Another read, "For a lame horse". It had
a protectiv..e bar at the heel end. Among the
32 labelled was "Heel Weht". It caused
the horse to lift the front of its foot higher
than'the back part.
These 32 horseshoes, all different, gleam-
ing with their new coat of chrome..paint
would have made the r'makers proud. They

Ridgetown, Woodstock, to name.a few.
One interested gentleman from
Schomberg lives close , to the famous
Carlsberg horses. Mr. Sims said, "Although
I have attended every threshers reunion
with the Seaforth band, I never realized
before from what a vast area people come to
enjoy and learn at the Threshers Reunion in
Blyth."
Before leaving, he booked a,stand for next
year's event. •
Belt Ming and log saving's best
BLYTH - There was plenty to do during
the 23rd Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby
Association Reunion last weekend. Not only
were there many interesting crafts and
machinery to look at, but there were also
many events to take part in Saturday.
The tractor belt setting competition was
won by Jim Sloan and Bob Machan with a
time of 1:35. The time of 1:42 was good
enough to put Fred Brewer and Bill Vincent
in second place,

winning time of 35 seconds. Ray Scotchmere
and Ken Connelly took second place as they
sawed their log in 41 seconds. .
For the mixed couples division, Art
Stewart and Marian Hallahan had the winn-
ing time of 45 seconds. Mrs. Hallahan then
teamed up with husband Frank and took se-
cond place with 56 seconds.
Edna Reid was Mrs. Hallahan's partner in
the women's competition, taking first place
West Wawanosh.

Steve Hallahan and Dwayne Charles won
first place in the boys and girls division of
log sawirbg. The team had a time of 1:03.
Dwight and Paul Hallahan were second with
a time of 1:46.
Winning the men's category of bag tying
was Ray Scotchmere in a time of 50 seconds.
Bill Vincent finished five seconds later, good
enough for second place.
Laura Hallahan was first in the girls
category of bag tying, finishing in 39
seconds. Diane Hallahan was a close second
with a time of 46 seconds.
The best presented engine trophy was won
by Bert Batty of London. Mr. Batty won with
his Sawyer Massey 1923 steam engine to the
reunion.
Winning the antique car trophy was Mur-
ray Hail of Wingham with his 1941 Ford
Touring Model T.
30 years
together
Don and• Melva Fraser celebrated their
30th anniversary on September 2, at the
Triple -K Restaurant.
There to surprise them were friends and
relatives. A turkey dinner was enjoyed by
all. The grace was given by five-year-old
Kathy, their granddaughter. The two sons
Randy and Blair, thanked Kay, and the girls
for the dinner and proposed a toast to their
parents. 1
After the meal, everyone was invited to
the home of Randy and Lorna Fraser of
Blyth for a social time. A few games of
cards, and pool were played.
After which a lunch was served by Blair
Fraser and Linda Cunningham. Joe Fraser
served refreshments to the children.

Dancers and fiddlers take Thresher wins
The annual Step dancing and Fiddle Con-
test was held Saturday afternoon as part of
the Huron Pioneer Threshers Reunion
event. A capacity crowd attended to hear 19
step dancers tap their toes and 20 fiddle con-
testants keep time to their waltz, jig and
reel.
Participants arrived from as far away
places as Lakeside, Lucan, Dashwood, Har-
riston, Listowel, Dorchester, Kerwood, Port
Rowan, Atwood, Scarboro, Kincardine to at-
tend this event.
Top winners in the step dance contest
were Tiny Tot - 8 years and under: Trophy
winner, Crystal Brennan, Goderich; 2nd,
Kerrie Szusz, Blyth; 3rd, Rhonda Howatt.
Intermediate nine years to 11 years:

Musical group featured. at United Church

A large number of youngpeople attended
the Blyth United Church service last Sunday
when a musical group, the Oasis, played a
large part in the worship with their five
piece orchestra selections, solos, and
testimonies which demonstrated that to live
"the abundant .life" brings joy, peace of
mind, and a zest for living.
The Blyth stop completed their tour. The
`Oasis' consisted of Cindy Stevenson, Chad
qi,,altfoull, Angela Saunders'of Arnprior,,and
Dave. Bauman and Dave'Sweet of Braeside
near Ottawa.
UCW news
The Onward Unit of Blyth U.C.W. met on
September 6 in the Church .Lounge. Mary
Campbell and Margaret McCullough chose
a Labour Day theme for the Worship ser-
vice, "Working with God". Working in this
way inspires people to use their energies in
the best kind of work possible for their com-
munity's good.
The introduction of the 1984-85 Study on
Korea was presented by. Ferne McDowell.
She gave reasons for the choice, Korea for
Study. One is the exchange taking place this
year between Korea Christians, noted for
their fervor, and church groups from
Canada. Ferne motivated her listeners to
the point that not one wants to miss another
talk on Korea. -
Evelyn Smith conducted the business - the
winding up work for the U.C.W: catering
season and the push to make the annual
bazaar, November 7,.8, 9 and 10 successful.
This year an added feature is the Silent Auc-
tion.. •

The Blyth Women's, Institute met on
September 6 in the Blyth United Church.
A sing song led by Vera Badley with Ruby
Philp at the piano opened the meeting. Ella
Carter and Marion Wright read poems.
• The guest speaker was Eleanor Bradnock
from Auburn. She spoke on the Tweedsmuir
History books. She emphasized that people
need to be reminded how important it is to
' keep records. Everyone should be willing to
help the curator with information.,•
She then showed slides of the A.C.W.W.
convention held in Vancouver in 1983„

• At Spanish they stayed at Rainbow Lodge ,

on the Spanish River.

from a month's motor tour to the west. In
Calgary they attended the marriage of their
son Brian to Carol Foster in Heritage Park

In Dawson Creek they enjoyed a visit with
Muriel's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs: Ivan
Lockhart. The spent time in Vancouver. One
sight in Saskatchewan they will never forget
Muriel said: The drought was so bad in car•

ing in fields close to roads on which they
travelled were. scarcely visible because of
