of Teen Club
attends service
KIM Crawford
One different characteristic of this fall's
U.C.W. Thankoffering service in Blyth, was
the attendance of a large number of young
people including 20 members of the Teen
Club. They came to hear a teenager, Kim
Crawford of Waterloo, relate her
experiences in Australia, where she spent
the 1983 school year as a Rotary Club
Exchange student.
Kim's slides and commentary were
representative of several states, for Rotary,
Australia, had provided Exchange students
a three week btis tour. Her slides showed,
among many interesting sights, animals,
birds, beaches,an aborigine, the parliament
buildings, camel back riding, mining areas,
sheep farms, and the school which Kim at-
tended in Brisbane, Queensland.
High schools lack cafeterias. Students
stand outside to eat lunch.
Kim said that during her year in Australia
she had grown as a Christian, and was proud
to be an ambassador for, not only Canada
and her district of Waterloo, but also for
Christ.
Kim was introduced by her aunt, Susan
Howson. June Pack thanked Kim and ,gave
her a token of Blyth U.C.W.'s appreciation
- a gift of money.
Evalena Webster and Catherine Caldwell
conducted a Thanksgiving worship service
which included two duets by Cheryl Cronin
and Diane Wasson with flute and piano
accompaniment by Heather Bauman and
Margaret Kai.
Kim answered questions posed by both
young and old when they crowded around
the table in the church hall on which three
large Scrap books displayed pictures and
mementoes of her exciting year "don
under."
The Eveready and Onward Units served
refreshments.

Skate -a. -ton response great
On Saturday, November 3, Blyth Minor
Sports and Blyth Figure and Power Skating
Clubs will throw open the arena door for a
Skate-a-thon.
It is hoped that this ambitious venture will
be a major money raising event for both
organizations. The money raised will go
towards ice rental, pros fees, referees etc.
The young and the "Young at Heart" are
invited to come and skate for all or part of
the Skate-a-thon. You must have at least one
sponsor in order to skate. Pledge sheets are
available at.Scrlmgeour's Food Market.
So dig out the old blades and come out and
skate for the children in our community.
The Skate-a-tbon runs from 10:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m. (six hours of skating). There are
breaks every hour and a half hour at noon.`
For those seven and under the Skate-a-thon
ends at 12:00 noon (two hours off skating).
New this year will be all kinds of games,
races, relays and special skates with prizes
for the winners. As well the list of awards
has been expanded.
There will be Participation Momentoes
for EVERY SKATER and trophies for the
girl and boy raising the most money, for the
girl and boy raising the second most money
and the seven and under child raising the
moot money. As well there will be awards
for the oldest and youngest skater, the
largest family on skates and the hockey
team with the largest number of players on
skates.

either club to win an award, but you must
skate the allotted time.

break times.. Each skater is responsible for
his own noon lunch. Marion Cook is making
arrangements to have meals available at
the booth.
Traffic controllers will be cruising the ice
at all tunes so it will be completely safe even
for the very young.
Skate-a-thon Co -Ordinator Susan Howson
reports that the response from the Blyth and
area Business Community has been great,
"We are particularly grateful to those who
have no one involved in, children's sports
and yet have donated so willingly."
A complete list of these donators will be
posted at the arena for , the month of
November.
For a day of fun and excitement come to
Blyth and District Arena on Nov. 3.
