Some of the past members attending were, front row, left to right, Eleanor Bradnock of Auburn, a charter member and the first public relations officer; Doris Batkin of Clinton, the society's second secretary; Ethel Poth of Bayfield, a charter member, membership convenor and archivist for about 20 years; Mrs. Ben Homan, a charter member; and Harry Worsell of Goderich, a past president. They appreciate the support given by everyone who came and to those who helped put on the event. A cake, donated by The Trading Post, was won by Lorne Thompson of RR 1, Brucefield. Larry Rutledge gave the benediction and Don and Jim Lobb collected the offering. Next Sunday, June 10 is Sunday School Anniversary. Claire Davidson of Brucefield will be the guest speaker. Sunday June 24—combined outdoor service and picnic, Hensall Park at 11 a.m. CLINTON NNS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6,1 Tuckerstni h bridge under study for k.adlimits By Wilma Oke TUCKERSMITH - Weight load limits for some of the larger bridges in Tuckersmith Township have been tested and only one is giving cause for immediate concern. Bridge 14 (Strykers) at Sideroad 30-31 Concession 1-2, is showing some deterioration and is to be evaluated by the engineering firm of B.M. Ross and Associates of Goderieh as to what repairs might have to be made on the bridge. This bridge carries a 10 tonne weight load limit on it., Other bridges tested with. no changes necessary : Bridge 3 at lot 1, Concession 10- 11, retains 10 tonne limit; Bridge 6 (Plumbs) between Concession 11 and 12, retains limit of 11 tonnes; Bridge 11 (McLeans) Sideroad 20-21, Concession 3, limit8 tonnes. Road Superintendent Allan Nicholson reported on Bridge 13 (Blewitt) where repairs including raising the abutment and putting on a new deck will be carried out this summer. In Egmondville council decided to continue adding new sidewalks, this summer It will be two blocks, from Victoria Street North, on County Road 12 - Mr. Nicholson said a Ministry of Transportation official said at the present time no money is available for the construction of the new public works shed the township wishes to build, but he was advised to have the plans of the building finalized for the time when the money is. Mr. Nicholson said he and his staff checked the Hensall Road from Hensall to its dump site and found it much improved tirith most of the litter picked up. However them" •-r'ss some in the ditches which they PAGE 11 picked up.' The garbage pick-up man has assured Mr. Nicholson he will attempt to contain the garbage on his truck enroute to the dump site. Council agreed to pay Hensall's request of $2500 for the Tuckersmith residents who use the Hensall Arena and Community Centre. The request from Clinton Public Hospital for a grant was set aside for the next meeting of council. Passed for payment were the following accounts: Day Care at Vanastra, $7,097.17; Special day care at Vanastra, $4,290.69; Vanastra recreation centre, $19,1.33.54; roads, $20,500.74; and administration, $59,039.92 for a total of $110,162.06. Under a Canada make-work grant, three employees will be hired for the recreation centre. Southwestern Youth Talent Search is underway The 1984 Southwestern Ontario Youth Talent Search is looking for performers between the ages of 12 and 21 to compete for cash prizes and a trip to the Youth Talent In- ternational Contest at the Mid -South Fair in Memphis, Tennessee. It is a chance to win up to $7,500 and an audition with CBS Televi- sion. Jamie Warren, winner of the 1982 Southwestern Ontario competition, was se- cond in Memphis. The Dunn Sisters from the 1983 contest placed fourth in Memphis. The contest, a joint venture of the Western Fair Association and CFPL-TV-London, will include five areas of competition.
