• 'Mr. Wm. Beatty, of Kirkton, was
in town on. Tuesday, in connection
with the Blanshard fall fair held at
Kirkton from year to- year. Mr.
Beatty has been Secretary treasurer
of the society for the past 33 'years
and has filled the position to the ut-
most satisfaction of all concerned.` He
bids fair for many pears of a useful
life yet.
Word was received here on Satur-
day of the death of Mrs. Bonthron,: .of
Toronto. Deceased was the wife of
Mr. Tames Bonthron, commercial
traveller, and for some years a condue-
toe on a Grand Trunk parlor car be -f
tween Toronto. and Detroit. Mrs.Bon
tbron was a sister-in-law Of Mrs. Col-
lins and Miss Bonthron, the latter be-
ing with the deceased for the past few
Weeks. Interment took place in Lon-
don on ,Monday.
Mrs. Saxon Fitton • received the sad
intelligence on Friday Iasi of the
death from typhoid fever, of her
brother, who lived in Chicago. The
deceased had been i11 only a very short
time, and the mews of his demise came
as a great shock to his sorrowing sis-
ter. This makes the second death in
the family within five .months. Mrs.
Fitton has the sympathy of `a large
number of friends.
On Wednesday evening of last week
at the residence of Rev. 11, Mackenzie,
355 Dundas street, London, Edward
Taylor, of 348 Waterloo street and Re-
gina Davis, of Exeter, were quietly
married. The ceremony was perform-
ed by Pastor H. Mackenzie, of the
Christian Walters'
church. Miss Oar-
rie Davis,. of Exeter, sister of the bride,
acted as bridesmaid, and Mr. • John
tom iieson, of London, supported the

the residence of One of the bride's sis-
ters, where a number of relatives and

teaching school for a short time at
Calgary has received an appointment
in the. Yukon at a. greater increase in
salary. He left for the Klondyke
last week.
LIGHTNING PRANKS. -During the
severe storm on Wednesday of last
Week about 5 o'clock :lightning struck
the barn on the 6th con., Stephen,
about one and one quarter miles south
of Crediton, belonging to Patrick
Meagan. The electric fluid ran along
the top of the hay -fork rod and
immediately the building ` was ablaze.
The cattle and horses were all saved.
Mr, Flanagan had sold his wheat
when threshed but there was in then
building about 2000 bushels of oats
which were destroyed as well as two
large straw stacks, The loss is partly
covered by insurance.
