The Clinton path to a BA degree
CLINTON - There are many paths to a
university degree, and increasing numbers
of adults are exploring them.
Among those completing the journey were
129 part-time students who received degrees
at the University of Western Ontario Con-
vocation onOct. 25 and 26, including two who
obtained their B.A.'s by taking courses at
Western's extension cent,.e in Clinton. They
include: Carol Kirton of. Varna and Robert
Macdonald of Mitchell.
Commenting on the part-time graduates,
Dr. Thomas N.. Guinsburg, Dean of Faculty
of Part -Time and Continuing Education
noted, "Each part-time graduate has had to
make a special effort to gain the degree.
Sometimes they've found the courses they
want nearby, other times they've travelled
to get them. •
"While 68 are from the London area, 61
come from Western's out-of-town centres.
Combining work and family responsibilities
'With their educational pursuits, they are
among their community's unsung heroes
and heroines."
Western's part-time program in extension
centres in Southwestern Ontario dates back
more than a half century. Currently
Western serves 25 off -campus centres
reaching north to Owen Sound, south to St.
Thomas and Simcoe, west to Sarnia, and
east to Brantford.
