A young man from the Seaforth area was
awarded Huron County's top 4-H prize at the
annual awards night held Nov. 2f in Clinton.
David Townsend of RRL Seaforth was the
recipient of the Murray Cardiff Citizenship
trophy presented each year to the 4-H
member who has been outstanding, not only
in 4-H, but in home and community ac-
tivities.
David is currently a second year student
at the University of Guelph. For the past
year he has been president of the Kippfield
4-H calf club.
The Seaforth area man has been involved
in 4-H for eight years, completing two pro-
jects in calf, rabbit, snowmobile, sheep, vet
and junior leader programs. He has been a
delegate to the 4-H regional conference and
the 4-H provincial leadership camp.
Elizabeth Stewart of RR1 Dublin, a
member of the Clinforth 4-H calf club was
awarded the C. S. McNaughton trophy. This
trophy is presented to the 4-H member
receiving the highest number of points in the
past year.
Elizabeth received several other awards.
She received the Huron County Holstein
club award again for total points and
another award from the same group for top-
ping the Huron County 4-H senior dairy
management club. The Ken Jackson award
was also won by Elizabeth for highest score
in the 4-H dairy silver dollar competition.
The Warden's novice award, given to the
novice 4-H member obtaining the highest
number of points, was presented to Steven
Coultes of RR.5 Brussels. He is a member of
the Blyth-Belgrave 4-H beef calf club.
Meribeth Scott of RRI Belgrave was
presented with the J. A. Anstett award for
receiving the highest standing of 4-H beef
calf club members. She is a member of the
Blyth-Belgrave 4-H beef calf club.
Gary Godkin of RR1 Walton, a member of
the Central Huron 4-H swine club, was the
winner of the Huron .County Pork Pro-
ducers' Association trophy for receiving the
highest points of 4=H swine club members.
He also received the Huron County Soil and
Crop Improvement Association award as
top member of a Huron County 4-H field
crop club. He is also a member of the Cen-
tral Huron 4-H crops club.
The Bruce McCall trophy, presented to
the member exhibiting the champion 4-H
market pig, was awarded to Gary Godkin.
Donna Johnston of RR2 Bluevale, a
member of the Brussels 4-H dairy calf club,
was awarded the Canadian Imperial Bank
of Commerce award for obtaining the
highest standing in 4-H dairy calf club work.
Donna also received the Old Mill award as
top member of the Huron County 4-11 sheep
club who had not previously received the
award.
Kate Boon of RR2 Bluevale won the top
sheep club award. She received the Doug
Kennedy award.
The John Franken memorial trophy for
the highest score in a horse and pony club
was awarded to Shona Rae of RRI Clifford,
a member of the Howberry 4-H horse club.
The Farm Safety Association trophy was
presented to William Fotheringham of RR4
Seaforth, a member of the Huron County
Farm Safety Club who received top points.
The Neil McGavin award for the member
with the highest score in the plowmen's club
was presented to Lynne Dodds of RR1
Seaforth who is a member of the Huron 4-11
sodbusters club.
The top rabbit club member was David
Pullen of Clinton, a member of the Brussels'
4-11 rabbit club. He received the Central
Huron 4-H rabbit club trophy.
Greg Hoggarth of RR2 Kippen had the
highest commercial poultry project and
highest overall poultry project score in a
Huron Poultry club. He received two poultry
club leaders' awards.
Another major award winner was Lisa
Thompson of RR5 Wingham. She received a
Stan Jackson award for topping the 4-H beef
championship show at the Seaforth fair. She
also won one of the Stewart Proctor awards
for exhibiting the top heifer at the Seaforth
fair.
Lisa received the Glen White Industries
trophy for having the highest score in the 4-
H beef silver dollar competition and the
United Co-operatives of Ontario trophy for
having top score in the judging competition.
Anne Procter of RR5 Brussels, a member
of the Blyth-Belgrave 4-H beef calf club also
won a number of awards. She received. the
Murray Elston award as champion 4-H beef
showman and the Toronto -Dominion Bank
award for all-round 4-H livestock showman.
Anne won a Stewart Procter award for ex-
hibiting top steer.
Clubs meet at park
and learn campfire skills

BELGRAVE - The Huron Trappers
Association held a meeting on Nov. 25 in the
Women's Institute Hall. A film was shown
on Wildlife . Draws were made for small
prizes.
Campfire skills
Nineteen Cubs were invested at the East
Wawanosh Public School by their leaders
William McKeon and Mrs. Jack Marks.
On Nov. 12 they all met at the Maitland
Valley Conservation in East Wawanosh
Park, where they were taught campfire
skills and enjoyed a weiner roast.

Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Makas of London
visited on the weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
Kenneth Wheeler.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse visited
with their cousin the Rev. John Murdock of
White Rock B.C. at the home of their aunt
Mrs. Frank Edgar of Wingham.
The Brownies held a very successful bake
sale on Saturday in the Sunday school room
of Knox United Church. They appreciated
the support shown by the community.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bray of Durham
visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Hanna.
Dinner guests on Nov. 19 with Mrs. Cecil
Coulter were Mr. Allan Armes, Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Armes of Seaforth, Barbara
Coultes of Toronto and Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Vincent.

Eleven tables were in play at the weekly
euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall on

WI hear from genealogist

WALTON - Mrs. Donald Lobb of Clinton
was guest speaker at the Walton Women's
Institute meeting on Nov. 16.
Curator Mrs. Nelson Reid introduced Mrs.
Lobb who is a member of the Huron
Genealogical Society. She spoke on ways of
tracing the family tree. Miss Glenda and
Susan Carter and Pam Nolan entertained
with piano solos.
Further plans were made for the concert
on Dec. 16 in the hall. Each member is
responsible for a number. There will be a
Christmas meeting beginning with a supper
at 6:30 p.m. and a gift exchange
A donation of $25.00 was voted towards the
Day Care Centre for the Homebound •
School bus trip
On Nov. 25 the Grade 2 and 3 children of
Walton Public School along with teachers,
Mrs. Joan Vandendool and Miss Mary Ellen
Walsh travelled by bus to the Lambton
Heritage Museum, Grand Bend and par-
ticipated in a workshop entitled "A
Christmas Long Ago".
The trip was to serve as an introduction to
their Christmas units. The workshop looped'
at the way in which Christmas was
celebrated in years past.

Paul's United Church, Milverton conducted
the worship service Sunday morning at
Duff's United Church. Rev. Charles A. Swan
was at the Milverton charge, where he
shared his World Council experience.

Sholdice who are both attending Mohawk
College, Hamilton spent the weekend at
their homes here.

were recent weekend guests at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Allan McColl.

Earl Pennington of Goderich spent the
weekend with his grandparents, Mr. and

Nov. 20, Blyth Inn dumped Watsons 12 - 6.
Steve Howson and Dale Whitfield each
scored three times for the winners. Brian
Westbury and Steve Robinson each added
two and Paul Cook and Bill Roy added
singles. Watson scorers were Terry Pierce
with three, Jeff Watson tallied two and
Steve Nixon.
In the second game, Baintons downed
Radfords 9.6. Don Shiell led Baintons with
three goals and Larry Robinson, Mike
Malliot and Barney Stewart each added two.
Radford scorers were Ron Honking with
two, Derwin Carter, Jim Kellar, Ken Rit-
chie and Dana Bean.
In the last game, Hubbards hung on to
edge Mannings 8 - 7, as Mannings scored
three tunes in the last two minutes to tighten
up the game. Brad Bromley and Brian
Bromley each tallied three times for Hub-
bards and Brent Andrews and Larry Howatt
added singles. Wayne McDougall scored
five goals for Mannings and singles went to
Dick Chalmers and Gary Courtney.

In Blyth Industrial Hockey League action
Nov. 13, Baintons downed Mannings 7 - 4.
Baintons scored three goals in the last five
minutes of the game to win. Mike Malliot led
Baintons with three goals and singles went
to Darren Richmond, Doug Shiell, Kevin
Tasker and Don Shiell. Manning scorers
were Kevin Carter with two, Gary Courtney
and Glen Ferguson.
In the second game Hubbards remained
undefeated with a 7 - 6 come from behind
victory over Blyth Inn. Larry Howatt, with
his second of the night scored with a minute
left in the game to clinch the win. Other
scorers for Hubbards were Brian Bromley,
Bruce Howson, Brad Bromley, Barry
Bromley and Wayne McDowell. Paul Cook
tallied three for Blyth Inn, Steve Bromley
scored twice and Steve Howson closed out
the scoring.
In the last game, Radfords trounced Wat-
sons 11 - 5. Radfords built a 9 - 3 lead after
two frames and coasted to the win. Radford
scorers were Ron Hunking with three, Dana
Bean, Bill McDougall and Doug McClin-
chey, each with two and Jim Kellar and
John Feeney. Watsons' goals were split
between John Watson, Cam Cook, Steve
Nixon, Darryl Youngblut and Steve Tyndall.
