Something We're Very

ut work with aluminum
Just as the coming of spring is predic-
table, so is the, frequent repainting of your
home. Aluminum siding can reduce the
time-consuming task of repainting, as well
as save money for years to come.
The main advantages of aluminum are
durability, versatility and quality. Unlike
wood siding, which requires repainting
every two to four yars, the baked -on or
laminated finish of high quality aluminum
siding is warranted to last decades.
Aluminum siding will provide clean, strong
lines -and vibrant colors for many years.
Strong and lightweight
Aluminum, though one of the lightest
structural metals, is alsovery strong.
Because of this, aluminum siding
withstands harsh weather conditions, in -
eluding extreme temperatures and high
winds, without cracking, chipping or peel-
ing.
Easy to care for
Once you have re -sided your home with
aluminum you have minimized expensive
future maintenance. Aluminum doesn't re-
quire scraping, priming or painting. The on-
ly maintenance your siding may'require is
occasional spraying with a hose to remove
accumulated dirt.
Aluminum siding also offers the versatili-
ty of fini bes. It comes in a variety of colors
-to suit any type of ,architecture or personal -
preference. The colors of aluminum siding
vary from pastels and deep reds, to blues,
greens, browns, earth tones and white.
In addition to numerous color choices,
aluminum siding has a wide range of styles
( vertical and horizontal siding, shakes, etc. )
and can be obtained in many different panel
widths and embossed textures, from smooth
to a grained texture that resembles rough -
sawn wood.
To complete the exterior decoration of
your home, aluminum offers a complete line
of accessories such as soffit and fascia, gut-
ters and downspouts, shutters, \coil for
custom window trim, awnings, railing and
even columns.

sweet garden addition
Anyone who grew up with a garden can
probably recall a snowy border of Sweet
Alyssum gracing a path or framing a -plot of
flowers.
This plant's pretty blossoms, delicate
fragrance and easy care have made it a
long-time favorite for borders and edgings.
Eighteenth century gardeners often
included Sweet Alyssum in their gardens,
and seed catalogs published before the turn
of the century offered several varieties for
sale; Gardeners today find Sweet Alyssum
even prettier and more versatile. Once
pigeonholed as a .. border flower, Sweet
Alyssum is gradually seeing wider use in
gardens.
With improved quality, a wider color
range and the imagination of gardeners,
Sweet Alyssum can be found tumbling over
walls, . brightening outside containers,
blooming in hanging baskets and window
boxes, filling in pocketsin rock gardens and
growing as ground cover beneath taller
plants.
For all its versatility, Sweet Alyssum is
still amazingly simple to cultivate. Alyssum.
grows so easily that breeders take its
cultural requirements for granted.
In areas with mild winter temperatures,
Sweet Alyssum grows year-round. In cooler
climates it is grown as a hardy annual and it
blooms from spring right through the first
frost of fall.
'Sweet Alyssum's combination of
hardiness, versatility and beauty have
helped make it a garden favorite. '
Gardeners who have not planted Sweet
Alyssum before will want to try out this
dependable gem. Those who have taken it
for granted as a border flowers may want to
experiment with new uses. In any case, this
traditional favorite cannot be
overemphasized; the pretty blooms and
scent can add a great deal to a garden on
container.
Culture
Sweet Alyssum isn't a fussy flower. In fact
is it easy to germinate, grow and enjoy.,
Soil: Sweet Alyssum does not need
particularly rich soil, but it prefers well -
drained and slightly alkaline soil conditions.
' Light Requirements: Alyssum is
versatile. It prefers full sun but will also
grow well in half-day sun (5 to 6 hours of
direct sun) .
Temperature: Alyssum prefers cooler
conditions.
' Moisture: Flowers do best when kept
moist, but Alyssum can get by with slightly
less water than most garden plants.
Maintenance: If your plants stop
flowering due to extreme summer heat or go
to seed, brush off or snip off the seed pods
and plants will come back to full bloom.
Many gardeners recommend shearing thf
tops of the plants from time to time e(
encourage more flowers and improve the
clump's compactness and appearance.
