Young boy receives Bible
LONDESBORO - At the United Church the
Good Friday service was held at 11 a.m.
Ushers were John Cartwright and John
Lawson. The service was conducted by Col-
in Swan and the organist was Lisa Duizer.
A number attended the Easter Sunrise
service at the home of John and Brenda
Radford. Collection was received by John
Radford. Coffee and doughnutswere served
by Brenda Radford.
At the Easter Sunday 11 a.m. service, the
greeters were Dora and Diana Shobbrook.
Ushers were Connie Hoggart, Brenda
Nesbitt,.LarryGross and David Whyte.

The flowers in the sanctuary were placed in •
memory of Nelson and Olive Lear by their
children and grandchildren.
A Bible was presented to Danielle Thomp-
son "for graduating from the Junior con-
gregation. For children's time new life and
new born was discussed. On display was a
two day .old Iamb owned by Carl Merner,
young kittens by Christy and Shannon Scott,
a rabbit by B.J. Scott and a small chicken by
the Knox children. Junior teachers were
June Fothergill, Yvonne and Sherry Hog-
gart.

An Easter Community Service was held in
Hullett Central School on April 22. Lisa
Duizer was the pianist..
Colin Swan welcomed all and led in the
service. Scripture passages were read by
ministersof different churches and J.O.
Cronin.
The offering, to•be given to the Canadian
Bible Society, was received by Mel Knox,
Mery Datema, Carl Nesbitt, Bill Young,
Steve Snarling and Ko Hamming.

The UCW meeting was held April 16 and
there were 35 present. President Brenda
Radford welcomed all.
For devotions Marion Bunking gave a
reading and Gail Lear played the piano.
Lena Nesbitt gave a reading, while the
Scripture and prayer were read by Florence
Cartwright.
Minutes of the last meeting were read by
Bernice Norman. Correspondence included
thanks from Audrey Royal. Trudy Pollard
offered thanks from the Stewards for dona-
tion. Thanks also came from the Snell fami-
ly for Jack and Marion's 40th anniversary.
Members were reminded of Clinton's
Hospital Day on May 12 and the auxiliary
meeting on the first Monday of the month.
The treasurer's report was given by
Margaret Good. An invitation was received
to visit Brucefield U.C.W. on May 8. Rev.
Stan McDonald will be the guest speaker.
Anyone interested is asked to phone Dora
Shobbrook.
Brenda gave a report of work done on
Work Day, March 20. Joan Shepherd and
Joan Howatt assisted at Daffodil tea in Clin-
ton on April 6. Flowers for church in May
will be placed by Helen Lee, Norma
Glousher, June, Joan Whyte and Florence
Cartwright and in the summer months, Pen-
ny Overboe.
The May meeting will be a work night on
May 9 to prepare for the ham and turkey
supper.
Ruth Shobbrook showed slides of their trip
in January to Australia and New Zealand.
There were 31 from Huron and Perth on the
trip.
Lunch was provided by Audrey Thomp-
son, Penny Overboe and Dora Shobbrook.

Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Bill
•Sottiaux on the death of her father, Leo
Sweeney at Chateauguay on Friday.
Dorothy and Nancy went on Thursday. Bill,
Jennifer and Gary went on Saturday. The
funeral was held on April 23. Dorothy re-
mained for a few days with her mother. •
Mrs. Jean Caldwell returned home on
Tuesday after spending winter months with
Wendy and Charlie Crawford and Leanne at
Kelowna, B.C. and the rest of the winter in
Toronto with Nancy and Joe Marano, Can-

Society hosts

after spending some time in Goderich
hospital.

visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Lee.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Norman, Darlene,
Bill and Cherylann of Wingham visited on
Sunday with her mother Mrs. Marion Hunk-
ing and Bernice.
Congratulations to Mrs. Jean Caldwell
and Mrs. Maimie Crawford of Blyth on the
birth of new grandson, Cameron, born April
23. to Charlie and. Wendy Crawford in
Kelown, B.C.
Ken, Betty, Darlene, Denise, Hulley and
Ruth Munnings attended the Snyder Reu-
nion in Toronto on Saturday night.
Principal Mr. Angus McLennan of Hullett
Public School invited the Senior Citizens on
April 16 to see the rehearsal of their spring
concert, the choir, band and operetta put on
by the students.
The Cheerio Club meeting was held at the
home of Vietta Hnggart on April 18. Easter
readings were given by Mary Longman and
Vietta Hoaeart.
The minutes of the last meeting and
treasurer's report were given by Dora Shob-
brook, Roll call was answered by seven
members and two visitors, Hazel Reid and
Audrey Thompson.
Easter readings were given c by Mrs.
Longman and Mrs. Hoggart.
At shuffleboard April 18 winners were:
ladies' high, Audrey Thompson; 2nd high,
Vietta Hoggart; low, ,Margaret Good; 2nd

This Wednesday, April 25 will be the end

Hullett Township council .
Gravel pit application, approved
HULLETT TOWNSHIP - Township
council approved a grant of $1,000 toward
the operation 'of the Clinton Public Hospital
at a special meeting held April 17.
According to township Clerk -Treasurer
Harry Lear, council received a request from
the hospital for a donation after their April 2
meeting.
Clerk Lear said the donation is being
incorporated into the township's 1984
budget.
Pit approved
Council had no objection to a gravel pit
application in the southwest corner of the
township.
Clerk Lear said the application was made
by Hullett Township and the pit will be used
for roads and some construction.
The pit will be developed when the
Ministry of the Environment issues the
• township a license.

Road Superintendent Jim Johnston to order
200 mixed varieties of trees to be planted on
the township roadsides.
The varieties of the trees purchased will
depend on what is available and will be left
up to Mr. Johnston's discretion. Clerk Lear
said that a "leafy variety" of tree would be
purchased.
The trees are to be planted in the spring of
1985. Clerk Lear said the township planted 50
trees on township roadsides last week.

Pins ailable
Last week council received 1,000 Hullett
Township pins and they are now available at
the township office.
Council set a price of $1 each on the pins
that will soon be available in some local
businesses across the township. •
Clerk Lear said the pins will also be
available during Hullett Days in July.
