Auburn Silver Tops will hold their mon-
thly dinner meeting at 12:15 on February 15
in the Auburn Community Memorial Hall.
All village ladies will bring dessert and the
country ladies will bring salads. Everyone is
invited to join.this group of people 60 or over
and enjoy the picture show, shuffleboard or
cards.
Winners at last week's euchre party were:
novelty - Tina Empey; high lady - Mrs.
Donald Haines: low lady - Mrs Flpaner
Bradnoeka high Man - Clarence Allen and
low man ? Elliott Lapp. There were nine
tables in play•
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lawrence entertained
the family on February 5 to celebrate
Grandma Dickey's 67th birthday. Those
present were Irene Dickey and Crary Collins
of Kincardine, John and Audrey Rutledge
and farnily of R.R. 1 Belgrave, Keith and
Madeleine Kerr and family of Goderich,
Gary and Mary Smith .and Melinda of
Dungannon, Barry and Kathy Austin and
twin boys of Goderieb, James and Debbie

All joined in a big dinner to celebrate this
occasion.
Congratulations to Colin Fingland of
Wingham, a former Auburn district
resident, who celebrated his 3rd birthday
on February 1. His friends wish him many
more birthdays.
Mr. and Mrs Clare Rodger, Kathy,
Richard and Darren of Goderich visited last
Sunday with Mr. Rodger's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Emerson Rodger.
Congregation should work together
Annual Meeting
Knox United Church • of Auburn held its
annual meeting last Sunday after the
morning church service. The United Church
Women provided and served a lunch to the
congregation.
The annual meeting was opened with
prayer by the minister, Gary Shuttleworth.
He was appointed chairman on motion by
Glen Webster and Mrs. Barry Millian.
Maurice. Bean. was mid .Se.Cretary on
motion of Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer and Mrs.
Marjorie McDougall The agenda for the
meeting as printed was accepted on motion
of Mrs. Oliver Anderson and Mrs.. Elliott
Lapp.
Maurice Bean read the minutes of last
year and these were adopted on motion of
Mr. Bean and Mrs. Glen Webster.
Mr. Shuttleworth read the names of those
who, had passed away during the year and
offered a prayer. They were Myrtle Munro,
Dorothy ' Elliott, Torrance William Tabb,
Ethel Mary Cunningham and Robert Borden
Turner.
The nominating committee, composed of
Mrs. Ethel Ball, Mrs. Oliver Anderson and
Mrs. Ernest Durnin, presented the slate of
officers which were accepted as read:
Elders to retire in 1989 - Lawrence Plaetzer
and Tom Cunningham; stewards to retire in -
1987 - Orval McPhee, Allan Webster and
Peter Verbeek; church treasurer - Mrs.
Marjorie McDougall, assistant - Mrs.
Gordon Gross; church secretary - Maurice
Bean; Missionary and Services - Mrs.
Donald Haines and Mrs. Oliver Anderson;
Flower Fund - Mrs. Tom Jardin; captain of
ushers - Peter Verbeek, assistant - Murray
Rollinson; Manse committee - Mr. and Mrs.
Ross Dobie to retire in 1985 and Mr. and
Mrs. Maurice Bean to retire in 1986;
nominating committee - Mrs. Oliver
Anderson, Mrs. Ernest Durnin and Mrs.

The Reverend Gordon G. Pickell an-
nounced that the Reverend Sohn Roberts
would like someone from the London Con-
ference committee to present Ventures in
Missions to the congregation.. Mr. Pickell
will make this arrangement along with Mr.
Shuttleworth.
The charge account report was accepted
on motion of Glen Webster and Teade
Bakker.The Missionary and Services report
was accepted on motion of Mrs. Oliver
Anderson and Ernest Durnin.
It was recommended to the Official Board
of the Charge that Auburn will accept $3,500
for its objective for Missions.
Mr. Shuttleworth spoke about the
foreword he . had printed on the annual
report. He referred to the congregation as a
team - a team that is winning a game should
never consider it won until it is all over. He
asked the members to continue to work
together as a team, using the gifts that God
has given to each.
Mr. Shuttleworth is away part of the week
UCW meet to quilt
UCW
Twenty-five United Church Women met in
Knox United Church at 10 a.m. for a quilting
bee last week. Three .quilts were set up
ready when the members arrived. Lunch
was served at noon with Unit One supplying
the beverage,.
The worship service began at 1:30 p.m.
- with Miss Betty Marsh in the chair. She
opened the meeting with a suitable reading.

bronze plate of the praying• hands was on the
table.
The hymn, "In Christ There is no East or
West' ' was sung' With Mrs.` Marjorie
McDougall as pianist.
Mrs. Ernest Durnin read the scripture
lesson on; the Parable of the Good
Samaritan.
Miss Marsh then spoke on the different
kinds of hands in the world. Mrs. Tina
Empey led in prayer.
The offering was received and Miss Marsh
gave the offertory blessing. The hymn,
"Take my Life Ind Let it Be", was sung.
Mrs. Allan Webster, acting as a
missionary from N'ew Guinea, then came to
call. She had a suitcase carrying the most
used things there. Interesting vignettes
about the life, of the country were handed out
and read.. Mrs. Webster summed up the
missionary work there. She said it is not just
Bible teaching; there is agriculture, the
medical field, teachers, hygiene, etc.
Miss Marsh closed the worship. service
with a poem, "God Let Me Be Aware".

help with the work and also the Reverend
Gordon Pickell, supervising minister of
Goderich offered to help the congregation in
any emergency that might arise.
The meeting adjourned with prayer.

LONDESBORO - At the Londesboro
United Church Sunday service the greeters
were Bert Lyon andGordon Shobbrook. The
ushers were Nancy Penfound, Janet Wilts,
Bryan- Howatt and Michael Radford. Gail
Lear was the organist and her husband
Harry was the soloist.
Colin Swan conducted the service. He
reminded confirmation students that a class
will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night, at
the manse.
The junior Sunday School teachers were
Cheryl Lyon and Diana Shobbrook. The
Messengers also met with leaders Jane and
Connie Hoggart.
There was a good representation at the
congregational meeting, held in the after-
noon.
Rev. W. Moore attended to represent the
Presbytery and A. Mechim from the London
Conference was also present.
A pastoral relations committee was ap- .
- pointed to engage a new minister for the
church:Committee-members-include•Ehair--
man Bert Lyon, Garnet Wright, Gordon
Shobbrook, Penny Overboe, Bob Trick, -Nick
Whyte and .Ron Nesbitt. Alternatives are
Brenda Radford, John Jewitt, Elgin Pen-
found and Edythe Beacom.

Conference meeting at Chatham on April2
and 3.
It was suggested thatlayettes be made for
the Ministry of Family Services or Unwed
Mothers''Home.
The kitchen committeeis to purchase a
new 100 -cup coffee percolator and the
members decided to purchase 25. new
stacking chairs and try to. repair some of
those which have been broken.
Family Night will'b.e held on February 17,
weather permitting. •
It was announced that March 22 is.to be
the World Day of Prayer at Knox United
Church. •
Mrs. Donald Haines 'closed the business
with a New Year prayer and a motto, "Put
our Faith in Action". A delicious lunch was
served by Unit I and then the ladies returned
to their needlework.

Card party
The WI sponsored a card party on Feb. 3
and there were seven tables in play.
Winners' were: ladies' high, ' Dorothy
Daer; lone hands, Vietta Hoggart; ladies'
low, Beth Knox; men's high, Watson Reid;
lone hands, Ted Mills; men's low, Ed
Brooks.
WI members Beryl Reid and Dora Shob-
brook hosted the party. The next evening of
cards will be held on Feb. 17.

contest to start their program on Feb. 13.
To be eligible, participants must attend
for six consecutive weeks and the members
