Plain, simple love has kept Mr. and Mrs. Bert Beacome happily married for 60 years.
The Clinton couple celebrated their anniversary wAth a special open house at Huronview
attended by more than 80 friends and relatives on Jan. 8. Now residing at 51 Winter

Family honor couple

Sapphire and white colored streamers
decorated the., Auburn and Communinty,
Memorial Hall last Sunday when Mr. and
Mrs. Bert Daer of Blyth were honored by
family members on the occasion of their
45th wedding anniversary.
Dinner was served to over 40 members of
the ' immediate family by Mrs. Shirley
Andrews at noon. An anniversary cake
centred the table.
An open„ house was held at 2 p.m. and
despite the snowy weather, about 85 guests •
were welcomed by members' of the family
with the grandchildrenin charge of the
guest book. Among these guests were Mrs.
Daer's sister, Mrs. Jack Pipe and her
husband of Brussels and sister-in-law, Mrs.
Florence Daer of Goderich. Andrew Kirk-
connell of Brussels was unable to be present.
Many_pictures of the family in by -gone
days, as well as gifts aii�c .cards, were
viewed by the guests. Afternoon tea, cookies
and anniversary. ,cake were served by the
couple's granddaughters.
Mr. and Mrs. Daer were married in the
Knox United, Church manse in Auburn on.
January 10, 1939 by the late Reverend Hugh
C. Wilson. They were, attended by ' Mrs.
Elizabeth Kirkconnell, sister-in-law and
Jack Turberville, uncle of the groom.
Mrs. Daer was the former Dorothy
Vodden of Londesboro, daughter of Charles
and Janet Vodden and Bert is the son of
Samuel and Mary Daer.
Following their marriage, they resided in
Auburn until they moved to the farm on the
Auburn -Blyth road 30 years ago. They
retired to Blyth in 1974 where they are
members of the Blyth United Church and.
the Blyth,Euchre Club. Mrs. Daer is also an
active member of the UCW Quilting Group.
Mr. and Mrs\ Daer have a family of four
sons and two daughters. They are: Mrs.
Peter (Isabel) Campbeli•of Wingharn; Ross
of R.R. 1 Auburn; Edward of New
Kenneth Clinton; . Lorne of New Ham-
burg; and M Fred (Laura) Lawrence of
Auburn. They also have 20 grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.
Congratulations and good wishes are
extended to. Mr., and Mrs. Daer on their
happy occasion.
Obituaries
Funeral services were held last Thursday
for Mrs. Guy Cunningham at the Tasker
Funeral Home in Blyth with Mr. Gary
Shuttleworth officiating. •
Mrs. Cunningham, the former Margaret
Ellen Adams, died at the Maitland Manor
Nursing Horne in Goderich on Tuesday,
January 3 in her 88th year.
She resided in Hullett Township for many
years and then retired to Auburn. Twelve
years ago she went to Maitland Manor.
She is survived by two sons, Walter of
Emo, Ontario and Thomas of Bullet
Township (warden of Huron County); two
daughters, Mrs.. Carmen (Christena) Gross
and Mrs. Lloyd (Eileen) McClinchey, both
of. Hullett Township; 16 grandchildren and
one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband and
one grandson.
Spring interment will be in Hope Chapel
Cemetery.
Funeral services were held. at the Tasker
Funeral Home in Blyth last Saturday for '
Sidney Arnold' McClinchey of Hullett
Township who died in. Clinton Public.
Hospital. in his 81st year. Mr. Gary Shut-
tleworth officiated.
--The-late Mr. McClinchey was'a meniber-of
Knox United Church in Auburn.
He is survived by his wife, the former
Elva May Walden;• three sons, Harold,
Garth and Lloyd, all of Hullett Township;
three daughters, Mrs. John (Rena)
Forrester of Lucknow, Mrs. Paul (Gladys)
Hutchins) of Goderich and Ruth of Maitland
Manor in Goderich; one . brother, Gordon
McClinchey of Blyth; one sister, .Mrs. Iona
Jefferson of Clinton; 17 grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren.

The children's sleigh -ride behind a team
of horses, sponsored by the Auburn and
District Lions Club, had to be postponed last
Sunday afternoon due to the stormy
weather.
John K. Young of Mitchell and his son,
Robert. J. Young of Stratford, visited last
Thursday with Mrs. Tom Johnston and Miss
Laura Phillips.
Mrs ;,Frank Raithby is a patient in, Clinton
Public Hospital where she underwent
surgery last Friday morning.
• Mrs. Jessie Naylor visited for a few days
last week with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arthur.
Winners at the weekly 'euchre party held
Tuesday evening in the community hall last
week were: novelty -Mrs. Jim . Glousher;
high lady -Mrs. Edgar Daer; low lady -Mrs.
Dave Scott; high man -Gordon Gross; and
Wow man -Donald Haines. •
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jardin and Greg of
Kitchener visited last Saturday with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin and
grandmother, Mrs. Elva Straughan.
The sympathy of the community is ex-
tended to Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bean on the
death of her mother, Mrs. Gertrude
Cockerline of Blyth. .

In Blyth Industrial Hockey League action
Jap. 8, Watsons downed Radfords 11 - 8.
John Watson led Watsons with four goals,
Steve Nixon and Jeff Watson each added.

In the last game Blyth Inn tied Hubbards 4
- 4., Dale Whitfield and Paul Cook each
scored twice for Blyth Inn. Hubbards'
scorers were Brian Bromley with two and
Brent Andrews and Barry Bromley.

LONDESBORO - At the United Church
Epiphany Sunday service the greeter was
Harry Snell. Ushers were John Cartwright,
Russell Nesbitt, David Whyte and Garry
Wilts: -The service was conlliict y-C',oliw
Swan and organist was Lisa Duizer. .
Flowers in the sanctuary were placed in
memory of Gerben Wynja who died on Jan.
4. They were placed by his daughter Reind
Wilts and family.
Sympathy was extended to Bruce Shilling
on the death of his father on Jan. 7.
This coming week Sunday School will be
cancelled. Rev. Ross Cumming, chairman
of ,the Huron -Perth Presbytery, will lead in
e the sacrament. Following the service a pot
luck meal will be served at 12:30 p.m. and
the annual • congregational meeting will be
held at 1:30 p.m,A film for the children will
be held during the meeting at Hullett Cen-
tral School. Allare encouraged to' attend
this:annual meeting.

Jan. 4 winners were: ladies' high, Audrey
Thompson; low, Dora Shobbrook; men's

Gerrit Wilts on the death of her father Ger-
bin Wynsa of RR2 Hensall at the, Exeter
hospital on Jan. 4. He was 67 years old.

Wm. Shillinglaw of Baldwin, age 70, on Jan.

Mrs. Reg Lawson had surgery on Jan. 4 at
Victoria Hospital, London. Friends wish her

Humane Society held a board meeting on
..January 4, in Goderich.
Mary Mayman of Bayfield was the winner
of the Commodore Vic -20 computer when
the draw was made by Huron County Dairy
Princess Muriel Huth at the Suncoast Mall:
Bernie. Webb of the Ontario Humane
Society was in the Huron area to discuss the
purchase of land for the future shelter.
Plans were made fqr the annual meeting
to be held February nit the O.M.A.F. office
(agriculture office) in Clinton. The guest
speaker will be John Orr of the Huron
County. Health Unit with a talk on rabies.
The meeting will begin at 8 p.m.
