UCW hear aboutrFive Oaks
The. General Meeting of the Hensall UCW
was held on October 1. Unit 3 was in charge
of devotions. Mary Brintnell greeted at the
door. Dorothy Brintnell conducted the devo-
tion.
Dianne Gerstenkorn, convenor of Leader-
ship. Development, introduced Rev. Dr.
George Hermanson, director of Five Oaks
and Rev. George Young, Prime Associate,
who gave the history of Five Oaks and the
types of events that are available by slide
presentation and verbal commentary.
World Outreach reported a bale of baby
and youth clothes had been sent to Zaire.
The fall bale will be packed on October 29 at
9 a.m.
A donation was made to the seeds for
Zaire. The Unit 3 Bazaar is on November 14.
Sadie Hoy volunteered to serve on the
Drinking/Driving Prevention Committee.
United Church Calendars will again be sold
by members. Joyce Pepper the President,
opened with a poem and Dorothy Parker
gave courtesy remarks and Unit 4 served
lunch.
Northerest pews
The seniors at Northcrest had a pot luck
dinner Thursday evening to observe the
September and October birthdays namely
Lottie Lawrence, Barbara Plumb, and Glen
McKnight. There were 18 in , attendance.
Several of the ladies played bingo.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pearce, of
Holmesville, visited on Saturday with
Elizabeth Alexander, and Ernie and Olga
Chipchase.
Hazel Luther returned home on Saturday
after a vacation with her family and friends
at tl)e East Coast. Irene Finlayson and Rose
Pyke spent Friday at Orangeville. Jean
Morris of Goderich visited with her sister
and brother-in-law Olga and Ernie Chip -
chase last week.
Mrs. John Pepper had a good report
following her recent eye surgery. Jack and
Audrey O'Connor are spending a few days in
Toronto. Joe and Edna McLellan visited
Thursday with Wilfred Glazier of Clinton.
OliveHeal had eye surgery on Friday and
her report is favorable.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert McGregor attended
the funeral for their friend William Rinn in
Thamesford on Thursday.
Three Links Seniors
The Three Links Seniors met on October 9.
Dorothy Brintnell reported on the conven-
tion held in Windsor recently. She also gave
the treasurer's report.

Mary Kinsman is a patient in Seaforth
Community Hospital. Her many friends
wish her a speedy recovery.
Hazel Luther returned home after spen-
ding several weeks with family and friends
at the East Coast and Newfoundland.
Queensway News
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday last
week's activities -started off with crafts on
October 9. Shirley Luther conducted the
afternoon church service.
After daily exercises on October 103
residents got involved in "acting". Imagina-
tion was used in creating interesting
charades. In the afternoon bingo was played
with ladies of Unit 3 from Hensall United
Church: After the ,game a sing -song was
held.
On Thursday afternoon a Laurel and Har-
dy silent movie was shown. In the evening
ladies and their children from the Men-
nonite Church, Zurich visited. Help was
given by them in making Hallowe'en
decorations, followed by lunch.
On October 13 open house was held by the
family of Elmer and Reta Potter in honour
of their 50th wedding anniversary. Friends
and family were present for the celebration.
UCW meet
Unit II of the Hensall UCW held their
Thanksgiving meeting on October 8. Kay
Mock opened with a poem. Florence Slade
was in charge of the devotion. Roll Call was
answered by seven.
Members were reminded that the bale
will be packed at 9 a.m. October 29. Also
Unit II will be making Christmas favors for
Queensway, so please bring old Christmas
cards and scissors to the. November
meeting. Diane Gerstenkorn gave a thought
provoking study emphasizing, "In our ef-
forts to save others, we ourselves are sav-
ed."
South Huron Youth
• For Christ
The first rally of the season for Youth For
Christ was held Saturday in Brucefield
school with around 150 in attendance. The
rally was in charge of Ron Westlake. He
opened' 'with singing several choruses with ,
Sharon Parker at the piano, after which
Rev. Murray of Bayfield offered prayer.
The board has purchased a Quiz Time
System Set. Each chair that the quizzersits
on has an electronic switch and when .they
jump to answer the question the light comes
on the panel thus the score keeper knows
which person was up .first. This was
demonstrated on a trial to let know how it
works.
Next month, November 3 they will be quiz-
zing on Psalm 120 and 121.
Young people from Grand Bend Church of
God provided the music, consisting of a
vocal duet by Michael and Michelle Vincent
with Lori Vincent at the piano and solos by
Lori Steckie and Marilyn McGregor with
Laura Campbell at the piano. ' '
During the offering Laura Campbell and
Lori Vincent favored with a duet on the
piano.
The November 3 rally will show a film en-
titled "Angel Alley" also plans are being
made for a winter retreat in February at
Ules Aarums Camps, Delevan, New York.
The film "The Prodigal" is being shown in
London and Goderich in October. This is a
Billy Graham Film. •
The speaker for the evening was Rev.
Vince Guerra, Pastor of First Church of
God, Blacksburg, Virginia. He was born and
raised in New York City and was involved in
street gangs and drugs and alcohol. He told
of his life on drugs and how he was saved
and is now serving God.
Rev. John Campbell, Grand Bend closed •
with prayer. Remember to keep the first
Saturday night of each month open for a
good Rally in Brucefield School.
