Mrs. (Dr.) McDowel, of Listowel,
who has been the guest of her parents,

past month, returned to her home on
Tuesday.
Mrs. Wm. Howey, who has been
seriously ill for the past few weeks is
now on a fair way to recovery, and
her many friends hope to see her soon
restored to health and strength. .
The axtures for the new Sovereign
Bank have arrived and are being plac-
ed in the bank as speedily as possible.
The bank will, in all probability, be
ready for; business on Wednesday,
July 23rd.
Messrs, Handford & Elliott shipped
a car load of very fine horses to Mani-
toba, on Tuesday. Mr. Handford
will remain in Winnipeg for some
days, be having been selected as judge
at the Winnipeg Exhibition.
Miss Gertie Hicks has returned
home from Niagara Falls where she
has spent the pasb few weeks. Miss

Miss Belva Holland has passed with
honors her post -graduate course in
"Massage" in the Philadelphia Hos-
pital, having taken highest marks in
all subjects,
Rev. NC m. Walsh, Mrs. Walsh and
daughter of Brampton, who have been
the guests of Mr. and. Mrs. Jos. Cob-
bledick for the past week, returned to
their home on Wednesday.
The local banks have been notified
that a number of coanterfeit $5 bills
are in circulation. They ate on the
Molsons Bank, and are of the series
check letter B, No. 214,258.
There were over 300 tickets sold at
the Exeter station on July 12th for
Goderich. Much surprise and dissatis-
faction, however, was evidenced. when
the purchaser of tickets was made to
pay $L00 instead of the advertised
price, 80c.
Miss Hooper, who has been the
guest of her cousin, Miss Cora Man-
ning returned to her home in Bow-
manville'on Tuesday, accompanied
by Miss Manning, who will spend a
slaort time with friends in Bowman-
ville and Oshawa.
Though disappointed in his particu-
lar object of taking part in the King's
coronation ceremonies, Je T. Westcott
who arrived home on Sunday speaks
enthusiastically of the good titne he
had and the kindnesses received during
his stay in England.
A very interesting game or base ball
was played in Crediton on Thursday
evening last between our town team
and a team of that village. The score
was 35 to 9 in favor of our boys. A
large number from h ere drove back to
witness the game.
S. A. Stewart, who was called to
New York, owing to the serious ill-
ness ot his brother, returned home on
Saturday. It is expected bus brother
will be able to undertake the journey
from New York to London in a few
days where he will go into the hospital
for care and treatment.
Dr. J'. W. Atkinson, son of Mr. Jas.
Atkinson, Anderson, who has been
house surgeon at the Victoria Hos-
pital, London, for over a year, will
open an office in Mitchell next week.
The doctor, as a studenecarried off the
scholarship for four years in succession
and was gold medallist of the graduat-
ing class of 1901.

The Galt Reporter says: "Dr. Cowen
and Mrs. Cowen have moved to their
new home in London. Dr. Cowen
during his residence in Galt made a
large member of friends and built up
a considerable practice. While wish-
ing him every success in. the Forest
City, one cannot but express regret at
his absence" D. Cowen was a former
well known physician in Exeter.

to make connection by train for
Goderich.
• Mr. E. H. Follick will leave this
(Thursday) evening for an extended
trip through Manitoba, North West
Territories and, British Columbia, for
the benefit of his health. We wish
him a pleasant trip and a safe return.
Mr. Follick has earned a much needed
rest.
Mr. Frank Case, son of Mr. Thos.
Case, London road, north, whe has
been seriously ill with appendicitis,
and who passed through a very criti-
cal operation on Sunday la,st, is at
latest reports doing as well as could be
expected. It, is to be hoped that he
will soon be restored to his usuel
health.
The King has been conveyed from
Buckingham palace to the railway
station and from thence to Ports-
ns.outh, where he was transferred to
the Royal yacht and. after a short
ertuse the yacht was anchered in
°owes Road, Isle of Wight,It was
officially stated that the King was not
fatigued by the jenrney tor ib the
least distressed by the tratsfers, and
expressed himself' pleased at the
change,
Mr. W. J. Ileatnan has a very
attractive end artistic dressed window
of binder twine. The twine is very
neatly arranged so as to represent the
figure of a man sitting down and en-
joying a morning snake. The figure
has on a lohg pair of boots and wears
plug hat. It is a good, drawing card
judging from the number of people
who stop to inspect it and examitie the
quality of the twine. The Window
was dressed by Mr, Geo. Miners.

• SUDDEN DEATEL—On Monday last
Mrs. Stevens, an aged widow of
Exeter North, went to the home of
a neighbor, Dere. Williams, to spend
the ,afternoon. After being seated
but a short time, she was noticed to
act peculiar when Mrs. Williams be-
comingly alarmed, summoned a phy-
sician, who, when he arrived, found
that mrs. Stevens had received a par-
alytic stroke, from which she never
tallied, death ensuing in a few hears.
Deceased. came here - from Drysdale,
some few years ago'and she with her
husband resided. in Exeter North. mr.
Stevens died. only a few years ago and
also very suddenly,
DEA.TEC OE RICE ARM SWEET.-- On
Monday last a telegram was received
by Dr. Sweet announcing the death of
his father, Mr. Richard Sweet, in Nor-
den, Man. Several weeks ago a local
appeared in these columns relating to
an accident be met with, by the frac-
turing of the thigh frern a fall orethe
sidewalk. Word was received from
time to time that the patient, who was
in the hospital in Morden, was doing
as well as could be expected. When
the news of his death was received it
was a surprise to all as no serious re-
sults were feared. Mr. Sweet had
been a resident in Manitoba for sev-
eral years, but previously lived in
Stephen township where he was en-
gaged hi terming. He was about 73
years of age,

Hotel Clarendon was the scene of a
wedding in which Me. John Glen, of
Usborne, and. Miss Wilson of Hay,
were the contraating parties. Rev.
Dr, Gifford performed the ceremony,
while J. T. Emmerton and a young
lady of the house did duty as grooms*

D, B. Kennedy. The groom and Mr.
Kennedy are old friends, their first ac-

Cariboo mining district in British
Columbia. They have met many times
since and there is always a chat over
those early and stirring days when
they dug for gold. Mr. Glenn is now
