history dates back to WWII
Part of the history of Clinton's
Klompen Feest and the close friendship
between Holland and Canada stems
from World War II, starting with five
days in May, 1940.
Without advance warning, before
defences could retaliate, Adolph
Hitler's men descended on Holland. In'
less than a week they turned the
content, rich country into a devestated
wasteland.
It was May 10, 1940 when the Nazi
invaders silently swoopeddown from
the daybreaking skies, landing near
Rotterdam and the Hague..Jin five days
their destructive mission had been
completed. The Dutch army had
surrendered, years of great culture and
architectural richness had been blown
to pieces, peoples' livelihoods, security
and homes had been decimated and the
lives of their friends, neighbors and
relatives brought to an end.
With the takeover began a long
frightening struggle for the people of
Holland, as they lived under Hitler's
'Third Reich rule for the next five years.

around the world through the writings
