Watsons celebrate 60 years

WALTON - Open house was held on
September 23 to celebrate the 60th wedding
anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Watson. It
was held in Walton United Church and at-
tended by family, friends, relatives and
neighbors.
The open house was followed by a family
dinner at the home of their son, Gerald and
Berva Watson.
Their daughter Leona and her husband
Ray Nelson were home from Vancouver
B.C.as well as grandchildren from Toron-
to, L,ondon and Brussels. Leona was able to
stay with her parents for a longer visit.

Rev. Charles Swan led the Sunday service
at Duff's United Church. Marion Godkin
was the organist.
Carol and Peggy Humphries greeted the
congregation and the ushers were Bill
Coutts, Bruce Clark and Doug Fraser.
The christening service was held and
babies who were baptized were: Karla
Leeah, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Thomas Kale; Darryl Rae, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Murray Houston; Jeffrey Robert, son
of Mr. and Mrs. David Linton; Kenneth Ed-
ward, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul McCallum;
Scott James, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rick
McDonald.
4-H news
The third meeting of the Walton I 4-H Club
on Fitness Fare was held on September 24 at
the Walton Hall.
President Tara McKelvie opened the
meeting. Members answered the roll call by.
naming four ways they could get more exer-
cise.
After studyig home activities, members
ran a 1600 metre test.
The name chosen for the club is Flexible
Friends.
Members cooked chili and slaw, served
with baked potatoes.

Mr. and Mrs. Roily Achilles returned
home on Friday from a four week motor trip
to Hearst where they visited their sister-in-
law Della Achilles. She went with them to
Sioux Narrows, where they visited her son
and family and Rolly's sister May Haight. -
Kathy Humphries of London spent the
weekend with her grandmother, Mary Hum-
phries.

McDonald, following the Sunday christening

A vote of thanks went to Past President
Beth Knox and Secretary Isabel Scanlon for
their work over the past two years.
Mr. Johnson of the New Horizons Grant
Program called at the home of Beth Knox on
September 27 for a report of the purchasing
committee. Hazel Reid reported the grant
was $4,708. Purchased were 104 stacking
chairs, 10 card tables, one banquet table,
one 30 inch electric stove, two roasting pans,
six vegetable kettles, two serving carts, two
stainless steel bowls, a large kettle, two
refuse bins for the end of the serving carts,
two trays for two sets of silverware and
shuffleboard equipment. A note of thanks to
Hazel for her work on the buying commit-
tee.
Clara Riley was nominated to be in charge
of the kitchen supplies. It was moved to buy
a memoriam book. The treasurer's report
was received from Margaret Taylor.
Ten games of cards were played and the
ladies' winners were: high, Mae Smith, low,
Mary McDougall and lone hands, Gloria
McEwing. The men's winners were: high,
Harry Caldwell, low, Vietta Hoggart (play-
ing as a man), and lone hands, Jack Arm-
strong.
Draws were donated by Clare Vincent.
Jim McEwing won by Bob Thompson and
Jake McDougall.

Londesboro Fitness Fare Club met at the
home of leader Helen Kolkman on
September 24.
The members helped to make french fried
potatoes and fruit custard. A date was plan-
ned for the 1600 meter run and ideas for the
project cover were discussed. The meeting
closed with all members enjoying a sample
of the foods.

Community Hospital • on September 25
following an ankle fracture.
On September 27, WI members Margaret
Taylor, Marjorie Anderson, Dora Shob-

Brucefield on October 1.
