to' be awarded
for lifesaving acts
A new form of recognition has been
established by the Emergency Cardiac Care
of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of On-
tario which will commend the efforts of
anyone trained in CPR (cardiopulmonary
resuscitation) for his or her attempts at pro-
viding a lifesaving act.
Any member of the public who is a
graduate of the Heart and Stroke Founda-
tion of Ontario Heart Saver or Basic
Rescuer course is eligible for the new
Lifesaver Award.
The Award will recognize that prompt
response was inwatea by an individual at
the first signs of a life threatening event and
that appi•opliate actions were taken by that
individual, which provided a chance of sur-
vival for the victim.
By providing this form of recognition, the
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario
hopes to further create public awareness of
the fact that in an emergency cardiac situa-
tion, help must be. provided immediately
and that public training in CPR is beneficial
in learning what help to provide and how to
do it,
