Johnstons celebrate 5Oth. anniversary
On March 31 Mr. and Mrs. W. Orland
Johnston held "Open House" at their
Florida residence to celebrate 50 years of
marriage.
The marriage of the former Edith Anne
Thibideau and W. Orland Johnston took
place in Listowel. Officiating clergyman
was the late Rev. A.G. McPherson. Atten-
dants were the late Lorne J. Johnston and
Mrs. R.O. Johnston.
The couple have two sons, Wilmer 0.
Johnston, London and Ronald M. of Van-
couver and three grandchildren, Dr.
Stephen Johnston of Annapolis, N.S., Derek
and Corina Johnston of Vancouver.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnston greeted 150 guests
to their anniversary celebration.
Helen Davies of Clinton had charge of the
guest book, and Norma Quillen of Wisconsin
invited the guests into the dining room. On
the buffet was a beautiful Anniversary
Cake, decorated by Mrs. Johnston, flanked
by gold candles.
Donna Tyndall of Clinton served punch
and Edna Eastman of Dunnville poured tea
and coffee.
Another round table was set up and laden
with a wide choice of tiny quiches, shrimp
pastries, and sandwiches, relishes and an
assortment of cookies and squares.
Serving were Mary Sumner- of Dayton,
Madge Spittles of Hamilton, Mildred Chap-
man of Charleston, W.V. and Julie Renaldo
of Glen Cove, N.Y.
Present were Mr. and Mrs. Ron Johnston
of Vancouver, Rev. H.R. and Anne
Thibideau of Siloam Spring, Arkansas (Mrs.
Johnston's brother), five Clinton and area
couples and Mr. and Mrs. N.A. Todd, friends
of over 40 years who drove from Hamburg,
N.Y. just to celebrate this special day.
Also the Johnstone received many long
distance telephone calls from Canada and
the U.S.
In the evening the Johnstons hosted a din-
ner at St. Lucie Family Restaurant for 35
friends and relatives.
The table was decorated with yellow
candles and flowers, arranged by Rena
Daoust of Mass. Rev. Harry Thibideau ask-
ed the blessing. Charles Clark of Wingham
was the M.C. He recalled manly anecdotes
from 40 years of friendship and toasted the
bride and groom. Ron and Joan Johnston
also proposed a toast to their parents.
After cutting a special 50th Anniversary
Cake, guests returned to the Johnston's
Lake Manor home.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnston are planning a trip
to Scotland, England and Paris later in the
year.
