CLINTON - The final regular meeting of
the 1983/84 Lions Club season was held on
June 12 at the White Carnation in
Holniesville. At this meeting the Lions and
their wives enjoyed a smorgasbord dinner
following which the guest speaker. for the
evening was introduced by Lion Beecher
Menzies.
The guest speaker, Elizabeth A. Willmot,
of Clinton, is an author of three best sell-
ing books, Meet Me at the Station, Places
Along the Railroad, and Where's the Fire.
She is a free lance writer and photographer,
and her articles concerning Ontario history
have appeared in many Canadian
newspapers and magazines.
Miss Willmot has had a life long interest in
railway history and has been photographing
railway stations, train crews and related
subjects since she received her first camera
on her 10th birthday. She showed a slide
presentation which was a tour through On-
tario of many old stations, several of which
have either no use now, or have been turned
into art galleries, restaurants or other uses.
She was thanked and presented with a small
gift of appreciation from the wife of Lion
Eugene McAdam.
The meeting featured the installation of
officers for the Clinton Lions Club for the
year 1984/85, and this was handled by Lion
Stuart Taylor and Lion Dan Steyn. The ex-
ecutive for the new year are as follows:

It was unanimously agreed at this
meeting that the Lions Club with financial
assistance from the Monday night bingo, ,
will finance the construction of a new
wading pool in the park. Work has already
commenced on this project. Many years ago
the original construction of this pool was
paid for by the Clinton Lions Club, and they
are pleased to once again be fully involved
in the new construction.
The club also had a float in both the
Klompen Feest and the Spring Fair
parades, and managed to pick up a third
prize for their effort in the latter. The float
featured the theme 1984 Telethon and the
1984 Tammy for Clinton, Theresa Wammes,
and her mother, rode on thefloat with long
time Lion member Stuart Taylor, and
. several of the Lions' wives, who manned the
telephone while several other Lions gave
away candy and balloons to the children
along the parade route.
Lion Steve Fraser, Easter Seal and
Telethon Chairman, reported that of the
$2,861 pledged from the Clinton area, there
'is only $67 left uncollected, and while this
percentage of 2.34 is below the provincial
average, he appeals to those who have not
sent a cheque to match their pledge to do so.

local Royal Bank branch.
