The settlement was reached as a result of
a day long pre-trial held before the
Honourable Mr. Justice R. E. Holland of the
Supreme Court of Ontario. It is based on
discussions between counsel for the parties
and Mr. Justice R. E. Holland concerning
the complex legal issues involved in the ac-

issues through the- appellate court levels
available to the parties, and the des rability
of resolving outstanding differences inbrder
that all parties may get on with the business
of marketing beans.

Residents can
determine future
Local residents will have an opportunity
to voice their opinions regarding the future
management of Naftel's Creek Con-
servation Area at a public meeting on April
25.
The Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority (MVCA), nearing the completion
of the master plan for the property, is look-
ing for input from the people at the meeting,
starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Goderich
Township Community Centre, Holmesville.
Naftel's Creek Conservation Area, located
six kilometers south of : Goderich on
Highway 21, was acquired by the MVCA in
two stages, during 1981 and 1982.
The property represents an extremely
diverse and integrated woodlot, a legacy left
by previous owbers.
As early as'the 1930s, it was realized that
the sandy knolls and poor soil fertility was
best suited for forest management.
Reforestation of the property continued
over several decades by various lan-
downers, resulting in a patchwork quality,
and adding greatly to the area's character
and charm.
The property's extensive variety of
vegetation can accommodate both forest
and wildlife management, while the class
one trout stream and the existing trails con-
tribute to the area's popularity for recrea-
tion and its potential for conservation
education.
Although minor development has taken
place since it was acquired, the master plan
will establish ,goals and objectives for the
area, and outline the long term conceptual
development and management plans. At the
present, forest management, erosion con-
trol, recreation and 'education are con-
sidered as the key management issues.
