Neil Salverda and family. For the announcements, Rev. Snihur reminded all of the Candlelight Christmas Eve Service at 8 p.m. The Young People's Group will be carolling on Dec. 20. On Dec. 21 at 7:15 p.m., a choir practice will be held. The Explorer sleigh ride will be held on the evening of Dec. 21. And finally, Sunday School will not be held for the next two Sundays. Children's time featured the conclusion of "Muffle come home." The lesson was "You Hers hoping Saint Nick brings you and your loved ones much good luck and happiness this Christmas BLYTH PRINTING INC. Doug, Lorna, Ken and Jane Whitmore Blyth, can always trust God." The junior teachers were Jane Hoggart and Bernice Norman. A Bible was presented to Kevin Shillinglaw upon graduation from the junior congrega- tion. The men's choir sang a Christmas an- them. Lisa Duizer was the organist and Marsha Szusz, the choir director. The sermon was "Gifts fit for a King." After the service a full house shared in congregational pot luck lunch, followed by a program. r. A sing song was led by Harry Lear with Gail at the piano. The games for the children were conducted by Dave and Caron Snihur. "Pass the potato" was won by Billy Jim Scott and Michael Salverda. A relay race passing toilet paper was also held and then Santa came with bags of goodies for the children. The afternoon ended singing "We wish you a Merry Christmas." Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns on the birth of a new eight pound, three ounce grandson born Dec. 14 to Pat and Ed Pitken at Victoria General Hospital in Victoria, B.C. He is a brother for David. Beth Knox returned home on Dec. 13 from having eye surgery on Dec. 12 at St. Joseph's Hospitla in London. Tom Allen was admitted to Clinton Hospital Dec. 14. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs.: John Pollard on the weekend was her sister, Mrs. Agnes Rhoads of Stratford. Barbara Paterson and Katie of London visited on Dec. 16 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns. Note: Garbage collection will take place on Dec. 27 instead of Boxing Day. Turn to page 11 leaders in Knox United Church. The Junior Choir sang an anthem• Elizabeth Procter, organist and Mrs. Freda Johnston, pianist supplied Christmas music for the service. Rev. John Roberts spoke to the children of the origin of .giving White Gifts and reminded all of Jesus words, "Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these ye have done it unto me". After the service, a lunch was served in the church' schoolroom. Christmas Service The regular meeting of the Evening Unit was held Dec. 4 at the home of Mrs. Ross Anderson. A Christmas worship service and program was led by Mrs. Murray Vincent. Christmas story "Memories of a Country Christmas" was read by Mrs. Norman Cook. Mrs. Cliff Logan read a poem "Priceless gift of Christmas." 'l'he story "And For As Long As 1 Can Remember" was read by Mrs. Les Vincent. Mrs. George Michie conducted the business. Members decided to renew the subscription for the magazine for the hospital for anothertwo years. The following officers for 1985 were elected: leader, Mrs. George Michie; associate leader, 'Mrs. Robert Grasby; secretary, Mrs. John McIntosh; associate secretary, Mrs. Les Shaw; treasurer, Mrs. Albert Cook; social convenors, Annie Cook, Mrs. Lorne Campbell; community friendship, Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse, Mrs. Agnes Bieman; pianist, Mrs. George Johnston; group leaders, Mrs. George Johnston, Mrs. Laura Johnston, Mrs. Les Shaw, Mrs. George Procter, Mrs. Harold Vincent, Mrs. Jim Hunter. The next meeting will be held Jan. 3 at the home of Mrs. Dorothy Logan. People You Know Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Robinson in the loss of her father, Bill Rintoul who died at St. Joseph's Hospital on Dec. 10. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna held Christmas for their family on December 16 with 34 present. Those attending were from Kitchener, Goderich, Blyth, Londesboro and Belgrave. Institute members and their . guests enjoyed a,dinner at the Wingham Golf Club pn Dec. 10. Following the dinner, Ross Procter showed slides on his trip to France. He also showed slides of the presentation of Doris Bushell's quilt to Queen Elizabeth at Amherst View near Kingston. Convenors of the meeting were Mrs. Clarence Hanna and Mrs. Stanley Black.
