CLINTON - The CHSS music club is back,
fresh from Christmas tours, concert and
holiday. They report a very successful
Christmas season with a well-received con-
cert.
Now, the students are preparing to start
their next project and are planning their
first( annual Music-a-thon on Jan. -21. The
choir, band, girls' chorus, and possibly the
ensemble choir all will be participating.
Everyone will take turns singing and play-
ing from nine in the morning'until five in the
afternoon.
Thereare approximately 80 students par-
ticipating in this event and sponsors are
needed. The money they hope to raise is for
a very good cause. The club desperately
needs to pay off some bills for new in-
struments and get some old ones repaired.
These new instruments have been of great
use to the growing school band. The Centen-
nial Band has been a tremendous help in
assisting to offset this cost but there are still

For 10 years now the Kinsmen of Clinton
have been holding an annual Beef Barbecile.
Over the last few years attendance has been
slipping, so this year they asked Wayne
Hodges, a member of the Clinton Kinsmen,
to aid them in their search to produce a
popular -social -gathering. __ _.. _. _... _ __ T .
Wayne and his wife have been travelling
throughout Ontario and Detroit to attend
certain dances with a special theme. The
'50s -'60s idea for dances is bect:ming more
and more popular and the Ilodges have been
taking advantage of the "fabulous '50s" con-
cept for four years.'
Using his obvious love of `bee bop' andthe
psychedelic, Wayne is incorporating his
ideas with the beef barbecue and coming up
with what he hopes w_ll be Southwestern On-
tario's biggest '50s dance.
"Fonthill holds an annual '50s -'60s dance
and they claim it is the biggest in Canada,"
Wayne said. "I am just taking this idea and
using it for our barbecue to make it the big-
gest in Southwestern Ontario." •
"I thought that if these communities can
do 4,89 can we."'•
. Apparently Fonthill had combined a -car `
-
show with the day's celebrations, but only
five or six cars participated .in the event.
Wayne said that.at this point he has 50 to 60
cars enrolled in Clinton's car show to be held
with the barbecue and he's expecting many
more.

abot.t the taw. This program should help so
that students and police officers can work'
together."
Similar programs have met with success
in past years in such towns as Strathroy.
The Exeter students' council hope that
enough interest will be generated to run
their program on a monthly basis.

debts to pay.
Another hoPeful cause for 'some. of the
money railed is to buy new uniforms forthe
choir. The group - also has been rapidly ex-
panding throughout the past four years and
need matching uniforms for competitions
and festivals. New uniforms can be passed
on from year to year and last a very long
time. The old vests lasted three years and
have now been passed on to the band.
Another big event the students are very
excited about is coming up on Feb. 24. This
is the first Music Festival and will feature
choirs from Mitchell, Goderich, Listowel,
Clinton and Wingham high schools. Each
choir will perform separately at a concert at
night as well asa performance by all the
choirs in a mass number.
-The CHSS musicians -and singers are
practicing hard and they hope everyone will
come and see this unique performance at
Central Huron Secondary School on Feb. 24.
ee barbecue
't'nrougnout me clay, prizes will be award-
ed for various events, "We will be giving
away a total of $1,500 in prizes.",
Wayne recently received four tickets to
Canada's Wonderland valued at $65 and he
noted that in collecting sponsors, "I have to
admit. I've .put a lot of work into this
„already."
When the Kin member and his wife attend
the various '50s dances splattered
throughout the province, they don all the
essentials. Ninety per cent of the clothing
worn is original '50s regalia.
Wayne says he likes the past decades
because of the style of music. "I have just
taken the '50s' (music, clothing and cars)
theme and added the '60s popularity," he
said.
This is the first time Wayne has organized
an event like this. The last time the Kinsmen
in Clinton held a similar barbecue with a
'50s theme was two years ago and Wayne
and his wife had a hand in helping then, but
Wayne was not a member of the Kinsmen at
that time.
The barbecue will start early in the after-
noon and end at 1 a:m: and the car show will
be held at 2 p.m. "Hopefully we will have a
good response to that event,". said Wayne.
"-I'm hoping that if I get people out for the
car show they will stay for the danced"
The meal will be at 5:30 p.m., "before -the
meal is over we will have a contest or two
and try to get people up and dancing."
The band Jerry Arpa and the Flashbacks
from Toronto, will perform. During band •
breaks contests will be held.
Prizes•for the day include: A meal for two
at the Blue Fountain Restaurant, bobby
socks and a gift certificate from Lee's of.
Clinton.. ome- Hardware. and -Les Ciseaux- '
will also be giving away gift certificates. - •
"It will be kind of funny if the winner ' of
the longest pony tail contest wins a gift cer- _.
tificate from Les Ciseaux, and I'im sure the
MC will make some kind of joke about that,"
laughed Wayne.
The Old Mill will also be donating a prize •
as will a liquor company from London.
"The liquor company will be donating
what they call 'a patio set; a tray, four
tumblers and a pitcher. They -will be giving
away 24 of them." said Wayne.
Wayne said, "The main reason I'm trying.
to generate prizes is to create incentive for
people to come."
Tickets are $10 each or $20 a couple. If
there are any questions just contact Wayne
Hodges at 482-7042, Carter's Westend at 482- .
9363 or any kinsmen or kinette.
"I want people to realize that this is just a
nightout to have fun," said Wayne.
