J Roots, slips and ideas exchanged By Doris Hunter The Bayfield Garden Club enjoyed art' amusing film showing an intrepid gardener, who scoffed at all the traditional ways of caring for the crops, by submerging the land in a heavy mulch of hay. The crops shown were amazing and our own hard workinghorticulturalists were certainly entertained. A brisk interchange of donations they took place with plants ' from ivy roots from Robbie Burns garden m Scotland to geraniums and primula delphinium. No one went home empty handed and all the members expressed their thanks for the delicious cakes and tarts provided by. Lori Consitt on the road to recovery By Mary Chessell VARNA - David and Barbara Manning of Pilot Mound, Manitoba, visited with Tom and Barb Consitt and family last Thursday. Lori Consitt returned home from hospital a week ago after surgery to remove pins, from the fractures she had last fall. We wish Lori a speedy return to good mobility. Please remember, there will be no church service or Sunday school in Varna next Sun- day. Goshen church is celebrating their an- niversary, with the Rev. Ken Bauman of Blyth as guest preacher. He is an excellent speaker, and also has a fine singing voice. Children under five will have activities downstairs after their story. St. Andrew's celebrates ll7th year By Margaret Hoggarth KIPPEN - St. Andrew's, Kippen celebrated its 117th anniversary on October 14 with Rev. Paul Murray of Bayfield presiding in the pulpit. Fitness Freaks meet ''HOLMESVILLE - The fourth meeting of the 4-H Fitness Freaks met at the home of Marina Rawlings on October 13. The meeting began with the pledge. After that members read in their books. They discussed snack habits and learned how to do sit-ups and push-ups.properly. The recipe for the day was Bran Muffins and Cheesy Popcorn which were enjoyed with refreshments. The meeting ended with the 4-H motto and members thanked Mrs. Rawlings for the use of her home. The next meeting will be on October 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Janet Ducharme's after a trip to the Saltford Craft Show. The scripture was read by Jean Perdue and leader Muriel Grigg gave a reading, based on the Thanksgiving theme. Grace Walter and Charlotte Norman read poems and Phyllis Cox gave a reading. Vice President Mrs. Norman chaired the business session, in the absence of President Isabel Harris. Final plans were made for the upcoming bazaar. It will be held at the Goderich Township Hall on Wednesday, November 7 at 2:30 p.m. Phyllis Cox's team were named the penny saver winners and a dinner will be held on Monday, October 22 at 6:30 p.m. Worship Service was held in Holmesville United Church Sunday morning with Rev. Bechtel in charge. The Enterprising Seniors will meet October 18 at 8 p.m. in the Community Centre in Holmesville.
