Ontario Horticultural Society at their an-
nual meeting in the Brussels Presbyterian
Church last Saturday. He was introduced by
Mrs. NorznaHazlitt of the Goderich Garden,
Club.
Mr. McCall paid high tribute to local. Hop,
ticultural Societies for the many flower beds
in the different communities throughout On-
tario. He stated that Ontario flower growers
can compete in the world markets and spoke
of the Rose of Sharon and the lily as
emblems of the Easter season. He closed
with the poem, "The Measure of a Man".
Donald Haines of Auburn thanked Mr: Mc-
Call and presented him with a gift.
The president, Clarence Lange of Chesley,
was in charge of the. meeting and -Mrs.
Florence Schmidt of Hanover .. was
secretary. Mrs. Ivy Gross of Hanover.,
treasurer, gave the financial statement..
The 16 Societies from Hensall to Lion's
Head gave the highlights of their year's
work in beautifying the villages and towns
in District 8.
Mrs. Pauline Richards of Guelph, past
president of Ontario Horticultural Societies,
brought greetings and asked every member
to promote front lawn flower -beds and help
beautify Ontario for this Bicentennial year.
Make it "Ontario In Bloom", she said.
Mrs. Muriel Klie of Hanover, past presi-
dent of O.H.A., presided for the election of
officers. They are: director - Clarence
Lange of Chesley; assistant director -
Donald Haines of Auburn; secretary - Mrs.
Florence Schmidt of R.R. 1 Hanover;
treasurer - Mrs. Ivy Gross of R.R. 3
Hanover; auditors - Mrs. William Bates'and
Mrs. Clarence Sutcliffe; and nominating
committee for 1984 - Roy Bennett of
Wingham and Mrs. Maizie Bray of Lion's
Head.
The memorial service was conducted by
Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock with music supplied
by Mrs. Marjorie McDougall, both of
Auburn.
A panel with moderator, Brian Hall of
C1.1rton, discussed the propogation.of plants.
The panelrstal . were Steven Cook of Clinton
and William Rammeloo of Dashwood
nurseries. "Many questions were o&irected to
the panel who answered most of them from
the proper way to sterilize earth and flower
pots to a way of controlling rabbits from
girdling trees and shrubs during the winter.
They stated that a sure way is to put
creosote on a jute bag and no rabbits will
come near. The control of moles and ant
hills could be done with the use of
chloradane, they said.
The photog_raphie competition was shown
by Len Owens of Hanover. Among the win-
ners were Mrs. Norma Harlin of Benmiller
and Goderich Garden Club and Donald
Haines of Auburn. Prizes were presented to
the winners and draws were held for the
door prizes presented by each society. Mrs.
Anna Taylor of Tara extended courtesies
and the president clpsed the meeting with a
poem, "The Stop That Keeps You Going".
Following the meeting, an Eastern White
Pine tree was planted (by a silver shovel) in
the Brussels Horticulture Park by Director
Clarence Lange, assisted by Donald Haines.
The tree was donated by George Pearson.

Old time music provides toe tapping fun
HURONVIEW - Everyone rallied to the
tunes of old time music, that were played in
the auditorium on Monday.
Wilson McCartney and his group; con-
sisting of piano and fiddles, brought back
happy memories a# bygone days. They
played many of the old favorites that were
so popular when barn dances were all the
go. •
Tuesday afternoon,,Anglican Ooriimuriion
was celebrated in the chapel, with Reverend
Simmons conducting the service and
assisted by Reverend Lyons. Frank Bissett
presided at the organ. Everyone is invited to
attend this service. Special Care folk met in
the activity room for an hour of fun and
games. Elsie Henderson provided piano
music for their pleasure while refreshments
were being served.
Another successful Tupperware
demonstration was held on Wednesday in
the auditorium. Van rides were available to-
day, and several residents went to Goderich
where they shopped at the Mall.
Mid -week Bible Study was held Thursday
afternoon -in the diapeI, condated-by Mrs:
Prouty. A number of hymns were sung with
Elsie Henderson presiding at the organ.
Margaret Farquar read an article from
God's Word for Today. The story given by
Mrs. Prouty was explained on flannelgraph.
We have had delightful weather the past
few days, and some of our residents are
already going out and enjoying the fresh
spring air.
A warm welcome is extended to two new
residents. Mrs. Margaret Moodie of Clinton
is here on vacation care, and Mr. Halvor
Leroy Heggtveit of Vanier, Ontario, has
come to reside at Huronview.
Sunday morning worship was held in the
chapel, _with_Reverend Norman Pilchcon-
ducting the service. A favorite anthem en-
titled, `Be Still My Soul' was sung by the
choir. For the past while, the choir has been
practising music, in preparation for Easter
Sunday.

VON provide quality nursing care
In November, 1983, foot -care clinics were
established by the Victorian order of nurses,
Perth -Huron Branch, at the Wingham and
area seniors day care centre and the Huron -
view day care centre in Clinton.
VON nurse Ruth Hansford from Strat-
ford has received specialized training in the
care of the feet. Huron County VON staff
have received instructions from Mrs.
Hansford as .have some of the Perth County
VON staff. To date, 71 seniors in Wingham
and 55 seniors in Clinton have received foot-
care from the VON.
Last year the VON made 7,753 visits to

member dies
Jack Cree
An employee and member of the Clinton
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 140, Jack
Cree, died in Clinton Public Hospital on
April 14. He was 69 -years old.
Mr. Cree of 14 William Street, Clinton
formerly ran a livery business in town and
served with the Canadian Armed Forces. He
was a member of the Wesley Willis United
Church.
He was born on August 2, 1914 to the late
Robert and Annie Cree:
Funeral services for Mr. Cree were held
at the Beattie Funeral Home in Clinton on
April 16. Rev. James Bechtel officiated and
interment followed at the Clinton Cemetery.
A memorial funeral service was held by the
Royal Canadian Legion on April 15 at the
Clinton Legion.

residents of Huron County and 8,829 visits in
Perth County. The VON is a non-profit
organization managed by a local board of
voluntary community representatives.
Although the branch provides nlrrsing ser-
vice to all age groups, there is a higher
percentage of seniors requiring care. .
As well as "hands-on" nursing service,
the Perth -Huron VON branch provides
assessments for insurance companies, the
Cancer Society, and the Department of
Veteran's affairs.
Money to fund VON services is received
from home care programs ( both acute and
chronic), community and social services,
private contracts, county grants, the United.
Way and fees for services.
The Perth -Huron VON branch provides
services to the entire areas of both Perth
and Huron Counties. The main office is in .
Stratford with two sub -offices: one in in
Listowel and one in Clinton. The Clinton of-
fice can be reached by calling 482-3937 after
3, p.m. Monday to Friday.

CLINTON — The Legion men's executive
had a meeting attended by the Ladies Ex-
ecutive on Monday night.
They had the opportunity of hearing new
information the Men .brought back from
their Zone Convention in Stratford on. Sun-
day. The Ladies Auxiliary will have their
Convention in Seaforth on April 29.
The next General meeting will be held on
April 24. At this meeting members will be
voting in the new Executive, your atten-
dance wouldbe greatly appreciated.
The Bingo winner last -week was Joan
Burley.
On April 28 Clinton will hold the Zone
Track and Field Seminar.
The Spring Early Bird Golf Tournament
will be held May 27 at the Sunset Golf Course
in Goderich. The weekend of May 11, the
Clinton Legion will sponsor the Provincial
Euchre play downs. There will be a dance on
May 11 to the Huron Ramblers. There will
be a requirement for 30 or more members to
help run this event. If you are free hand your
name in at the bar.
The Executive recommended that $250 be
given to the Legion Charitable Foundation,
also $100 to be donated to the District "C"
Vets Hospital Fund, from the Poppy Fund.
It's expected to see all members out on
Tuesday night to vote on the above motions
and to elect the new Executives. Note the
meeting Tuesday night, April 24.

Disher-Dale
Ivan Disher and Joan Dale, both of London,
were married in the Crediton Zion United
Church on March 24. Rev. Brian Elder
officiated. The groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Disher of Dunnville and the bride
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Schroeder of RR 2, Centralia. The bride was
attended by her friend, . Barb Eckert of
Dublin. The best man was the groom's
brother, Kevin Disher of Hattie. Ushers
were the bride's brother, Bruck Dale of RR
2, Centralia and her brother-in-law, Fred
Veenstra of RR 4, Clinton. Following a
wedding reception at the Exeter Legion Hall
and newlyweds honeymooned in Niagara
Falls. They are making their home in

Donald Vanderhaar, and Janet Yvonne
Kaptein, both of RR 2, Bayfield, were
married in the Goderich Christian
Reformed Church by Rev. Harry Vriend on
April 13. The groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Gysbert Vanderhaar of RR 2, Bayfield
and the bride is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Kaptein of RR 2, Bayfield.
Maid of honor was friend, Deb
Mommersteeg of Bayfield. The bride's
sister, Betty Kaptein of Clinton and sister-
in-law, Anita Vanderhaar of RR 2, Bayfield
were bridesmaids. Another friend, Stewart
Turner of RR 2, Bayfield was the best man.
Ushers were the groom's brothers, Doug
and Fred Vanderhaar of RR 2, Bayfield.
Following the wedding, a reception was held
at the White Carnation in Holmesville. The
newlyweds honeymooned in Palmerston
before, taking up residence at RR 2,
