(James Friel photo) District and zone leaders meet at Clinton Legion By Al Welch CLINTON - District and zone leadership chairmen wilt be at the Branch Leadership Seminar to be held at Legion Branch 140, Clinton, on November 22. All interested ' Legion members, auxiliary members and associate members are welcome to attend. The seminar begins at 8:30 p.m. Veterans Affairs Canada area counsellor, Comrade Bruce Gibbs, DVA . Box 5337, London, will be present at the Clinton Legion on November 22 from 10 a.m. tot p.m. The next general meeting will be held on November 26 at 8:30 a.m., Sports Results Twelve tables were played at men's euchre on November 13. The winners were: high score, F. Jackson, 85; lone hands, Markham and Murray with five each; low score, Van Egmond with 54. Mixed darts were played on November 15 with Doris Chambers and John Greidanus winning high couple. High score for the men went to .Brian Atkinson with 120 and Shirley Wood took .the high ladies' score with 140. Low couple were Brenda MacDonald and Don Hanley. Ladies' district cribbage was held on November 17 at Preston Branch. The Clinton ladies came in fourth and advanced to the provincal finals to be played in Aurora in June of next year. Team members are Blanche Deeves, Francyna Cormier, Hilda Semple and Betty MacDonald. Congratulations ladies for a job well done. The Branch 140 bowling tournament was held on November 18 at the Clinton Bowlirtg Lanes. Competitors bowled for the. Jim Armstrong Trophy and picked teams for the zone competition starting in Goderich on January 19. Winner of the Jim Armstrong Trophy was Don McWhinney with 1,466. Other winners were: first high single, Bill Van Damme, 278; second high single, Paul Cormier, 276; first regular, Bill Strong, 1,065; first associate, Bob Atkinson, 1,258; first lady, Rosemary Armstrong, 877. From five game totals, members of "A" team were picked. They are Howie Grealis, 1,111; Gary Black, 1,125; Robbie Fox, 1,148; Bob Atkinson, 1,258; Brian•Reeve,1,114; and Art Burt, 1,194. Members of "B" team include Ron Armstrong, 955; Bill Van Demme, '1,052; Harold Black, 969, Paul Cormier, 1,015; Bill Harris, 940, and Al Welch, 988. Members of "C" team are Stan Smith, 867; Fred Jackson, 879; Harold McPherson, 869; Pat McMahon, 787; Steve Maguire, 831; Brian Atkinson, 819; and Don Armstrong, 892. ' These teams will advance to the Goderich zone competition in January. HENDRICK-LEVY Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Kendrick of RR 3 Kippen are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter Karen to Dr. Paul Levy, son of Dr. Francis and the later Dr. Dan Levy of Hamilton. The wedding took place at the Four Seasons Hotel, Toronto on Oct. 14. The newylweds are now residing in Toronto. President Alison Lobb opened the meeting. Faye Oakes, secretary, read the minutes of the October meeting which was held at the home of Norene Tebbutt.' Treasurer Marlene Forbes gave her report. Roll call was answered with "A product which you have in your home from another country". The members voted to give $25 to the Family and Children's Services to help make Christmas happier for those who need assistance. The December meeting will be held on December 12 at the home of Grace Forbes. There will be a gift exchange which should be a $3.00 value. Bring a gift for your own child. A pot luck dinner will be held on December 9 at the Goderich•Township Com- munity Centre at 1 p.in. Bring food, dishes and cutlery. A presentationfor two newlyw- ed couples will follow dinner. E rAY, NOVEMBER 21, 190Page 0 E n :Cowan fea featured guest, at United Church n By Bertha MacGregor HENBALL - Hensall United Church was filed on Sunday morning for the annual anniyer'$.ary service, Leslie Bailey greeted the congregation and Donald Wareing, Jeff Corbett, Steven Corbett and Cepa Pepper were.the fishers. The guest minister for the day was George Cowan of Chatham, a former principal of the Hensall School, as well as teacher of the Continuation School. Mr. Cowan was also a former member of the choir, on the committee of Stewards of the Church. Following his retirement as School Superintendent in the Chatham area he gave himself to full time service in the church. An outstanding speaker he brought a moving message to the congregation entitled "The Choice Is Up To You". Mr. Cowan also took the children's' time and told a story using potatoes, of how people need to grow in love and how love, to be a healthy love, has to be given as well as received. Rev. Stan McDonald conducted the service with el a Fuss as organist. Music was led'' by he eaforth Harmony Kings. The congrega ' as inspired and thrilled with the message thro gh-song. Flowers on the memorial stand were placed in memory of Mrs. Fanged by their children John and Grace Gilbert and David and Ellen Fangrad. Following the service a time of fellowship was held in the fellowship hall with the UCW as hostess. +++ Rev. McDonald attended the Western Ontario Provincial Assembly meeting of the Canadian Foresters held in the Explorer Inn at Jarvis on , Friday and Saturday of this past week. Seniors meet The November meeting of the Three Links Seniors was held Nov. 13 with President Hilda Payne presiding and Myrtle Sherrit at the piano. An invitation was received from the Queensway Nursing Home to join them for an afternoon of games and music on Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. A donation was made to the Town and Country Homemakers towards helping with their work. Following the meeting Hilda and Carl Paype showed pictures of her trip. to l ngiaind and Scotland this past summer. Afterwards euchre was played. News and notes Hensall and Community Horticultural Society will meet Monday, November 26 at 8 p.m. at Bensall Public School- Guest speaker will be Thea Wisch and she will have a Christmas d monstration. The 1985 membership fees are due at this meeting ($2.00). Everyone who attends received, a fall bulb, admission is 50 cents. Everyone is welcome. Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted worship in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday speaking on "Thanks -Giving". Dorothy Taylor was assisted at the organ by Carolyn Love and the 'choir. Christmas Open House Christmas Open House was held in Hensall at The Spinning Wheel, The Birch Tree and The Flower Basket on S nday afternoon. Tove Bell operates The Spinning Wheel which recently opened and was assisted by Eudora Caldwell. The Birch Tree, owned by Sheila Raeburn, has Christmas gifts for the whole family with a wide variety of choice. Sheila wa: assisted by her husband Robert on Sunday .Pauline Miller, Zurich was the winner of the lucky draw at Sheila's. The Flower Basket, celebrating its second anniversary in Hensall is operated by Dianne Gerstenkorn and assisted by Mrs. Grant Love. Marylin Pym demonstrated making corn husk dolls. The draw winner was Leslie Jeffrey of Zurich. These attractive stores are an addition to the business of Hensall and present an attractive appearance. Nov. 15 was Movie Day. The movie took the audience on a canoe trip down a river. The scenery was exquisite. Friday afternoon the activity room was converted to a fashion centre, as Gen Fashions, London, displayed their merchandise. Residents had a delightful afternoon Sunday with Coby and Irvirre Amor* and Mrs. Arming. They played the piano and guitar and sang songs. The Hensall Three Links Seniors are invited to share games and music at the Horne on Thursday, November 22 at 2 p.m. While their mothers sold items at the Vanastra Bazaar on Nov. 17, Leanne Storey and Lindsay McEwen were watched by Heidi Elliott.
