The Stanley Township Squirt Boys came home with the "B" trophy this year after a

Harvest decorates church "

MIDDLETON — St. James Angl'can
Church was decorated beautifully with corn,
vegetables and fruit for the Harvest
Thanksgiving Sunday.
Bill Steenstra, the people's warden,
presented the bread and grapes, the symbol
of thanksgiving to be blessed.
Rev. Aubrey Bell spoke to the children
and asked them if they had a garden. He told
them their parents were gardeners in rais-
ing their children. Tessa Steenstra received
the collection. Special prayers were offered
for Joe Storey who underwent surgery Mon-
day.
Ray Wise received the offering.
Edward Wise and Edward Deeves are
thanked for their heaters on Sunday for the
church. The new furnace is being installed.
Our get well wishes go to Muriel Mid-
dleton and Joe Storey, who are patients in
hospital.
Vera and Keith Miller held Thanksgiving
last Saturday with the family at home.
The A.C.W. of St. James' Middleton
Church wishes to thank all who travelled
with them on their recent bus trip to the
Toronto Zoo.

Make a Megaphone
A megaphone comes in handy when you're try-
ing to talk to someone too far away to hear a
shout. This megaphone will magnify and direct
your voice at games. parties or on the streets
To make a megaphone' you need:
• A large plastic container which has a handle a
vinegar jug or a bleach jug work well.
• Some decorating materials — magic markers,
pens, tape etc.
• Scissors
Directions:
1. Cut the top of the container off about an inch
below the screw top threads.
2. Cut the bottom of the container of(.
3. Cover the Sharp edges with tape.
4. Decorate your megaphone.
5. Put the megaphone up to your mouth and test
it with some of your friends.

Laura Roy was able to return to school for
half -days last Wednesday. She is much bet-
ter, but still requires ektra rest.
Harold Peck's Hobby Hut is receiving a
new roof and an office addition since he pur-
chased the property from Bev Hill. Ed
Heard, with his backhoe, did a neat job of
removing the stump of a tree which had
grown up tight against the wall of the shop.
Laura Keys' house has a fresh new look
after re -insulation and new white siding
with green trim.
Harvey and Joyce Atchison have removed
the old siding from their house, in prepara-
tion for new insulation and siding.
Members of Varna UCW will be able to
make a Thanksgiving wreath to take home

Mayhew wins five awards

HOLMESVIIJ.F, - Janine Mayhew won
five awards at Central Huron Central Secon-
dary School and won the Grade 12 General
Proficiency award this year. Janine has
been accepted at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Univer-
sity on her Grade 12 marks.She was a
former student of Holmesville Pubiic
School.
On Sundav morning at Holmesville United
Church, the church was beautifully
decorated with fall flowers. A _warm
welcome was extended to everyone who
went to worship and share in the 105th An-
niversary of Christian witness in
Holmesville Church.
Lewis family! Also special thanks to
Graeme Craig, the guest soloist. Rev. Lewis
spoke to the congregation about the people
of Kenya also success with the chickens that
he bought with the money which was sent by
Holmesville Church. Mr. Craig sang two
solos. Bill Batkin, Tom Lobb, Ken Harris
and Larry Rutledge received the offering.
Following the service many joined in a
time of fellowship. Refreshments were serv-
ed by the U.C.W.
On Thursday at 6:15 p.m. Catechism class
will be held at Wesley -Willis Church.
This Sunday is Worldwide Communion,
Sunday and Thanksgiving. Please
remember to bring your special Thanksgiv-
ing offering envelopes for Ventures. in Mis-
sion.
The UCW will meet on October 9 at 2 p.m.
The Men's Club will also meet on October 9,
8:30 p.m., Wesley Willis Church.
The Enterprising Seniors will meet Oc-
tober 4 at 8 p.m. at the Community Centre in
Holmesville.
Volunteer couple speak during service

BRUCEFIELD - Ken and Pat Britton and
family were guest speakers at a special
evening service at Brucefield United Chur-
ch.
Mr. and Mrs. Britton have been volunteer
workers with Compassion of Canada for
eight years. They also operate a farm in the
Dublin area.
Special music at the service was provided
by Pastor Don Moffat at the piano, Barbara
Livermore at the organ and Rob Adams,
playing the trumpet. Soloist was Mrs. Brit-
ton.
A'fihn presentation explaining the work of
overseas missions was shown, followed by
an informal discussion.
People report
Violet Ross visited with Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Ashton at Port Elgin and attended the wed-
ding of her nephew on Saturday.
Wayne Stirling had the misfortune to fall
from a ladder. He will be off work for some
time.
