Sylvia's music is about small town people,

Band makes triumphant return to Clinton
By Janet Tench
CLINTON - This weekend held a colourful
delight for Clinton, in the form of an exciting
rock band, Rockus.
Although not well known, it has a better
show than many of the big name bands that
have appeared here. "We give people what
we would like to see in a band," said the lead
vocalist, Mike Temmerman. "
Most important of all, Rockus has a
special attachment to the Elm Haven. THis
weekend Rockus came home.
Rockus, not to be confused with Ruckus,
formed in London approximately 15 months
ago. Four days -after their formation they
were taken under the wing of Todd LeBlanc.
Immediately Mr. LeBlanc booked them at
the Haven. '
"With Rockus I know I have a chance -at.
the top," he divulged. The reception here
had not been great, but when the band
returned a year later, they were over-
whelmed. • "They broke the attendance
record here."
In general, Rockus does covers, but they
did perform two of their own stings this
weekend, Poison Eyes and Hit and Run
Love which has a video show on Superchan-
nel.
The musicians that influence ,the band,
and show up in the fore -mentioned covers
are first and foremost the Scorpions. They
are also influenced by such artists as
Triumph and Journey. Jerry Vickers, on
drums, gets into jazz fusion. Most impor-
tantly of all, they can't stand Boy George.
• "While", Boris Novosel, guitarist, admit-
ted; "touring has, its pros and cons, we like
playing, and we almost get paid for it."
"We get to show off as big kids," added
bass player Nick Ciccone.
Furthermore, Rockus was pleased with
the attendance, having a full house on a
night when there were seven Stag and Does.
' The Clinton audience knew how to enjoy the
theatrical presentation before them. For.
each of the three sets the applause was loud
and -hearty.
The spectacular show deserved it. Despite
difficulties with the rented sound system,
