Roorda's Grade 3/4 at Clinton Public School (CPS) went on a field tri to the School Car and Conservation Parka Here are some of the stories written about the trip. Last Thursday the grade 3-4 went on a field trip. First my group went across the river on the stepping stones. First we check- ed off three dead trees. Next we checked off shrubs then some more dead trees. Some people went on tine equipment. We went to doing this stuff until we got the number 4. Miss Slowman, said we were going to take a short cut. So we went through the Goldenrod and long grass. My group ended up going backwards. Then we went across the stepp- ing stones and going back to the picnic area. So it ended up that my group won.+by Heather Arthur, Gr. 4. +++ Thursday we went to the school car in Clinton. The school car used to go from town to town in Northern Ontario. Mrs. Eva Roorda. the Grade 4 teacher spoke to a special assembly of all the students and a number of parents. She pointed out to all present, the many privileges that they shared as citizens of Canada, as children and adults who enjoy Christian homes, schools and churches. The children showed their thankfulness by bringing, to the stage, gifts of fruits, vegetables and other groceries mostly of the non-perishable variety. Having placed their gifts in piles on the, stage, each class presented a brief selection - song, reading or recitation. The entire assembly reponsed with the singing of several songs of praise and thanksgiving. The assembly was closed in a prayer. A representative of each group, April Ten Pas a student, Mrs. Margaret Dykstra, a parent, and Miss Dorothy Prinzer a teacher offered a prayer which specifically focussed upon the needs and blessings of her respective group. Immediately following the assembly and the dismissal of students to their buses, the teachers and a number of, volunteer students divided the donated groceries into 21 baskets. The baskets were presented to representatives of the variouschurches in Clinton, Goderich, Exeter and Blyth, as they had been requested. These representatives informed the school that they would pass on the baskets to needy families in a very discreet manner. . Staff, students and parents went. home to enjoy a restful Thanksgiving weekend. There was a golden spike in the rail of the train tracks. Inside the car there were sliding black boards. We measured the ginko tree in the park. We ate lunch and then we played soccer, and bad- minton. We all got a treat. Then we left. i had fun. +Shelley Speed, Gr. 3. +++ Last week grade 3/4 went for a field trip to the conservation area. It was fun. After a lit- tle while we went on the fitness trail. I saw two snake holes and six ground bog holes. Shane McDonald caught a crayfish. After everybody was back we had thirds of cookies and thirds of drinks of Kool Aid. It was real good. At the fire pole I found some grapes. I had Mr. Meade for a leader. I was miles and miles away.—by Nathan Burns, Gr.3 +++ On Sept. 20 our classroom went to the school car for lunch. Then we went into the school car and saw the golden spike. When we went back outside again I got to measure the ginko tree. Then we went to the Con- servation Park, and went on the trail. I was pushing Jemmy all over the place. When we came back from the trail, some of us wept to play. When we came back we had juice and cookies. Then we walked back to the school. When we got back we got to go home.—,Crystal Garrett, Gr. 4 +++ The Grade 7 Maitland Block Trip The grade 7's left at 9:05 for a trip to the Maitland Block. When we got there we went on a hunt. The hunt was for our 1st science test. For this test we had to find 20 . ereect red markers that were hidden in ertent places all over the Block. Many people only got half of them because they either got lost in the bush, couldn't figure out where they were going or played in the bog (which is a muddy marsh). The top winners were Curtis McCone, Chris Bircham, Craig Caldwell and Mike Edward. After everyone came back from the hunt a group of 4 or 5 people had -to build a fire to cook their hobo lunch on. The hobo lunch consisted . of a patty of hamburg, some potatoes, some carrots and whatever else you wanted. After everyone ate we had a garbage clean-up because the block had a lot of broken glass on it from parties people had out there. Jennifer Tremeer, Lisa Beattie, Monica Meade, Colleen Gower and Sherri Levis were the winners for the clean-up. They got 4 garbage bags full. The prize was a donut each. Also we had cards cut in half to scatter around some of the Block for the Grade 8 scavenger hunt the next day. Everyone came back tired from the 6 mile hunt that morning and from the scavenger hunt. Also near the end of the day we went and got an ant hill which is in Mr. Addison's classroom. It was the Grade 7's first time out there and I am sure that we all had a lot of fun.— Done By: Jennifer Tremeer, Grade 7, Mrs. Bergmann. +++ Humour In The Classroom One student on her test paper observed "Artists come to Gaspe because it is a quaint nesting place". Another concluded that "Indians called Gaspe 'Land's End' for it seemed so old and out of fashion, it would probably come to an end very soon! Still on the topic of French Canada, did you know that, "Talon encouraged popula- tion in. New France by giving a prize to the family who could produce the most children in one year?" And did you realize that "Sainte Marie I was the first place where the missionaries captured the Indians and Christianized them?" Then there was the student who claimed he couldn't learn French because he wasn't born French.—(From Mr. Roorda's collec- tion).
