WALTON - Isabelle Shortreed arrived
home Friday from a four day color tour to
Sault Ste. Marie, Agawa Canyon and
Mackina, Island. She was accompanied by
Marguerite Sanderson and Edith Baker of
Brussels and Nora Moffatt of Wroxeter.
Thanksgiving weekend guests with Mr.
and Mrs. Ray Huether were Mr. and Mrs.
Howard Deane of Barrie, Steven Huether of
Toronto and John Huether of Guelph.
Dinner guests on Thanksgiving Monday
with Ruth Thamer were Ruthie Thamer of
Woodstock; Mike Wade of London and
Maybelle Moore of Woodstock.
Mr. and Mrs. Myron Bruce have returned
home to Yarrow, B.C. after several weeks
visiting with their daughter, Judi and David
Weisbrod, Kipp and Allan.
Allan Weisbrod is recuperating at home
following a tonsillectomy at Seaforth
Hospital last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Murray visited
recently with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Haase at
Sault .Ste. Marie. The Haase'svisited the
Murray families in the community last
week. ,

'Thanksgivingweekend with Mr. and Mrs.
Barry MacLeod and Natasha in Waterloo.
Mary Humphries held her Thanksgiving
dinner on Sunday when members of her
family were home, they included Bob and.
Nora Humphries, Kathy, 'Chris and Jim of
London; Stan and Wendy Stroop, Shawna
and Paul of Palmerston; George and Kim
Kruse of Bayfield.
Paul Humphries of Toronto visited recent-
ly at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Humphries. Craig Humphries who is at-
tending Doon College, was at the same home
sick for a few days this past week.

Road workers
get increase
MORRIS TWP.-Morris Township road
employees John Smith and Jim Casemore
have been given a new wage package which
will translate to a 5.7 per cent increase in
pay and benefits.
Although the two men received an in-
crease of only 20 cents per hour, council has
agreed to pay their OHIP premiums for the
first time ever. Their actual per hour wage
now is $9.45, up from $9.25.
Council granted Road Superintendent
Lloyd Michie a wage 'increase of 7.5 per
cent. Mr. Michie's pay will go to $9.25 per
hour from $8.60. Council does not pay his
OHIP premiums.
In other business, a snowplow contract for
the township's eighth and ninth concessions
was awarded to George Radford Ltd. of
Blyth for a grader at $38.50 per hour.
Council had no objections to a severance
application from Bodmin Ltd. on the south
half of Lot 11, Con. 5. The application pro-
poses severing a 1.04 -acre parcel with a
house and a barn foundation. The reason
stated for the severance is to be rid of a
surplus dwelling.
The next meeting of Morris council is
scheduled for November 5 at 7 p.m. at the
township shed.
Whitechurch native
nanied prison warden
Mary Dawson, the former Mary Fisher of
Whitechurch, north of Auburn recently was
appointed the first woman warden of a
maximum -security prison in Canada.
She took command at the Kingston
penitentiary, which houses some of
Canada's most voilent criminals.
'I'll be as tough as the situation
demands," Mrs. Dawson was reported to
have said after a change -of -command
ceremony.
She joined the prison service in 1967 as
secretary to the warden at the minimum-
aepurity Warkworth prison located
southeast of Peterborough.
In more recent, years she was warden of
the medium -security prison at Joyceville
near Kingston.

decorated with gourds, fruits and
vegetables for the Thenhsgivtng service.
Mrs. George Procter -was the organist and
Sheila Anderson was pianist.
Rev. John G. Roberts chose scripture
readings relating to the original.creation of
the world and the new creation.
The minister expressed his appreciation
for the work of art in the display arranged
by Mrs. James Hunter, Mrs. Glenn Coultes
and Mrs. Robert Grasby.
Thankoffering meeting
The WMS Thankoffering meeting was
held on October 1 at the home of Mrs. Victor
Youngblut.
Mrs. Youngblut opened the meeting with a
reading and read the prayer.
The meditation was taken by. Mrs. Joe
Dunbar, Mrs. William Dalrymple and Mrs.
Garner Nicholson. The Thanksgiving.
service in the Glad Tidings was used for the
worship service. t.
Each lady .brought a poem or' story on
Thanksgiving to read. The secretary's
report was given by Mrs. John McBurney
and Mrs. Youngblut gave the treasurer's
report.

A special day 45 years ago was
remembered when relatives gathered at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gordon to
celebrate with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Taylor their wedding anniversary.
The couple was taken by surprise when
relatives gathered with their best wishes.
Games of progressive euchre were
enjoyed and lucky draw prizes were handed
out. The winnners were Mrs: Ross Robinson,.

John Thompson.

Over 1,000 people gathered at the
Belgrave Community Centre on October. 3
for a hot turkey dinner with all the
trimmings.
