Students learn to assist residents of varying ages to meet their basic emotional, social and physical needs. Admission Requirements: - Academic Upgrading Level III Certifi- cate or equivalent, or grade ten from an Ontario Secondary School or mature student status. - currently employed and employed for a minimum of one year as an aide dealing with resident care in a geriatric setting or a long-term care institution, such as a nursing home, home for the aged, chronic and/or convalescent home. - submission of completed Conestoga College health certificates, signed by a doctor, indicating good health. - the required immunization to work in a health setting as specified by Conestoga College. The Program consists of the following four courses: - Introduction To Long -Term Care • - Activation And Communication - Activities Of Daily Living - Specific Conditions In Long -Term Illness • The student will receive 120 hours of classroom instruction as well as 120 hours of clinical experience in the pro- gram. CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (C.P.R.) Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (C.P,R.) N This is the Ontario Heart Foundation course in Basic Cardiac. Life Support. Successful students will receive a cer- tificate from the Ontario HeartFounda- tion. Applicants are required to complete a brief medical questionnaire indicating medical condition. Applicants who do not meet the medical conditions re- quired for this course will not be admit- ted. Note: Persons wishing to enroll in the Basic C.P.R. course, should apply "in person" in order that they mayfill out a questionnaire and pick up the required texts. Offered at: Cambridge, Clinton, Goderich, Strafford INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING PROGRAM - LEVEL 1 C The Program airris to help fill the continual need for qualified personnel to perform specialized functions in the fields of work measurement,' methods analysis, plant layout, material handling, and cost estimating. The courses in the Program provide the student with many of the tools and techniques which have proven effective in the analysis, improvement and control of work. The student also receives grounding in the knowledge of manufac- turing processes, industrial organiza- tion. Upon successful completion of the eight course Program, the student will receive a Conestoga College Certifi- cate. Admission requirements: - Mathematics Pretest. - completion of Industrial Engineering - Level 1 Questionnaire. Applicants who do not meet the admis- sion requirements, may schedule an interview with the co-ordinator to dis- cuss possible upgrading for program admission. Motion and Time Study is 60 'hours in duration, the other courses are 30 hours in duration. It is recommended that students take Basic Blueprint Reading - Mechanieal and Manufacturing Processes to pre- pare themselves for the other six courses. The courses that make up the Program are as follows: Basic Blueprint Reading - Mechanical R This course is an introduction to blue- print reading. Students will be able to apply the principles of orthographic projection and read and interpret tech- nical drawings. Offered at: Guelph Mon. 7-10 p.m. 10 wks. Jan. 14 $30 Dimensional Metrology R Dimensional aspects of quality control will be studied in this course. Topics will include a study of precision mea- suring instruments relating to the mea- surement of surface finish, flatness, parallelism, straightness, squareness, roundness, threads, tapers and hard- ness testing. Manufacturing Processes R This course covers the processes used in manufacturing industries involving foundry methods, sheet metal forming, protective coating and surface finishes, forging, machining and welding meth- ods, rubber products processing, and wood, leather and plastics processing. The student will learn to appreciate the role of manufacturing tooling in manufactur- ing processes with regards to safety, accuracy, production costs and pro- ductivity.
