The United Church Woolen's
Thankoffering meeting was held on October
10 The Church was decorated, with autumn
flgwers, for the occasion.
Gwen Whilsmith, the guest speaker, had
seine most interesting slides, taken' on a
recent trip around the world. Pictures from
six countries were shown with confluents on
conditions therein.

they had stayed, and was able to discuss
with them the views of the local people,

Jean Milne sang a silo which summed up
the theme of the evening. Refreshments? Of
course!
Euchre season resumeg
The euchre club is in full swing, five tables
were needed for the players Wednesday
evening. The scores for high lady Nettie
McClinehey, high man, Ed Straghan, low
lady Eileen Cleaves. Low man Glen
Dowson. Lone hands, ladies Vera Gregg,
gentlemen Reg Wilson.
The next round will be October 24 at 8 p.m.
at the Municipal Building. Ladies dont
forget the lunch. J
Roots, slips and ideas exchanged

The Bayfield Garden Club enjoyed art'
amusing film showing an intrepid gardener,
who scoffed at all the traditional ways of
caring for the crops, by submerging the land
in a heavy mulch of hay.
The crops shown were amazing and our
own hard workinghorticulturalists were
certainly entertained.
A brisk interchange of donations they took
place with plants ' from ivy roots from
Robbie Burns garden m Scotland to
geraniums and primula delphinium.
No one went home empty handed and all
the members expressed their thanks for the
delicious cakes and tarts provided by. Mrs.
Jean Bell and her sister Mrs. Jessie Blair. ,
The president Mr. Herbert Beatty
announeed the November meeting on the
12th will be the yearly look back in slides
provided by the Garden Club
photographers.
Lori Consitt on the road to recovery

VARNA - David and Barbara Manning of
Pilot Mound, Manitoba, visited with Tom
and Barb Consitt and family last Thursday.
Lori Consitt returned home from hospital
a week ago after surgery to remove pins,
from the fractures she had last fall. We wish
Lori a speedy return to good mobility.
Please remember, there will be no church
service or Sunday school in Varna next Sun-
day. Goshen church is celebrating their an-
niversary, with the Rev. Ken Bauman of
Blyth as guest preacher. He is an excellent
speaker, and also has a fine singing voice.
Children under five will have activities
downstairs after their story.
Congratulations to Brenda Dowson who
has successfully completed an extension
course for Health Record Technicians
(HRT) . She will be applying to the Canada
College of Health Record Administrators to
receive . Associate Administrator Creden-
tials.
St. Andrew's celebrates ll7th year

KIPPEN - St. Andrew's, Kippen
celebrated its 117th anniversary on October
14 with Rev. Paul Murray of Bayfield
presiding in the pulpit.
Music was presented by the guest soloist
Donna St. John. The, Kippen Choir also add-
ed to the musical presentation. •
Rev. Paul Murray based his sermon on
"Be Free". Next Sunday, Pastor Don Mof-
fat will be back in the pulpit and his sermon
will be centred around "To serve and Pro-
tect", dedicated to Police officers and their
families.

Preszcator made baked potatoes, Lana
Jones and Shelly Pearson made chili con
came (which was spread over the potatoes),
Gina Mustard and Adrienne Bartlett made
custard and Anne Tyndall and Lori Forbes
cleaned up. Everything turned out well ex-
cept the custard, which was slightly curdy.
Fitness Freaks meet
''HOLMESVILLE - The fourth meeting of
the 4-H Fitness Freaks met at the home of
Marina Rawlings on October 13.
The meeting began with the pledge. After
that members read in their books. They
discussed snack habits and learned how to
do sit-ups and push-ups.properly.
The recipe for the day was Bran Muffins
and Cheesy Popcorn which were enjoyed
with refreshments. The meeting ended with
the 4-H motto and members thanked Mrs.
Rawlings for the use of her home.
The next meeting will be on October 20 at
1:30 p.m. at Janet Ducharme's after a trip to
the Saltford Craft Show.

Thanksgiving was UCW's theme

HOLMESVILLE - Thanksgiving was the
theme of the Holmesville UCW's October
meeting.
The scripture was read by Jean Perdue
and leader Muriel Grigg gave a reading,
based on the Thanksgiving theme. Grace
Walter and Charlotte Norman read poems
and Phyllis Cox gave a reading.
Vice President Mrs. Norman chaired the
business session, in the absence of President
Isabel Harris.
Final plans were made for the upcoming
bazaar. It will be held at the Goderich
Township Hall on Wednesday, November 7
at 2:30 p.m.
Phyllis Cox's team were named the penny
saver winners and a dinner will be held on
Monday, October 22 at 6:30 p.m.
Worship Service was held in Holmesville
United Church Sunday morning with Rev.
Bechtel in charge.
The Enterprising Seniors will meet
October 18 at 8 p.m. in the Community
Centre in Holmesville. Guest speaker forr the
evening will be Estelle Wise of the Town and
Bulbs planted
VARNA - Members of the Stan -Lee Club
will plant flower bulbs around the flagpole
at the Community Centre grounds. Plans for.
the landscaping project were made at the
club's October 10 meeting in Varna.

for an informal business meeting.
