defeated last weekend in the tournament
held at Dungannon. The players throughout

The Auburn Women's Institute will hold
their September meeting on September 18 at
10 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Marjorie
McDougall. The meeting will be in the
charge of Mrs. Tom Lawlor and the topic
will be on Resolutions. Everyone is

Lions Club
The first regular meeting of 1984-1985 for
the Auburn and District Lions Club was at
the Auburn Community Memorial Centre
with the new President Ross Dobie in
charge. Minutes were accepted as read by.
the secretary Donald Haines. •
Past President Marinus Bakker reported
that, as of August 10, the incorporation of. the
Auburn Lions Club had been approved.
Marinus was presented with a Past
President Plaque by Jim Schneider .and all
the members showed their appreciation for.
his work during the past year. .

It was reported that the fan for the ceiling
was ordered and will be installed as soon as
it comes to assist ventilation in the library
room.
Work has been done on the reservoirs to
repair them to bring them up to the
standards required by the Blyth•and District
Fire Department.
The drain to the west of the Centre has
been dug up and is waiting to be connected
to the main drain on Goderich Street_ The
streets have been graded and are in good
condition now.
Upcoming business was discussed and
plans started for future meetings.

Congratulations to Auburn Men's Over -30
Slo'-Pitch team who won the A
Championship last Saturday when they
defeated the Porter's Hill team 5-3 in the
finals played at Clinton.
On Friday evening, Auburn beat Clinton;
at noon Saturday, Auburn beat the Vanastra
team and on Saturday. evening, Auburn beat
the Porter's Hill team.
The coach, Clot Millian and the captain,
Gordon Daer accepted the trophy from
president Walter Bell.
The players were Tom Perry, Tom
Cunningham, Rick. Archambault, Steve
Bromley, Steve Haggitt, Steve Campbell,
Jim Dickson, Al Luna, Gordon Drennan,
Allan Webster, Bob Worsell, Bob Hallam,

is Huron Dairy princess
A 17 -year-old Brussels area girl was
crowned Huron County Dairy Princess at
the Howick Community Centre on Saturday
evening:
Denise Nethery, the daughter of Alex and
Jean Nethery of R.R. 4, Brussels was
crowned by out -going dairy princess Muriel
Booth. .
Denise was chosen over five other young
women competing in the event sponsored
annually by the Huron County Milk
Committee.
Denise is -a Grade 12 student at F.E.
Madill Secondary School in Wingham. An
avid fan of baseball and broomball, Denise
also : plays the piano and is active in 4-H
homemaking. •
The senior high school student enjoys
babysitting and is a volunteer at the
Wingham Day Care Centre. Denise is also
active in her church choir.
The runner-up for the. title was Michele
McMahon, 18, of R.R. 2, Bluevale. She is the
• daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James McMahon.
The other contestants were Anitta
'Hamming of R.R. 1, Auburn; Brenda,
MacDonald of R.R. 1, Belgrave, Shirley
Dorsch of R.R. 5, Brussels and Laurie
Schneider of R.R. 1, Fordwich.
The judges for the competition were Mrs.
John Core of R.R. 1, Wyoming, Mrs. Norma
Stevens of R.R. 2, Wyoming and Eric
McLeod of Stratford.
Over 40 businesses in Huron and Perth
donated prizes for the princess and all the
other competitors. The gifts for the dairy
princess include her tiara and a set of
luggage.
Denise's speech at the ball on Saturday
night presented facts of the dairy industry
as discussed by two Holsteins ata fair.
The chairman of the Huron County milk
committee, Hugh Litt, said if the dairy
princess is wanted a:: a guest speaker for an
organization, Dennis Martin should be
contacted at the Huron County, Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and Food office in
Clinton..

School attendance is steady

WALTON - School reopened at Walton
Public School with an enrolment of 87, the
same attendance as last year.
New teacher Rob Snell, vice president, is
in charge of music and school resource.
Grade 1 teacher is Mrs. Barb Elston with
teacher aid - Mrs. Barb Redmond.
Grade 2 teacher is Mrs. Joan Vandendool
and the Grade 3 teacher is Mrs. Shirley
Lyons.
Mrs. Della Bennett is the kindergarten
teacher with an enrolment of 20. Her
students include Charmaine (Sherry) Baan,
Jeremy Bennewies, Rodney Clarke, Valerie
Collins, Shannon Davies, Yvonne DeJong,
Jeshu Dietz, Clara Glauser, Randal Linton,
Chad McCallum, Colleen McCallum, Lee.
Ann McDonald, Jeremy McNichol, Anita
Pickett, Brent Pryce, Patrick Sangster,
Neil Saur, Ben Wall and Amanda Workman.
General Meeting
The UCW general meeting was held at the
church on September 5.
Devotions were in charge of Walton 2 with
Helen Craig presiding: Edith Weywan was
pianist for the hymns throughout the
meeting. Karen Hoegy gave the call to wor-
ship followed by prayer. The scripture
lesson was read by Marilyn McDonald.
Helen Craig chaired the business meeting
and thanked all those who helped with the
devotions. Minutes were read by Marilyn
McDonald. In the correspondence a letter
was read from the Mission and Service
Fund.
Leona McDonald gave the treasurer's
report. It was mentioned that new legs have
been bought for the tables. The anniversary
is to be held this coming Sunday with guest
minister Rev. Allan Johnston from London.
Plans were made to have a pass around
lunch with a .Social hogg f nllQwing; the ser-
vice. The entrance neW doers were discuss-
ed. The supper committee meeting is set for
September 17. October 1 is the regional rally
in Brucefield at 6:30 p.m.
The St. Thomas Men's Choir will entertain
Friday evening, Oct. 12, tickets will be sold
ahead of time..

David Weisbrod has returned from Mason
City, Iowa where he completed a course at
the Reisch World Wide College . of Auc-
tioneering where Col. Gordon E. Taylor is
president. He received training in all phases
of Auctioneering.

Golfing for hospital work

LONDESBORO - Four area golfers took
part in the Clinton Police Tournament at the
Bayfield course on September 9.
Londesboro golfers Jim McEwing, Gor-
don Shobbrook, Roy Vodden and Cliff
Saundercock played in the tournament
which helped raise funds for the Clinton
Public Hospital.
The induction service for Colin Swan at
High Park United Church in Sarnia will be
held on September 23 at 7: 30 p.m.

niversary on September 12.
Frank and Dorothy Johnston are
celebrating their 25th anniversary on the

Hullett lodges 'objection
HULLETT TWP. - Hullett Township coun-
cil moved.to continue its formal objection to
a proposed :alteration in Province of Ontario
legislation governing the construction of
bridges on local municipal boundary roads.
The motion was adopted at the September 4
councii.meeting.
The proposed change may see local
municipalities paying for the construction of
bridges, a job presently undertaken by
counties.
Township Clerk Harry Lear explained
that while counties are eligible for grants
from the Ministry' of Transportation and
Communications (MTC) totalling 80 per
cent of costs, municipalities are, able to col, i
lett only, 50 per cent of costs from ttie
ministry. .
Clerk Lear said counties had been
building the structures and then turning
them over to municipalities.
Other municipalities have lodged objec-
tions to the proposed legislation, said the
clerk. -
