Katimavik will
help at Feest
Once again Clinton is home for 11
young people who are visiting from all
parts of Canada and are enrolled in a
special program.
Mario, Simon, Lyne, Rob, Martine,
Tammy, Ivonne, Claudine, Jerry and
Dave are all living at Clinton's
Katimavik headquarters on High
Street. The group, aged 17 to 21, will be
living in their large temporary home
for the next three months while they
plant trees, apply herbicides to weeds
and generally .help out the community
as much as they can. •
They arrived early in April from
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where they
were involved in a number of activities
including dressing as pelicans for the
city's Winterfest. By volunteering for
this celebration the Katimaviks are
more than prepared to assist Clinton
with its Klompen Feest.
The group agree Klompen Feest is a
good way to honor the Dutch contribu-
tion to the locaT community andthey
want to contribute all their time and ef-
fort to produce a successful weekend.
They will take part in the May 19 "
Klompen Feest parade by assembling •
and manning a float for the Clinton
Business Improvement Area. Accor-
ding to group leader, Michelle Leigh, -
the group hasn't decided what will be on
the float but they are all looking for- .
ward to being in the giant parade.
Katimaviks will also work at a
Klompen Feest booth where theywill
sell tickets and souvenirs. Tammy
Backes of Brockville, Ontario, and
Claudine Dion of Kelowna, B.C., are
busy threading needles and .sewing
material for the Dutch outfits which
will be worn by those working at the
booth.
the group' will be their help to prepare
1,500 chickens for the Klompen Feest
barbecue on May 19. They will also be
helping at the annual Klompen Feest
'Wind up' dance also on Saturday, May
19.
Most of the members of Katimavik
are familiar with ethnic celebrations
and to keep in spirit with this time of
year, Rob Roped of Paris, Ontario and
Jerry Van Halan of Bramalea, Ontario,
will be preparing a special Dutch meal
for the groups international meal
night. 'They will be serving sauerkraut,
sausage and Dutch doughnuts, known
as oliebollen.
Everyoneassembled in the small
room of the High Street home agreed
they are looking forward to helping the
town- with their fourth annual Klompen-
Feest
lompenFeest celebration. ,
