Speey Gesture had 25 starts in 1983 with
two wins, three seconds and five thirds,
good for $27,715 and a new 2.03.2 record. 2. -
Miss Janes Rip, owned by Harry Kerr of
Goderich, won her first of the year in 2.10.4
at Western Fair Raceway in London on
January 18 with Ross Battin up.
John Lester finished third with Goshen
Girl, co -owned by Ken Parke of.Varna.
Wayne Dupee of Clinton was second with
his Miss Krista Hai at London on Friday
night.
Randy- McLean also- had. a- second- nlace-
fi.nish with makike Tide for Kevin Camp-
bell of Goderich in the second, while Ross.
Battin was second with Fly Fly Henrietta
for owner James O'Neil of Goderich in a
2.09.2 mile in the sixth.
Randy McLean had another successful
year in 1983 with Blackbridge Jake for
Glenn Mitchell of Ailsa Craig.
From 31 starts the then four-year-old
Renees Boy pacer had a (4-4-6) Standing

record.
In two years at the races Blackbridge

Great Lakes Western Skating Festival in
London; In the Free Skate Competition

non Preszcator and Jacquie Draper.
.Jacquie placed third in the Free Skate
Flight which made her eligible for the final ••
figures competition in which she placed
fourth overall. •

'Jody Merner and partner Devin Horton, of
Goderich were in the Dance Competition.
The Clinton Figure Skating Club's Annual
Club Competition will beheld on Sunday,
January 29; at the arena. at 1 p.m. Everyone
welcome! Silver collection at the door. .
Gold medalist skater
SEAFORTH - Lloyd Eisler, 20, of Hamilton
and formerly of Seaforth and his partner
Kathy Matousek, 19, are two of the best
figure skaters in Canada.
They -proved -'it on Jan: -15by'winning the
gold medal in senior pairs skating com-
petition In Regina. The. win will allow the
couple to compete in the upcoming Winter
Olympics in Yugoslavia.
Born and. raised' in in Seaforth, Lloyd
began his skating career in Goderich at the
age of seven. His aim was just to learn
skating but in three years time Lloyd had
gone. onto the Preston Figure Skating Club
under the guidance of instructor Bruce
Brady. • •-
Lloyd began winning national com-
petitions with partner Laurie Baier of
Mitchell, including golds in national novice
and junior pairs Two years ago Laurie
decided to give up skating and Lloyd began
working with his'current partner.
During the weeks that led up to national
competition, Lloyd and Kathy skated five to
six hours per day, In -addition, Lloyd spends
four to five hours a day with second year
studies at McMaster University in
Lloyd hopes to skate at the amateur level
until 1988. He noted, "Then I'll probably'
retire. But hopefully we'll be in the running
for a medal at the Olympics in Calgary."
Next week Lloyd and Kathy hope to place
in the top eight or nine at the world level. In
their routine, Lloyd explained, "We skate to
themusic of Superman and try to bring
across the concept of Superman and Lois
Lane."
The Canadian champion advises young
figure skaters to enjoy skating, "If they
hope to make it in figure skating, they have
to have talent and enjoy it. Once they have
both, they'll Leake it. It also takes a lot of
hard work and dedication."
