Raipn eloo west Home of Blyth held their
Resident's Council Meeting on September
11. They discussed having a Christmas
Party at thehome for the residents.
There were four residents who celebrated
their birthday this month: Lillie Kieth, Sept.
4, turned 86;; Laura Pride, Sept. 11, turned
82; Marg Larson, Sept. 15, turned 91;
Reheny Larson, Sept. 17, turned 88.
The Missionary Church of Auburn and
Rev. Bauman of Blyth donated hymn books
to -the nursing home.
4-H'ers elect officers
The opening meeting of the Blyth I Fitness
Fare 4-H Club was held at Eunice Emke's on
September 12. Seven members answered
the roll call.
The election of officers was carried out,
resulting in: President - Colleen'flousher;
Vice President - Mary Craig; Secretary. and
Press Reporter- Elaine Brown.
After discussing the heart rate: and the
importance of breakfasts, the members
prepared and sampled the Spanish Omelet.
The next meeting is to be held on September
19.
Theatre comings and goings
Blyth's Summer Festival Theatre brings
many callers to village homes. They look up
friends, if time allows, as well as attend a
play.

"Country Hearts" last Friday night was
responsible for bringing to Melda McElroy's
home a couple whom she had not seen nor
heard tell of in 53 years. They were Mr. and
Mrs. Cuthbertson of Kingston. Bob and
Lillian had been top rate students of Melda's
in her first school - Cardinal High. Needless
to say, the three hour afternoon visit went
far too fast.
Last Friday night, the . Cutherbertsons
stayed at the theatre guest home of John and
Reta Blake. They also had booked dinner at
Auburn United Church.
Tom Bailey, son of Mason and Hazel
Bailey, who worked from June 10 to
September 1 in the Muskoka Festival held at
Gravenhurst and Port Carling, was this
• year's recipient of the Debbie Mcisaac
award.
Tom's dedicated work in the technical
department and his fine acting on West Side
Story, one of the 10 plays presented, won
him this hnnnnr
Blyth people remember Tom's splendid
acting in "Down North", a 1982. Blyth
Summer Festival production;
Jean Reid, Margaret McFaddin and
Melba Dixon of Guelph came, to Blyth last
Thursday on a bus tour to attend the Country
Hearts matinee. They were dinner guest of
Melda McElroy.
Church News
Fourteen Blyth United Church members
attended the Wesley -Willis - Ontario Street
U.C.W. Thankoffering service last Sunday
evening in Wesley -Willis church, Clinton.
Rev. Bob Rumball, who some years ago,
had been Crusade speaker in Blyth, kept the
large audience at rapt attention during his
thought-provoking address entitled "Guilty
of Being Christian."
They also appreciated her two musical
selections by the Turner -Holland -father -
daughter -quartette, and enjoyed mingling
with the large crowd during fellowship time.
Former resident dies in Mitchell
Stan Sibthorpe who died September 9 in
Mitchell after a lingering illness is
remembered by many here.
Stan conducted a barber business for
many years in Blyth, and was noted
throughout the area for his musical talent.
He was a member of the Blyth band and
the Raymond Redmond Concert Company.
Possessing a rich tenor voice, he was in
great demand as a soloist at church and
social functions.
Sympathy is extended to his widow
Margaret Sibthorpe of Staffa and to his
family.
Card parties are on
Blyth Euchre will be starting on October 1
at 8 p.m.. in the Blyth Memorial Hall.

Mrs. Jim Boyce of Bayfield spent last
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Daer of
Blyth.
The Blyth Swinging Seniors will meet on
Wednesday, September 26 at 2 p.m. in the
Blyth Memorial Hall.
The Evening Unit of the Blyth United
Church Women has invited a guest speaker
to present a film and discussion on Battered
Women, Wednesday, September 26, at 8
p.m. in the church basement. The public is
cordially invited to this meeting.

Blyth Minor Sports held their first
meeting for the 1984-85 season on September
12.
The following dates were set:
Registration - September 22; Skate-a-thon -
November 3; 2nd Annual Old Timers and
Industrial Tournament - November 16, 17
and 18.
Concerning Registration; all Blyth Minor
Winter Sports will register on Saturday,
September 22 at the Blyth Arena from 10:00
a.m. = 2:00 p.m. Thisincludes, Figure
kating, Power Skating •Aingettee4, and
'hockey. •

. For all Hockey and Ringette players who
pay their registration on September 22 there
will be a $5.00 reduction. A skate and
equipment exchange will be held at the
same time. .
It is hoped that all parents will help make
this a successful year.

Lions Club holds first meeting

The Blyth Lions Club held their first
meeting of the season on September 13 at the
Blyth Lions Park. Twenty-two Blyth Lions
and eight guests from Dublin and district
Lions Club enjoyed a steak barbecue.
The Blyth Lions Club has completed
several projects over the summer.
Construction has been completed on the
picnic shelter at the Lions Park at a cost to
the Lions club of approximately $12,000.•
This shelter is now open for use by any
individual or group. The club has pledged
$2000. towards the installation of air
conditioning, dehumidification units and
heat pumps at the Blyth and District
Community Centre. Bus transportation to
Warm-up sessi.o
The Blyth Gymnastics Club opened their
season with registration and a "warm-up"
session on September. 17. Seventy-five
children enrolled in the class.
Plans are being made for a trip to Toronto
Maple Leaf Gardens on November 6 to
and from swimming lessons at Vanastra
this past summer was once again paid for by
the Blyth Lions Club at a cost of $900.
Three Blyth youths were involved in the
Lions Youth Exchange Program this
summer. Again this winter the club will be
paying for one hour of ice time at the arena
each Tuesday night so that youngsters
learning to skate may do so at no charge.
The club will be holding their annual
Fralloween dance on Saturday, October 27 at
the Blyth and District Community Centre.
The Blyth Lions Club presently has 28
members and is only one of 36,892 Lions
clubs located in 157 nations throughout the
Free World.

pledge and had the election of officers.
