VARNA - Carol Simons gave an excellent
Thanksgiving meditation at the October
meeting of Varna United Church Women.
She noted that the Pilgrim's first
Thanksgiving celebrations were for being
able to survive, as well as to prosper in their
harsh new environment. She stated that we,
don't experience real thankfulness until we
can say with all our heart "My cup
overflows". Doris Wilson read the scripture
passages and Susan Kirton received the of-
fering.
Dianne Kirton went to a great deal of work
in gathering corn cobs, straw wreaths and
other materials, and showed how to make
Thanksgiving wreaths. Her daughter Susan
was a big help, too, in getting everything
laid out, even thinking to provide water and
aloe vera in case 'someone was burned by
the hot glue. I'm sure all of the members
were pleased with the result of their efforts,
although a frequently heard comment was,
"I'm not artistic".
President Bernice Reid reported on the
excellent program and . speaker at the
Regional Rally in Brucefield which was at-
tended by seven Varna UCW members.
A shower is being held for Dale Simons in
