Phyllis was presented with her life
membership pin and thanked all members
for their co-operation during her term of of-

The incoming President, Helen Aiken took
over the chair and conducted the -new

UCW meeting on Jan. 10, Rev. James
Bechtel held a service to install the new
officers for 1984 and 1985.

The program committee held the worship
service and prayer was given by Mrs.
Tebbutt. The scripture was read by. Mrs.
Pearce and Mrs. Grigg read a poem.
The new president, Isabel Harris chaired
the business meeting. Reports were given -
by the 1983 convenors and budgets and
projects for the coming year were
presented.
Members were reminded that Holmesville
United Church will be holding their annual
meeting on Jan. 29 after the church service.
Following the meeting lunch was served
by social committee members Marg Yeo,
Grace Walter, Kaye Harris, Lorene Young
and Letitia Riddell.
Accident leaves youth
with major injuries
GODERICH TOWNSHIP - A snowmobile .:
accident in Goderich Township last week
left a Holmesville youth in London hospital
with major. injuries.
The Goderich OPP reported that Roger
Striker, 18, of Holtnesville was injured when
. he was riding on a 1973 Rupp snowmobile
driven by Randy Lobb, 18, of Clinton.
The two were travelling southbound along
Concession Road, 15 and 16 of Goderich
Township when Striker caught his leg on a
tree limb at theroad's edge.
The limb was lodged . in the victim's leg
and he was rushed to Clinton Public
Hospital for treatment. Later he was
transferred to hospital in London.
New committee
assess eligibility
Seven individuals will serve 'on the newly -
constituted Beginning Farmer Assistance
Program Review Committee, an appeal
body established to settle disputes about
eligibility for this program, Agriculture and
Food Minister Dennis Timbrell announced
recently
"This committee is to act as arbitrator for
anyone who feels he or she has been treated
unfairly. by the approval process for the -
beginning farmer assistance program,"
Timbrell said.
Chairman of the committee, who will
serve a term of three years, is.John Sikma,
an apple, farmer from Newcastle and
former president of the Christian Farmers'
Federation.
Kate Quarrie, an investment iaanager
with the Royal Bank who also runs a 100 -sow
operation near Guelph, will serve for two
years as vice-chairman.
Other members serving two-year terms
will be Carl Spencer, a cow -calf operator
from Tara and first president of the Fartri
Survival Association, and Don Belluz, a
cash crop farmer from Thunder Bayand
past president of the Ontario Junior
'Farmers' Association.
Shirley McComb from Castleton, John
Kirby from Chute-A-Blondeau, both dairy
farmers, and cash crop farmer Jake
Dirlcsen from Kingsville will be members of
the review committee for one-year terms.
"The Beginning Farmer .Assistance Pro-
gram is intended to bring a new group of
qualified and aggressive producers intotthe
province's agricultural industry," the
minister said, "It will provide $135 millionln
interest rate rebates over the next five
years and will help about 1,000 people each
year get down to the business of farming."
