40 per cent, .accor►to agricultural ex-
perts. This means 2000 fewer acres are in
consumer crop pa engongCani leading white bagrw
area.
As proven before, it's almost impossible
to manoeuvre two vehicles, particularly a
large truck around the corner at Clinton's
main intersection at the same time. Never-
theless, on June 17, Clinton Police had to pry
a commercial van and pick-up apart after
they bath tried to negotiate a right hand turn
from Albert Street onto Huron Street.
The 19 employees of the Clinton Work Cen-
tre of Bell Telephone went on a legal one -
day strike last Friday, and picketed tel e
Clinton workshop on Mary Street. The
workers are part of the Communication
Workers of Canada, a London based local
who are seeking a new contract with Bell.
Without a contract since last November 30,
the workers are seeking a 17 per cent raise,
no more forced overtime, and more
employees for the understaffed Clinton of-
fice which serves a wide area including
Goderich, Clinton and down to South Exeter:

Gordon Duern of Clinton was "watching"
as Peter Graham a cameraman from
CKCO-TV in Kitchener filmed a news seg-
ment on Clinton's restoration project last
Friday. On Tuesday night, Ken Flett and
Rita Ryan of Clinton were gamed to head an
environment committee to steer a rejuvena-
tion project for the whole town.
There were no objections Monday night to
a bid by Vanastra Developments to alter
Vanastra's official plan and convert the
former officer's quarters into four, 24 -unit
apartment buildings.

A full scale searach which about 250
airmen from Station Clinton took part last
Thursday morning and afternoon, resulted
in the discovery of the raped, strangled and
beaten body of' 12 -year-old Lynne Harper,
missing from her home since 7 p.m. on June
9.
. A .14 -year-old juvenile boy from, Adastral
Park, RCAF Station Clinton has been held in
Huron County Jail, Goderich, since his ar-
rest late last Friday night. Wording of the
charge is that "he did murder Lynne Harper
.:.being under the age of 16 years, thereby
being a juvenile delinquent.". '

On Saturday last Mr. Seelay's dog came
home with several porcupine quills in his
coat, proof positive that he had come in
close proximity to one of those prickly little
animals. It was not thought that such an
animal existed in this part of the country,
although they are fairly common in the nor-
thern part of the province. But evidently this
dog came in contact with one, but he 'is
unable to give accurate information as to
the exact location of their haunts. What with
deer feeding with the cattle in the pastures.
and porcupines fighting our dogs we seem to
be returning to the conditions of pioneer
days.
The Clinton hard ball team clash with Mit- -
chell tonight on the home diamond. This is '
the third time these teams have met and so
far Clinton has got the worst of it, losing
both games but better luck tonight.

There is one thing that seems to be grow-
ing among sor4Te boys of this town.
Reference is made of the pernicious habit of
swearing. Has it occurred to those in the
habit of using such vile.language as is heard
that it does not make them any more manly..
The effect is the opposite. It' seems that
wherever there are boys gathered there is
always one or two who seem to think that a
strong oath embellishes any statement they
may make. It -doesn't 'and in the opinion of
the average .man it weakens the argument.
Profanity among men seems to be on the •
decrease or if it is not they may use it, with
discretion. Think the matter over and com-
pare yourself with some boy who does not
swear and take the name of the creator in
vain.

The other day as Mr. John Brownlee, lot
19, mill road, Tuckersmith, was plowing. he
turned up a portion of a sea coral, which was
like a petrified limb of a tree. A small por-
tion of it he left at this office for the in-
spection.of the curious.
On. Thursday -of last week, Just after the
meeting of the Licensed Victuallors, three,,
somewhat weighty members of this✓
Association were passing along Albert
Street, when one of them in a bombastic
manner remarked. "Show me a Scott Act
man and I'll knock him down." A well-
known resident of the town who is small of
stature, having the remark, boldly avowed
his principles with the expression, "Here is
one of you." The L.V., turning to the party,
was astonished at his frankness, and amid
the cutting laughter of his friends, walked
away, remarking, "You are not the man I
was looking for."
